ROFL  BK used to do that with sticks if nobody wanted to play fetch with him. He'd get right into it, too.

Atom- if I were you I would be doing a lot more research on the Doberman(n). Especially known diseases/defects pertaining to the breed, such as von Willebrand's. I think if you are serious about buying a puppy from a good breeder you would go out of your way to find one. It should never be too much trouble to find a decent puppy. This potential puppy (who, as hillside said, is going to be trouble purely because that's what puppies are, in the nicest possible way) is going to be your companion for the next 8-12 years, not a toy you can chuck out if it gets broken. :-?

Dumb questions about your dog from the general public
bk_blue replied to Queen Bitch's topic in Everything about dogs
I used to tell people that Rinny (who was a GSD X but looked like a purebred Shepherd in his younger days) was half dingo and see them run a mile away from him  People think BK is a Dalmatian... people say to their kids and vice versa, "look at the spotty dog, he's a Dalmatian like in the movies isn't he" never mind that his back is almost solid black... and people still say "aww what a cute puppy"- he is almost nine years old!!!! So I tell them how old he is and people don't believe me. Whatever. -
BK is a quiet cleaner so it doesn't really bother me. He grooms his front paws the most, in fact that's about all he does.

Bk is quite good most of the time, he will just lie down and drool all over my feet. However it depends on the person. One time a few friends and my sister and I were having a post-party KFC lunch. I gave him a chip and he took it and spat it out. My sister gave him a chip and he ate it. Someone else gave him a chip and he ate it. I tried to give him another chip and he spat it out again. :x he knows he can get better out of me- I'm a sucker so I gave him a chicken nugget and he ate it

BK used to be an indoor dog (who slept outside at night), then when we moved house 6 yrs ago he became an outside dog to be let in occasionally. He does prefer to be outside rather than inside. We let him in and he goes around and says hi to everyone, then lies down in his spot next to The Boss (dad)- usually he'll just go outside again voluntarily after about fifteen minutes, but sometimes he does just like to curl up in the one spot for a couple of hours.

I have dissected rats at high school, and also an ox heart, but back then (grades 7 and 8) we were fairly immature and didn't really think much about stuff other than it was fun to squirt intestinal contents at each other and play mini tennis with the heart.   To be honest I can barely remember what the whole point of dissection was, so it wasn't worth it for me, but others in my class who've gone on in the science world may disagree. For my sister's uni course she has to dissect snails, cockroaches and earthworms. She is fine with that. I don't know... somehow mammals seem a little different than cutting up a snail. Do they feel pain? Can we really judge that? We know animals like cats and dogs do... how about worms?? Is it ethical to dissect *any* animal? I suppose that if a computer can do it then we should do dissection virtually. How effective it is versus actually physically touching your object of dissection, I wouldn't know. Certainly one should have the choice.
my sister does she says they are devil worshipers
I don't know about this, but their disgusting cruelty to animals is enough to make me boycott P&G.

That's fwarked... I wonder what would happen if someone took a stereotypical Lab or Golden Retriever camping and it turned out to be the nastiest dog ever? Would they ban them as well?? Where is it going to stop?? :x

With my dog (male neutered ACD X)- he does this as a dominance thing. He will do it to my grandpa's smaller dachshund or my sister's border collie as a sign that he is the boss. He only does it when they're playing together, and he's very gentle when he does it, because it wouldn't take much effort for him to hurt them if he so chose. So perhaps that's it. She may be just reaffirming her status as alpha (top dog). :)

Fingers crossed for you Zoe, I hope it's just a little bug and Ellie is back to normal soon. :fadein:

Ugh it's a toughie... :) I think my hope that the dog overpopulation problem is fixed is a pipe dream. I seriously don't think it will happen in my lifetime. Until it is fixed, then I can't see the point of producing crossbred dogs just for the hell of it. I can see the point with purebred dogs because there's always going to be a demand for them. I just wish that most (not ALL) people would stop producing dogs, full stop. Both mongrels and purebreds. There are too many bad examples of both types not only suffering in shelters and bad homes but giving their breed a bad reputation. (APBT anyone?) I think everyone has made excellent points so far. :)

KP- how sad that you actually have to resort to sticking notes on your door to keep people away. Why can't people just get the message... piss off... :)

There are probably several good pointers on how to write contracts and questionnaires at either breed-specific sites (eg. Golden Retriever Club of America, or wherever), or a breeder's site eg. http://www.ida-red.com/puppy_buyer_questionnaire.htm is just one I got from Googling "dog buyer questionnaire". There are also some very good breeders who use this site who may be of assistance to you. Have you not ever had a questionnaire or contract for your previous litters?

Congratulations Courtnek- I bet Laurel thanks you every day for going through so much with her and being so patient and caring.
