I have a blue heeler X border collie/other stuff. He's the best dog I've ever had. :) With toilet training- what we did with the dachshunds was take them to "go" often (after a nap, after meals, and in between) on some newspaper we had ready. Every time they used the paper they were effusively praised, until they got the idea the paper was for pooing on and we could take it outside, and they would go outside instead. I don't think we had many accidents at all. It just takes patience and persistence and consistency. Don't give up, you'll get there and everyone here is good at giving advice. :)

Rhodesian Ridgeback Weimaraner (yay!!!) Dalmatian (yay again!) Boxer Gotta say that Weims and Dals are two of my favourite breeds. :D
A purchased puppy has a better chance of finding willing and able owners. Lack of knowledge is the number one cause for abandoned pets. This happens often when you pick up a puppy at a shelter without knowing anything about what you might be getting. It also frequently occurs when breeders only emphasize the positive traits of their breeds and keep silent regarding the less than desirable traits. Keeping all this in mind, most people do at least trouble themselves to find out all they can about a breed before spending money.
Shelter dogs are also "purchased" pets. I don't know of any shelter that gives dogs away. I don't know anyone who goes to shelters just to see what's going, and maybe buy a dog if they feel like it. Most people go there to purchase, would I be correct? And many "breeders" who can't sell their pups and have no contingency plan in place, dump them at the shelter. The only reason I can think of if there wouldn't be in a given day as many purebreds at shelters as mutts is because there are numerous breed rescue programs operating- even so, they have a limit on how many they can rescue. The very fact that breed-specific rescues exist demonstrates how many purebred (or "purchased") dogs are unwanted. I really think HF hit it on the head- the amount of cash one spends on the purchase of a pet in no way correlates with the care it receives from then on. I could get a dog for free or I could spend hundreds on one- it wouldn't change how I treated it. Dogs don't attach monetary value to themselves, but people do it all the time, not only with pets but with everything else they "own". Honestly, I think dogs are more evolved than the human race sometimes.

doglover (not our normal, civilised, educated Dog Lover I see  )- please take a moment from posting trollish drivel on random forums and THINK about it for a moment. Read the facts posted everywhere from here to Timbuktu. Visit shelters and see how many dogs get euthanased every year because people bang two dogs together to make money, then when they don't- funny how I don't want to buy someone's ill-bred examples of purebred dogs or even worse, faux purebred such as Spoodles, Maskitas, Maltipoos etc- any of these "breeds" can be found at your local pound- dump them at the nearest shelter. That's if these ignorant, greedy fools don't try to drown them in the creek in a plastic bag first. So go and bitch about that. :evilbat: Oh and did I mention this is a DOG forum?? Fancy animal welfare cropping up on an animal forum. I'm flabbergasted.

Doesn't watch tv but the kittens (and Lily used to) love footy!! Weirdos! 5. The wine bar where he gets fed lamb shanks from the chef and walked by the Mafia.

I hope they get shut down! Disgusting, cruel, greedy human beings do this everywhere and hopefully this will be a victory for the animals for once. Well done :) -
Deez- sorry, I just edited out the rude language and racial slurs. didn't touch it otherwise. :)

There doesn't seem to be an email address on the site so unfortunately I can't send a complaint. As bad as the people who *let* their dogs breed/be bred to hers, she is definitely worse. It's just absolute negligence.

Ohhh I'm so sorry. :( :( Run free at the Bridge Penut...

Hey Luka- glad you're back :) We have boarded BK at a good kennel with no problems. The first time he was away from us he came back a little strange (ie he wasn't spoiled rotten  ), but since then he's adjusted and loves going to visit the other dogs. The kennel has a geriatric facility where Rinny was looked after when he was alive, and the people who run it are lovely and know what they're doing.

What dog related items do you keep in your car?
bk_blue replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Everything about dogs
Plastic bags for poo scooping and/or holding water Water Bottle for water- if I forget to take water at least I can fill up the bottle when I get there Towels (in case BK goes for a swim or gets muddy) Sometimes food if we go and practice obedience He wears his collar and lead in the car so that's one less thing to worry about  -
I think Blitzkrieg is fairly unique- just as well because the world wouldn't cope with more of him :P One of grandpa's old Dachshunds was called Peebles (Peebo for short). Their Pekingeses were called Chan and Fooey. I guess they would be unusual? I also know a girl I went to school with who had a cat she called Sh*tty Kitty. Thought of naming my new boy Titty Kitty because of where he likes to sit  but didn't think it would go down too well with the parents

Australian Cattle Dog x Smooth Border Collie (some of the pros are cons and vice versa, depending on what you like!) Pros- smart, tough, hard-working, easily trained, eager to please, playful, energetic, agile, low-maintenance, great watchdog, gentle with children, likes water, independent, loves other dogs, loves people Cons- gets destructive when bored, bored easily, dominant, can be biters/nippers, sheds little but constantly, stubborn, single-minded, can be demanding, can be aloof at times, said to be a one-person dog, boisterous, needs a LOT of exercise, not good with cats, certainly not for a first-time owner.

There is no way that dog is a *insert breed here*

When you turned up at the door nine months ago, I knew you were a fighter. I knew you were a survivor. You'd gone through so much already in your three months of being outside and fending for yourself. You showed yourself to be a beautiful silver haired, green eyed tabby whose tiny frame belied an iron will to get your own way. You were the only kitten I've ever had and the only one I ever got so attached to I couldn't imagine what would happen if you weren't around. You were doted on and spoilt rotten. You had us wrapped around your little claw, and you loved it. Nothing but the best for our little petal. The real little lady of the house with your playfulness and affection. From you I learned a lot about cats. I never imagined I would have a cat as a pet, now I can't imagine life without a playful, sly little beast. You taught me that I can sacrifice a little discomfort (sharing the bed) for the joy of knowing you chos my bed to sleep on that night. Or getting up in the middle of the night because you wanted to play games. Why? Because I loved you. Well, I still do, wherever you are. When you didn't answer my frantic calling last night, I knew in my gut that something horrible had happened. I can't explain it, but I just knew you weren't going to be ok. Despite this I tried my best to search for you in the cool dark night. Nothing really prepared me, though I knew it was the inevitable consequence, for the shock of finding you today. I only hope that you knew nothing of what happened to you and you are running free at the Bridge. You and your antics changed our views about cats and I know you will understand if we soon get another little kitten (actually I can imagine you being slightly miffed- "why am I not the centre of attention anymore?"). Poor Brodie is lost without you, and Lizie doesn't know what to do either. When that car hit you it hit four people's hearts as well. We have to pick up our pieces and put them together again. You were so young, and it was so unfair, but you died the way you lived, a free spirit. I love you Lily.
