1. K!!!
2. Colin and Booker are back home. These are the 2 dogs that were sleeping in the back of their owner's SUV when it was stolen last Tuesday. Their plight appeared on lots of dog lists. Their owner isn't releasing any details, but he was apparently contacted by the thieves and paid an undisclosed "ransom" to get his dogs back. The SUV is still missing, but he's not worried about that now that the dogs are back home in good shape. I'm sure all the good wishes of dog people across the world were much appreciated.
3. yes that is what I want to do....I just never have 8 hours in a row that I can be gone, that coincide with when they are open. I am calling to day to try to set something up. should I take toby along, as he is the growly one????
4.
5. I had an email. My contact has been sick with the flu, but she said they are holding the dog because they had interest from me, and from a rescue group. YAYY!!! Also today I ran into a friend of mine, and doggone it SHE HAS SAINTS, and used to come to my shop and tell me all about them every saturday. I had forgotten all about it. So i know more than I thought. Theirs escape all the time, they are always having to chase them all over the mountain. I still would like to see a pic before I drive all teh way down there, do you think that is asking too much? I mean, sometimes you can look at the pic and think, that dog is/is not for me.
6. I was at our shelter adopting Koda when I saw a GORGEOUS pit. She pulled too hard on the leash for me; I couldn't have held onto her. A week or two later I met a lady at the vet's office who had adopted the pit. The dog dragged her all over the waiting room, including up into Koda's face several times (Koda was sitting up in a chair behaving himself). When I was paying, they were still out there and the dog was jumping STRAIGHT INTO THE AIR to look thru the window. What a disaster! I tried to talk to the lady about a gentle leader but she took it as an insult. She also was not interested in obedience training.
7. :( I dunno. I will call tomorrow.
8. geeeeeeeeeeez. No call. No email. They didn't answer the shelter phone most of the afternoon. They were supposed to call me if no one adopted her and it got down to the wire. :( Hopefully this just means that she got a home.
9. Well now. Y'all need to be better detectives. The minute I picked her name..... she was MINE! However they are not returning my calls or emails.... I don't know what this means.... I am getting antsy becuz it is friday afternoon.....
10. Here's an easy one. Cut them up while they are warm, tehn store them in the freezer cuz for some reason they don't last long. My babies love them frozen! 1 lb chicken livers 1 cup flour 1 cup corn meal 1 Tablespoon garlic powder 1 Egg Put chicken livers and liquid in blender, liquify. Add egg, and mix. Pour into bowl. Add flour, corn meal and garlic powder. Mix. Spray jelly roll pan with pam. Pour mixture into pan. Bake 15 minutes in 400 degree hot oven. Cut into small squares while still warm.
11. A couple of saintly sites: http://www.vianet.net.au/~desaix/ http://www.saintrescue.org/ http://www.geocities.com/St_Bernard666/snow2001/dayinthe2001.htm What do you think of the name Minnie Mouse?
12. You guys are so mean to me. Those are great pics. One of my little students was telling me how beautiful my dogs are today, so I told her about it. She's about 11 and one of the sweetest human beings in the world. She said, well, it's best to go with your instinct! I am LEANING toward yes even though LOGICALLY I should say no. I say that because of Cost My boys growl at each other a lot I am also considering a job change (if you want to know about that, PM me... I'm uncomfortable saying it here. ) also, as I sit in my computer chair with a DOG IN MY CHAIR (yes we're ..um... sharing) and 2 more within 4 feet, I wonder, is it possible to have too many? Does everyone get enough attention?????
13.   Poor hubby! I can't help you, Koda pees on Fella's head.
14. I can't find one. :( maybe they aren't online.

16. 50 x 50 is feet. a small yard. Music comes after exercise...after mealtimes.... before bed....all the time! We are very routine around here. Fella is very slow to follow commands, I have never seen such. I say, "sit" and there is this huge lag while he thinks on it. Reckon there was a saint in the woodpile?
17. Thank you K those are exactly the things I needed to know. she is 2 years old (they think). My brother said the short life span was the reason he did not get one.
18. Another email!!! here's part of it: Anyway, I'm going to talk to the shelter manager tomorrow to see if she can call the owner to ask about dogs/temperment, etc. She seemed fine today with other dogs, but she's pretty depressed, so I would like to know how she reacts when she's normal. And I'm so glad you know that HW can be treated. To be honest with you, a number of rescues are putting low positive dogs on HW preventative and then retesting in six months - especially in a large breed. They seem to be having good results. Anyway, I'll let you know as soon as I talk to the shelter. Thanks again for your interest in her. She's a sweetie and absolutely beautiful. K here are some questions. They are weird q's I know, but this is the sort of thing I need to know. 1. I spend a great deal of time playing piano or playing violin. And so do other people who come to my house. With a Corgi (for example) I know this will never be a problem. Never has been in 30 years. And trust me, 30 yr ago the music was NOT that good! They lay nearby in the floor. Koda, however, is ALWAYS flopped across the piano bench if I am sitting on it. He also hits the keys with his paws. (new grand piano :x ) If I play violin standing up, he jumps at me from time to time and tries to bite the scroll  What could I typically expect from a saint? 2. What do you mean by "playful"? Do you mean, bow-and-jump playful or do you mean, bowl-me-over-if-I don't throw the ball? 3. We walk a min. of 1-1/2 miles a day.Is this enough exercise? 4. The yard is fairly small, I would say 50 X 50. , and enough room? sorry to be a bother... I will go look at those sites now but ...I just need to be sure.
19. Hi K! Well I think it's the same dog....they gave the same story about taking it to the vet, getting ready for neutering....actually she SAID spaying....but then she said, it's a boy.......hum. No mention in the phone call nor in the email of a broken leg. OHHHH here is part of the email....Thanks for checking on the St. Bernard. She will need complete vetting (spay/rabies/etc). She was actually at the vet's office about to be spayed when they tested her for HW I think the shelter worker was mistaken, who said it was a boy. AFter all, KODA WAS A "GIRL"! (he's really a boy) I had an email that they were gonna test her w/ some dogs today but haven't heard back again, and it's a little late now I guess for them to be calling. from your post (and some of your previous posts) here are my worries. Not worries but little, niggling thoughts: 1 Drool. I know this sounds really sissy but I wonder if drool would drive me nuts. (you know, this statement is from a gal who used to train horses for a living and went around with horse slobber all over her arm. maybe I am getting old!) 2 Toby is bossy...and dominant.... he could get hurt asserting himself with such a big dog! 3 This statement:
they are SLOW..to learn and to obey..you will need a great sence of humour and a big dose of patience every day....
I have patience, but I am a fast-paced person. So is the rest of my family. For that matter, so are the dogs. I'm not sure how I would be with a slow learner... if you're great with kids, does that necessarily translate into dogs? 4 My kids do not like dogs. They have a houseful, but... not one so big. 5 Am I jumping in to a breed that I know nothing about>>>YES. should I slow down? ...but there is no time to slow down.
20.
For those of you who like to start trouble... Go to this site: www.usabreeders.com
Isn't that just about all of us???? thanks, I went to the site....a real eye-opener.

Attack dogs
Oh, and members, I have a feeling "Jeff" is just a kid, trying to stirr up trouble. The way he speaks is kinda like a 11 year old?
very good point, Rowie!
22. OH!OH!OH! I just got off the phone w/ the shelter. He is a BOY dog. Not sure how I feel about that....I have all boy dogs (and cats!). He is very sweet but they don't know much about him. He was originally a stray, then the ppl that adopted him are the ones who couldn't afford the HW treatment. No one seems to know if he has ever been in a house. Fella had HW before, so that doesn't worry me too much. Finding out how he would get along w/ my boys is my biggest concern. That and: how would he be with my students? Would he herd them? or scare them? How would you go about checking the temperament from 3 hours away -- take all my dogs down there and test them together???? They are giving him til Fri. and they promised to CALL ME if it gets down to the wire.
23. Well.... I am not completely convinced that a saint is for me.... did not find very good sites as far as the personality. I mean, they didn't really TELL me about the personality. K?????? woo-hooooo K? I emailed the lady with a bunch of q's but have not gotten a response. will try to call. Koda would teach her to bark and Toby would teach her to sling mud with all 4 paws.....
24. Hi, I am sure K has already posted this but... have you seen this website? http://www.nopuppymills.com/ It has a forum! (more dog talk! ) Looks pretty neat.
25. Have the money....have the space..... only live 3 or 4 hours from there.... do I have the time???????????? I don't know much about saints?????????? headed to saint sites now....my brother has wanted one all of his life but he has a small apt and a new baby. and a wife who probably doesn't like dogs.
