The other day BK met Scott's Lab/BC puppy, Leo. My sister Sarah brought BK over to her house and Scott brought Leo over there too (ie a neutral spot- Leo is a little scared of other dogs), and they met. Well it was love at first sight for Leo. He adores BK and just chased him around the yard. BK apparently (I wasn't there) tried to ignore him at first, but then decided to join in the fun and chased him back. Things got a little rough when BK and Leo were wrestling (he is almost as big as BK now) and they slid into the fence (Leo head first-ouch!), but they were well behaved. It was a resounding success and hopefully I will be there for the next meeting. I should also take some photos as nobody has even seen Leo here yet (Sarah has pics)!!! Also the other day I took BK out for a walk and we went to the local park (not the dog park). There were two other dogs there, one being a really friendly 9 month old Viszla (adorable!! I want!!!). The Viszla was bigger than BK, faster than him, more energetic than him, and BK didn't like that much as he is used to being the biggest, fastest dog. They played all right but BK got tired after about 10 minutes. Showing his age at last!!! The other people couldn't believe he was 8 years old, they said he looked really young... all those steroids and anti-ageing creams that we use...     The third thing that happened the other day (yes there are lots of "other days" :P ) was that the next door neighbours' friend got a brindle Staffy puppy, all of 13 weeks old (does this bring back memories K? :) ). They brought him over to meet BK and he was really really gentle with him. The puppy was very funny- he kept barking at BK and running away to hide behind a tree. :D So they played very gently together, this puppy was about as big as BK's head. Sooooo cute!! Anyway that's what the horror dog has been up to lately. He's also been coming in at night for a few hours, just settling down next to The Boss (Dad) and napping. Very well-behaved and not super crazy like he used to be. Finally he might be settling down.

Last time I did this I was an Irish Setter. and I still am! I am the only Setter so far... 4% of emode people are setters... come on, where are you all hiding! 8) No bones about it, you're a devil-may-care Irish Setter. Fun-loving and light-hearted, life is an adventure for you

Driza-Bone coats- Rinny had one (well, BK can wear it now, if we can find it  ). They are waterproof and warm and for tough dogs.  More info here: http://www.buyinaustralia.com/en-us/dept_23.html (scroll down to the very bottom)

Ohhh poor Zaphod. Glad he is ok now though! I am sure he won't be doing that little trick again in a hurry. 8) One of the reasons I buy bigger bones for BK is he tries to stuff smaller bones in his mouth (shanks, necks etc) and swallow them whole-so far he hasn't quite succeeded. :-?

I'm so sorry, Mouse... thinking of you over the next few heartbreaking days...

Zac- do a search for Rimadyl using the search function (up the top of this page near FAQ, Memberlist etc)- there are several interesting links. eg. this one, which is probably what you're after: http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=7089&highlight=rimadyl

No idea of the fatalities but we had a German Shepherd who was on Rimadyl for arthritis (he died earlier this year aged 16- old age more than anything else :( )- it worked well for him, in fact gave him a new lease of life, with no bad side effects. I do understand it's not for every dog and in fact can be very nasty in some cases. :-?

Yikes! Largest seizure of animals in RSPCA history
bk_blue replied to ferky1's topic in Everything about dogs
oops forgot to add the paper had a quote from the next door neighbour who said they just got used to the barking and howling all night long. It was also the neighbour who said they started off with a couple of dogs and just kept adding to the pile. So why the hell didn't they do something about it???? If I lived next door to a house that was constantly noisy I would sure as hell do some investigating if only to get the dogs to quieten down so I could have some peace (if that was one's sole motivation- my other of course would be to make sure the animals were ok). :-? -

There was a report in the paper which said the animals were in very poor condition (hardly surprising), emaciated, ill, faeces and urine everywhere etc       It was said the people started with a couple of dogs many years ago and "collected" so who knows if they thought they were doing the right thing or were being deliberately cruel. -
Hey Marble :) Hopefully you can drop in from time to time. Was actually going to post a "where is Marble?" post but then I saw this.

Thanks Kiwi for all your advice!!! I am still not sure whether I will go in it (I have to make up my mind by tomorrow though :-? ). We have to be there by 9am and it doesn't finish until 5pm... he is going to be feral all day with all those other dogs, especially if he is just sitting around for most of it. I will have to get up super early and take him for a run so he just sleeps most of the day!!! Never heard of that shampoo but it sounds GOOD! Maybe I'll get some anyway! Despite him being rather smart he doesn't do tricks. He knows commands but nothing really show-offy intelligent. He would fit into Rinny's old Driza-Bone (an oilskin coat for those who don't know) if we can find it- and I suppose I could dress up like a bushman (or woman) and we could go in the Aussie working dog fancy dress! 8) Ack, what to do... oh I wish I hadn't just found out about it tonight so I'd have more time to think about it. :-?

There is a Pet Dog Show at the Royal Melbourne Show this year and I think I want to go in it with Blitz. I am a bit nervous actually as it is set up like a real show, the dogs have to be benched and stuff... they have categories like "best kept dog", "best mannered dog" (well we won't win that one  ), "waggliest tail", "most loveable pet", and a range of extra classes... if anyone wants to have a look at the entry form it is here: http://www.royalshow.com.au/pdfs/petdog.pdf Does anyone have any tips on prepping the dog (and the owner) on shows? Ta muchly! :D

Tommorrow, tommorow... it's only a day away!!!

Good luck Crested!!! -
Look at that list!! I think we've covered every territory of dog type there is. Toy, Hunting, Snow, Retriever, Guard dog, from tiny (chihauhau) to Huge (St. Bernard)
how could you forget herding?!
-
It would be very interesting to hear what he had to say! I wish I spoke dog! I suppose as a working/herding dog he is fairly intense by nature but he is so single-minded sometimes...once he has his mind on something there is no getting him to think about something else. :x  :)

      I found out the other day another funny/weird thing that BK does. Every morning without fail he will get up at dawn, sit himself phoenix like on the slate path (paws crossed of course), and watch the sun rise. He won't be distracted from watching it, not even with breakfast. He just stares at the sun until it's risen. Dad swears he plans his day during this time. Bk is so weird!
