1. I am fairly sure Australia and NZ don't need to vaccinate dogs against rabies. Stupid bloody red tape!! What a pain. :x
2. I'm really sorry to hear about you and Sassy. I don't have any advice to offer but hope you can work through this.
3. Courtnek, I think it was Carol who used peppermint essence (now it wasn't the oil, but an essence or something like it that you buy from the supermarket) to help Jesse to cope with thunderstorms. Is that what you were thinking of or something else?
4. I have an embarrassing confession to make. I think Frankie Muniz is cute. Only reason I'm embarrassed is because he's way younger than me and I don't even think he's legal yet.  BTW I really like the show and it's great to see Pits get some good publicity for a change.
5. LOL HF *sticks hand up* Good luck, I am sure she'll fit right in. :D
6. Lizie met BK on Sunday night. Ahhh love at first sight (though that probably makes BK a sugar daddy LOL)! At first she was a little scared of him, big boisterous boofhead that he is, but she perked up and began to play. He knew that she was much smaller and lighter than he was, and injured (the burn mark and her spay stitches are still in), and he was quite gentle. He even let her chew on his bone (isn't he nice), though when he tried to get it from her she growled at him. So he got another piece of bone and chewed it in front of her so she'd go over to that one, and he got his other bone back from her that way. Sneaky little devil. They played for about an hour or so and BK got tired and wouldn't play with her anymore, so she tried to get him to play with her by barking at him, nipping his heels, nipping his neck etc. Dad has some photos and I'm waiting for him to send them to me, as soon as he does I'll post them. She followed him all around the backyard and when they were drinking out of the water bowl they looked like father and daughter, same little tails, same markings... both as smart as hell which is good or bad depending what way you look at it! Looking forward to them hanging out lots in the summer. :D Meeting Lily (the cat) was another story. I honestly thought Lily would take one look at Lizie and run away but no... Lizie was scared of Lily!! Lily puffed herself up and hissed at Lizie, and poor Lizie stayed as far away from her as she could. Lily followed Lizie around the house and would just perch not too far away from where Lizie was and would just STARE at her. At the dinner table Lizie sat at my feet and Lily was on one of the chairs, and would get off the chair perodically and check to see if Lizie was still there and scared of her, then get back on her perch. When Lizie went home, Lily followed her out of the house, down the garden and to the car just to make sure she was going. :D
7. Oooooh I am sooo excited!!!! My sister got a puppy for her 21st (which isn't till december). Four month old Border Collie/Retriever X. She volunteers at the RSPCA 2 days a week and is on the long road to being a vet- she checked out the puppies today and there were three. All from the same litter, except the other two were chocolatey browny black. Lizzie (her new puppy) looks like a purebred BC, can't see much retriever in her at all. Soooo wish I had a digicam!!! Anyway the puppies were surrendered because the former owners couldn't find homes for them (surprise surprise). The puppies were also in a house fire not long ago and all three of them have scars.  Lizzie has a scar on her rump near her tail which is almost healed (there is a little scabby bit, and very sparse hair, which I suppose will grow back?). She has the cutest ears, and has little black spots on her muzzle, very BC. She chases the tennis ball and on most occasions brings it back to you, drops it. She's really quite outgoing, was a little timid at first but when I saw her she was really happy and playful. I am soooo looking forward to teaching her tricks soon!! BK will just LOVE her.   Anyway just thought I would share this fabulous news!!! :D
8. Can't believe I didn't watch this. Finally TT has put out something worth watching and I miss it!!! :( Anyway I voted no and sent off a very positive thanks to TT for showing it, even though I missed it. Mel- do you think the fact Burke is with rival channel 9 had anything to do with running the report? Just my cynicism kicking in.
9. Yeah sorry Pumpkin, nobody's been banned, the forum is technically $%#ed and we are all hassling the owners to do something about it but no response yet.
10. ROFL Blue heeler response: YOU want the lightbulb changed, YOU do it.
11. LMAO she does look very *cough* regal. Great pic!
12.     #$@@******@^^#(^^$%@#!!!!!!!!!!!
13. Congrats on yet another addition to the family :) Devin is back where he will be treated well by EVERYONE and that's the main thing.
14. Good luck Starfox!!! You must be a wreck at the moment (I would be!). I hope it all goes well.
15. Big Congrats Nea!! :bday:
16. I'm sorry that I can't offer any advice either but whatever decision you make we are all here for you!!
17. Black GSD- I believe the oldest-lived dog (or at least one of the oldest) was a blue heeler who died at the age of 27. :o My friend Devon had a cat, Purdie, who died at 23. I think she was just a moggie who got very lucky genes. :) Same with Rinny- our mostly GSD X who died earlier this year aged 16. I am dreading the time when BK will pass on, I think he's got about 5 years or so left, considering he's 8 already (though he doesn't act like it).
18. So right Gooey- Tomson (grandad's dachshund) is a tough little bugger who really doesn't like being mollycoddled. If he was given a choice between sitting in someone's lap being cuddled or running around playing tug he'd choose tug. Of course you worry a little about them but they are quite tough little dogs- as long as they aren't allowed to get fat and spoilt they should be fine, like most dogs. :)
19. Poor thing. Makes me sooooo mad that $*@#s like these can do this to an innocent creature. At least he has some happiness now. HE DESERVES IT!
20.  oh yeah I can see the pitbull... not  Bet Kiwi will LOVE it. :D
21. Welcome back :D sounds like you had a good excuse for being away from here for so long  dogs need more people like you to save them!!
22. Welcome to Dogo Fred :) Best wishes to Alfie, sounds like he's on the road to recovery.
23. Best of luck for tomorrow Montie and Aroura
24. Poor Alfie! Sending positive thoughts right now.
25. OK, here is a review of the (mostly lol) Australian Cattle Dog, based solely on my experience with one: Pros: 1. Very intelligent- this can also be a con, but not if you want a working dog who needs to be able to learn commands quickly 2. Fantastic worker- these dogs are TOUGH and will work tirelessly all day and enjoy it. 3. Great guard dog- they are naturally wary of strangers and will give a very deep warning bark if needed. Very protective of family and likes to have "the pack" in the one spot (BK likes to herd people). Tradesmen often have an ACD in the back of the ute as a companion while on jobs, to guard the ute/tools if needed, and probably for personal security. 4. Willing to please- despite his stubbornness BK really likes being told what to do because it makes us happy, and he's happy when we're happy (plus he gets lots of attention for it). 5. Good with other dogs and children- BK loves kids and immediately goes into gentle mode. Same goes with puppies and small dogs, he is so incredibly tolerant of nipping, mounting and other assorted annoyances. 6. Very low doggy odour- only needs a bath once or twice a year. Cons: 1. Can be dominant with other dogs, especially males- BK is dominant but not aggressive however I still watch him carefully with bigger dogs as he tends to think he is always the boss. 2. Destructive/escapist if bored/left alone for long periods of time- you all know about BK's exploits and the numerous fences, bluestone blocks etc we have installed or rebuilt to keep him IN the backyard. He also emptied the garage and chewed up everything in sight (books included- what a mess) on one spectacular occasion. 3. Shedding- a fullblood ACD blows its coat twice a year (undercoat) and the hair is incredibly messy. BK is only half ACD but he does shed in summer, it's not that bad though. 4. Stubbornness- these dogs are bred to be hardheaded. Single-mindedness and persistence are good for herding cattle but not so good when trying to recall your dog from mounting someone else's. 5. Aloofness- BK likes to have time by himself. When he has had enough of being fussed over he'll go outside, or on his bed, or down to his kennel. However ACDs are known to be "velcro dogs" and BK is to a degree (when it suits him  ) so this is probably debatable. 6. Nipping- again, these dogs were bred to nip at the heels of the cattle they herded. They will nip at your heels, and I imagine could get nasty if one had children living with the dog and this behaviour was not discouraged. BK will only do it when he's excited and it's kind of an "up yours" gesture as you close the back door in his face. *edited to tidy up* :)
