1. Fox, Horse or Owl... I think I sound most like a Horse. :)
2. Well said Mutts4Me, you summed up what I was thinking. :)
3. Agree with Malamum- BK would have SO much fun scratching it up and ripping the fabric; either that or he'd hate it and refuse to go anywhere near it.  Though it does look really cool and I love the Kelpie sitting on it (as if any farmer would buy that sort of bed for a working dog LOL). 8)
4. How awful for you Daisysmom- I'm glad the dogs are ok. BK doesn't wear a collar except when we go out. He is chipped and registered though. My biggest fear is he'll get out, go on the road and get run over, and a collar won't save him anyway. :( But hey he's made it this far without getting flattened and he's been an escape artist since we got him 8 years ago, so I figure no collar at home is fine. :) Marble- microchipping isn't expensive, at least not here. BK got his first chip included when we got him (he was about US$40 from the pound). I got it updated in 2002 and it cost AUD20/US$15. I'd have got it done even if it were costly though, the peace of mind is worth more for me.
5. There's a method of positive reinforcement (you may have heard of it) called Nothing In Life Is Free (NILIF). It's a good training tool which reinforces you and your family (ie people) as alpha, and Blitz (ie dog) as beta- *below* you guys. If he wants praise and treats he has to *earn* them. Sounds like he is one smart cookie who has learned that he can get away with things. Did I mention my dog is also called Blitz and he sounds a lot like your dog?! :P :) Look at http://www.k9force.net/nilif.html for more info on NILIF.

7. That's so cool! I want a digital camera now :D
8. Re the Labradoodle puppies- I have heard of this particular kennel before (if it's the one I think the show is talking about). they are based in NSW and the "breeder" is, from memory, a vet. :x UGH is all I have to say about that.
9. ROFL @ HF     Kiwi- I know a leetle bit of German but probably not enough to be a full-on translator. K may be able to help, German is a little bit like Dutch I think?
10. BK only ever started burying his bones when he started hanging out with Lizie... he never, ever did when Rinny was alive... weird :-? maybe we can start a "weird dogs" forum? (oh wait, we already have  )
11. so sorry to hear such bad news. Sending lots of positive thoughts to you and Brax. Keeps us updated on his progress!
12. Oh wow!!! She is so so so so cute and fluffy.... *drools*
13. I found an article about the most popular dogs in NSW (where Malamum and Aroura hail from), but am yet to find most popular dog breeds for the whole country: Urban terrierists take over By Claire O'Rourke, Urban Affairs Reporter November 8, 2003 They are very white, very fluffy, and incredibly popular. The small, smart and feisty Maltese has eclipsed the much-loved Labrador to become the state's favourite dog breed. According to figures compiled by the Department of Local Government, the Maltese has clinched the title of the top pure-breed dog, with 34,633 registered in NSW. Christina Rafton, the president of the Royal NSW Canine Council, said the Maltese found favour in Sydney as high-density living became the norm. "Backyards aren't backyards any more . . . they are probably easier to fit in with your lifestyle," she said. The Labrador is still often found on the North Shore, in the eastern suburbs and in Sutherland, topping the registration list in 13 of 42 municipalities. The Maltese is most popular in 16 council areas stretching from the city to south-western Sydney. Meanwhile, the Staffordshire bull terrier is most popular in Pittwater and South Sydney, while Jack Russell terriers rank highest in Leichhardt and Randwick. The imposing German shepherd is best loved by residents of Camden, Fairfield, Bankstown, Liverpool, Penrith, Strathfield and Baulkham Hills. Clothing designer Roslyn Bellerby, 28, grew up with a Pomeranian, but has put off owning her own dog until she moved into her home in Alexandria with her husband, Terry. Maltese were preferred because of the breed's friendly and approachable nature. "We got one and thought you just can't have one - they get lonely," she said. Ruby is eight months and Ralph almost four months, and both compact pooches have been on holidays with the couple. "They have been on a plane twice - we just take them everywhere," she said. "When [Ruby] was smaller you could get away with going to the supermarket with the dog in your bag and everyone would think she was so cute." Other popular NSW pure-breeds are the border collie, Australian cattle dog, Rottweiler, smooth fox terrier and golden retriever. Least popular is the obscure Lundehund, a Norwegian native that has extra toes and a double-jointed neck. Only one is registered in the state. It must be noted that a pure-breed may be in the eye of the dog-lover. A spokeswoman for the Local Government Minister, Tony Kelly, said the figures are drawn from declarations made by dog owners when they register their pets. Since 1999, dogs - and cats - must be registered and microchipped under the Companion Animals Act. The department also found that of the 742,605 dogs registered, 522,509 were pure-breeds, more than twice the number of cross-breeds (220,096) - figures that surprised the canine council's Ms Rafton. "I would have thought it was 50-50. But it doesn't matter whether it's a cross-breed or a pure-breed, a dog can be a wonderful companion." 14. So glad he is getting stronger every day!! :D
15. Oh hell yeah it is a problem here. As Malamum said it's relative to population size. Puppies are sold at flea markets, pet shops, puppy farms/commercial breeders (eg. ACA Breeders, who our favourite gardener allegedly co-owns)... plus all the BYBs...have a look in the trading post (www.tradingpost.com.au) and see how many hundreds of ads there are for purebred puppies, "no papers", or the various poo crosses which are SO fashionable right now and selling for hundred$... for chrissake we had puppies almost as a dinner item not too long ago, and only much public outrage caused Victoria to ban the consumption of cats and dogs. Anyone who says puppymillers aren't a "problem" in Australia needs their head read. :x
16. Happy Birthday to everyone!! :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday:
17. LMAO living with Annie must be a laugh a minute... she cracks me up!
18. signed
19. Wow, what a difference you've made to him... he looks so much healthier, and of course he's still handsome. :D
20.
At least dogs don't respond with, "Why? You can't tell me what to do," like some teenagers do.
I dunno Mei, if BK could talk that's what he'd say sometimes.
21. DP- Would a pedal bin work? ie. a large one? Or is that what you already have and is not working? :D
22. I suppose by now this is old news and I apologise if it's already been posted: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/12/24/1071941765380.html One of the Queen's corgis has been killed by an English bull terrier owned by Princess Anne. The Queen was said to be "absolutely devastated" over the death of Pharos after he was savaged by Dottie, according to The Sun newspaper. Just last year Princess Anne was fined after Dottie attacked two children in Windsor Great Park. Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the alleged incident, which was said to have happened on Tuesday (AEST) as the royal family gathered for Christmas at Sandringham in Norfolk. Anne arrived with Dottie and as the door was opened by a servant the Queen's corgi raced down to greet her, the newspaper reported. The bull terrier then attacked Pharos, injuring the corgi's legs. He was treated by royal vets and kept in intensive care but had to be put down. The Sun quoted a royal insider as saying: "His death has left her deeply saddened. Everyone knows what the corgis mean to her. They are loyal, faithful and cherished. "The incident has certainly put a damper on the Christmas holiday. It's terrible and everyone at Sandringham is very upset." This is a link to the attack on the kids earlier: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2497531.stm It is a tricky one for me personally to decide what should have been done in *both* cases. Any dog that shows human aggression really needs to be dealt with appropriately; granted it wasn't a maiming but still the dog attacked *people* which is absolutely not cool, and now it has savaged another dog so badly it needed to be pts. :( I really wonder about a few things- was the dog actually dealt with re: its human aggression, did the Princess receive preferential treatment despite her protestations (imagine if it were your bull terrier that attacked two children, or mauled another dog to death?), if it were a different breed of dog (eg. a stereotypically "friendly" dog like a Lab) would it have made international headlines, I wonder if there is something neurologically wrong with the dog or it just hadn't been trained correctly.... what do you guys think? If it were my dog I would have done some drastic retraining after the first incident (assuming that my dog hadn't been destroyed already). After the second incident I think I would have my dog destroyed voluntarily, if not forced to by the law. Attacking children is bad enough but killing another dog... how could I ever trust it again? :( Disclaimer: I adore bull terriers, lived next door to one when I was younger, and think they are fantastic. :D
23. I agree with you Mutts and well written (though it doesn't apply to only Snow, there are more than a few people out there who have wrongly assumed we approve of dog fighting, whether it be because of our members or our ads :-? ). However, people only see what they choose to see and no amount of postulating is going to change that. :)

Dog poem

     Now that I have a cat (found under the house, a true nobody) it makes that poem even sadder.
25. rofl. Wonder if we will see CSL (cake-specific legislation) being brought in... my waistline would appreciate it...
