Thinking about getting a second dog...
bk_blue replied to SizzleDog's topic in Everything about dogs
WTF is with the first page of the thread? Have there been messages deleted or something, because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Otherwise I must be wearing my bimbo hat today. :P Frankly, whatever goes on over at PF CAN STAY THERE. NOT HERE. Get it??? -
Ooooooh he is a cutie... me likey :D

I agree with K to an extent on the locking threads business. If a member or guest is in breach of the user agreement, degenerating into personal attacks, or going completely off topic (usually this coincides with the name calling :agrue: ), then it is time to consider thread locking. I locked a thread recently that courtnek requested to be locked. I didn't really do it because she asked me to; rather, I looked at the situation and made a decision based on the content of the thread (a basic rehashing of the "what the hell" thread). However I try to take members' considerations into account when I moderate (I think I'm more impartial now than I was, say, 12-18 mths ago ;)). Speakign as a non-mod for a sec, I don't like the restriction on personal opinion (agree with what you wrote Kendalyn- "if you don't like the content don't read it!" but keeping the peace, while sounding like a cop-out, is probably a better option than not. That's my take on it anyway, for what it's worth. :)

I don't know... I think before you socialise the puppy she or he has to be immunised (is it 16 weeks or something before puppy is fine to go out?), but I think you should be ok with Alfie if he is up to date with all his shots. I think it's just the risk of getting the puppy exposed to unimmunised dogs...? I am really not sure if that's right though, perhaps someone else could help? Maybe it also depends on whether you are pro or anti vaccination...? sorry I can't be more helpful!!

Webby sounds really smart :) you must have put in some work to train him to do all that, BK wouldn't do any of that in a pink fit, he'd think it was beneath his dignity   though I did teach him a few things. One was roll over, which was easy from a down/drop position and he loved doing it because he got a tummy rub for his troubles (he's not at all motivated by food). Does Webby know wait? or drop? they are very handy ones to know believe me! I don't know how to get them to speak... Shara will probably know, she taught Hazel heaps of tricks. :)

welcome back snowpaws!!!! nice to see you :D

I agree Courtnek, this has been thrashed out time and time again... whatever your opinion is, good or bad, that is fine, but I think this one should just be put away... anyone who wants an explanation should PM the relevant people. clink

thanks K  you got the power! :evilbat:

Oh-so courageous Chris. You are in breach of the User Agreement found on the site. You will be banned if you continue your childish behaviour.

http://news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,9527410%255E421,00.html Soldiers fined over kitten cruelty By Lloyd Jones May 11, 2004 SIX Australian soldiers have been fined $2000 each after pleading guilty to cruelly treating kittens, one of which was dragged behind a motorcycle and three others set alight. The soldiers from Townsville's Lavarack Barracks appeared in the Townsville Magistrate's Court yesterday on one count each of cruelty. Ben Charles David Lightbody, 21, Brett Michael Henry Neville, 26, Casey Mitchell Parker, 21, Geoffrey Martin Symonds, 20, Darryl Stephen Llewellin, 26, and Christopher James Murray, 19, were each fined but had no conviction recorded against them. Lightbody and Neville also were disqualified from driving for six months. Police said the incident occurred at the barracks on Easter Saturday involving a litter of four kittens from a stray cat. This is just revolting. The maximum penalty (according to the RSPCA) for animal cruelty is $75,000- but how often does that get imposed? Several angry newspaper readers wrote into the paper today and they all brought up the link between animal abuse and later violence towards humans... at the very least these people should be thrown out of the army and forced to undergo some sort of psychological rehab, plus be prevented from ever owning an animal again. The RSPCA refused to take them on at their QLD shelter for their community work because it would upset the workers there. Good on them, I certainly wouldn't want let alone trust these people to take care of animals. Instances such as this make me really ashamed of my country.

Pictures of Boomer and I since the awfull tragedy.
bk_blue replied to Holz_Boomer's topic in Everything about dogs
I can see them... fab photos. Your hair colour is great!!! And Boomer of course is very handsome. -
I don't at the moment but my dog and my two kittens came from the shelter. I tried volunteering at the shelter but it was too upsetting, so I just donate food, blankets etc. I would really like to operate a tiny rescue but as I still live at home it's not viable. Hopefully one day in the future when I have my own place and some money I can do something, though the way I'm going it won't be until I'm an old-age pensioner!

Congratulations HF, I hope that we can see some pictures soon (hint hint). :D

I can't think of many instances. There are two that I can recall. One was with BK, because he has a blue merle pattern on his face, chest and belly, people think he's a Dalmatian. Even though his whole back is JET BLACK. The number of people who go, "oooh look at the pretty Dalmatian!" or "there's one of those spotty dogs" is funny. The other was with Rinny (GSD X)- in his younger days he looked just like a full-blooded Shepherd, but a little smaller- one day someone said he was a dingo (he didn't look anything like one!) and refused to believe otherwise- so it stuck, and we started telling everyone he was a dingo just to take the piss.

I've just had to make the biggest decision of my life =..(
bk_blue replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
OMG Jeanne    I don't know what to say, I'm so sorry that you feel the end is here for Lily after all you have done for her. I don't have any advice either but you can pm or call me if it helps. *hugs* -
Agree with Akber, age isn't just a physical thing, there are a lot of mature and intelligent teenagers, just as there are stupid, ignorant adults in all areas of life. :) RNP I am glad that this mess apparently seems to have been resolved. That is all. 8)

I would consult a vet if possible. None of us here are experts and we don't purport to be. I hope it's nothing serious.
-
It all sounds pretty sus. Hopefully RNP will come and explain what is going on, if it is true. Not that he has to but I'd like to think he WOULD. Watch this space :-?

I am so glad India came back! I've had that feeling with BK a few times (the former Houdini of dogdom in his younger hellraising days) and it's not pleasant. When Lily went missing a couple of months ago I think the sleepless, cold, awful night I spent searching for her was worse than actually finding her cold the next day. I still really miss her even though we have 2 lovely inside kittens now.
-
I'm so sorry Kat, I hope you can get full ownership of Meg. When will people realise pets aren't commodities??

No bones about it, you're a go-ahead-and-spoil-me Poodle. Intelligent and discerning, why should you settle for anything but the best? No good reason comes to mind. You appreciate the finer things in life, from the trendiest clothes to the best restaurants. Maintaining your health and appearance is a must
