1. Well who knows, you know how they edit everything out but the sweetsie little pigtailed girl and her big smile...and her big DOG.... Just didn't seem like a good situation to me.
2. I don't watch Oprah now, but some years ago I did, and her dog training information was appalling. Wonder where she got it???? One thing she did was, this little girl who was very poor wanted a dog, some huge breed, I can't remember what it was, and Oprah gave her the dog and a year's worth of food. I watched the family with the dog and thought, ok, they obviously don't know a thing about dogs, how about paying for the training or the vet bills? the food is a minor cost of dog ownership!
3. THERE you are!!! We wondered where you were! Welcome back :D
4.
"If a man speaks in the forest and no woman is around to hear him, is he still wrong?"
YES!!!!!! sheesh HF you shouldn't have had to ask!
5. ROO!!!!! I love your little doggie!!!!
6. Hobbit, Thanks for your post! Maybe I will print it out and frame it! You're right about the male perspective on my niceness. Didn't do me a bit of good! (all that tongue biting for nothing!)
I thought one of the points of having a fenced yard, on the place that YOU own (or rent), that is your sanctuary, your domain, is so your dog could have a safe place in which to play -- unsupervised, if necessary. I'm not talking about just letting them run amuck and do as they please.
That was exactly what I thought.... I own the house, I own the yard, the dogs LIVE HERE....and they can't walk freely in the yard !?! Interestingly enough, his (or her) mother is now here visitng for 2 weeks. She stands out back and smokes. She LOVES Koda and laughs her head off at his antics....he IS pretty funny, and he never stops his mischief for a second. I'm wondering if he will change his attitude, since mommy likes the dog so much. She hollered over at me and pointed to the trash, which is covering about 1/2 of their back yard at this point, and said, "they missed the trash man!" I didn't have the heart to tell her they have both been home and "missed" him for the past month. I didn't even point out the lids for the cans  which would do better ON them than laying on the ground. I am deciding which route to pursue. My attorney happens to be the best in town. Right now I am still keeping Koda in most of the time, which is making him insane. I let the Corgis out for 2 or 3 hours per day (they don't bark, or if they do I immediately call them in). To all of you who wrote encouraging words: THANKS!!!! for being supportive! :D I really appreciate you!
7.
I hope the person who started this post has sobered up??
   Oh, was THAT the problem??!!
8. Me too alicat....there is this man who drives around the block and stops periodically to tell me to pick up  I don't even walk down his street, I circle around the other 3 sides....and I clearly pick up as I usually have a baggie in my hand  plus the little thingie is hooked on my leash that holds the bags....I sure don't see anyone ELSE with that! Others have stepped out and yelled at me AS I WAS PICKING UP....about not picking up  ....I have decided that next time I'lll just dump it into their yard!
9. ok then who feels strange....the person, or the dog?
10. Seriously, I too get accused of all the messes around even though I am the only one who picks up after the dogs. Be sure you pick up EVERY SINGLE time. I would try a different approach. maybe ask the lady to walk with you. Or invite her to join you in a campaign to get all the dog owners to clean up after their pets. There is more than one way to....uh....skin a cat!
11. :o  Eric I can't believe you wrote that last bit! I would go a little further with the craziness though....maybe act REALLY looney!!!! Talk to people who aren't there....try to draw her into the conversation with them!
12.    Great job, Horsefeathers!
13. :o OK now I have seen your other post so I understand where you are coming from on this...so I better clarify be4 u guys accuse me of treating them inhumanely !!! My DOGS have to obey commands, potty outside, sometimes sleep in a crate, and get off the couch if I say so. They may not destroy my belongings, or pee in the middle of my bed (like my friend's dog does on a regular basis) just because they are my little darlings. They have to eat dogfood, not what they want (which is, anything sweet). The biggest way that I think i treat mine like "dogs" is.... if it is a nice warm day, i may boot them out to the back yard for awhile so that they can romp and I can mop the floor in peace! So there! oh...I also would not throw the ball and encourage my human child to catch it in his mouth
14.
Now you would not (I hope) let your human children run around sniffing others butts or let them poop in the park or hump other kids.
   Carol....this part just struck my funnybone! I have not so far allowed my children to do these things.... although they have thought of some other embarrassing things to do... but if they ever do them I will let you know!!!! Seriously, I think dogs are happier being DOGS. They don't have a clue why we try to treat them like humans!
15.
Too much :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: before posting.
Speak for yourself, Hobbit-y!!!
16.
  .... pants on fire...you have TEN in ONE body!!  and they are ALL trying to get out at once....... :drinking:
  WELLLLLL if you had explained that to me a long time ago I would have known what was wrong with him! LOL Actually he got to sleep on the bed night before last, and he didn't even chew up a sock. The others got in a who-sleeps-closest to mom war with him, though, so I felt like I was trapped in a cocoon...locked down under the covers by the doggie bodies. Then last night....back to his old ways....so into the kitchen for the night!
17. How did you teach her to do the other tricks? have you ever tried using a clicker?
18.
Er ok ladies Roo and K, just what do you have WITH your tea? :drinking: :drinking: :drinking:
THAT is what I was wondering!!!
19. LOL.....yes Kiwi, it makes sense to me. I agree, it isn't fair to generalize or label people as a group.....it's downright silly if you think about it because honestly WE DON'T EVEN KNOW EACH OTHER!!! So how could you group "us" or "them" or whatever. BTW, I have a hard time making sense on here too....I am a good writer, so I don't understand why I can't communicate on this board! Maybe I don't take the time to word my posts properly??? and often it's late at nite and I am tired, I dunno!!!!
20. (waving hand frantically in the air) I have one! I have one!
21.
Although I originally posted the "Dissed" Thread I never thought it would break out into a full scale forum war  I did it because I thought that BB members were entitled to see what Dogo members were saying about them, and I did think a lot of it was nasty and uncalled for.
If you thought that, why didn't you just address it with us, rather than take it there?

Clipping Nails
Now no one scream, but I've never cut Winnie's nails. She was so active she'd wear them off to the right length. I'm going to have to get her nail clippers for Christmas though, she's getting old and lazy and her nails are getting long. Rats. Now for the nail clipping training. Shoot I thought I had got out of that chore.
 Poor you!I had the same thing, mine always wore them down at the farm. And they looked better then than they do now! I have to say, though, they are much better about having their nails clipped than they are about letting me wash their feet off when we come in from the muddy back yard!
23. Well if you think about it they should be MORE likely to be seen by a vet in this SMALL city because the vets have less to do! What bothered me was that the article focused more on the fact that there is no animal control officer than on WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE for not feeding them. The son was supposed to feed them, and he just didn't show up for a couple of weeks???? I would like to put him in a cage at the animal shelter and leave him there (no food/water) for 2 weeks. See how he likes it!
24. Hawkins County Humane Society rescues abandoned dogs Tuesday, December 17, 2002 By Jeff Bobo Times-News GOSHEN VALLEY - Eight living dogs, five dead dogs and two dead cats were found in a Goshen Valley mobile home Saturday by officials who described the conditions inside the residence as putrid and beyond disgusting. According to officials with the Hawkins County Humane Society and the sheriff's department, the dogs being kept in a mobile home at 1183 Goshen Valley Road belonged to an elderly man who is now a nursing home patient and a woman who has been incarcerated in the Hawkins County Jail for several months on DUI convictions. The elderly man's son had been feeding the animals. Although the son apparently had agreed to feed and water the animals, he reportedly told Hawkins County Humane Society Director Wayne Poston he didn't bother to look too far inside the mobile home because of the smell. Poston said the son hadn't been to care for the animals for about two weeks by the time they were rescued on Saturday. "The conditions inside that house were unbelievable to say the least," Poston said. "The conditions inside the house tell me this has been the animals' living conditions for a couple of years. The feces and urine was two inches deep in some spots, and it would burn your eyes the odor was so strong." At least two of the dead dogs had puppies right before they died, and most of the puppies died as well, Poston said. Some of the dead animals were in an advanced state of decomposition, he added. Poston said the surviving dogs appeared malnourished, and they are being evaluated at the shelter. Dogs that need medical attention will be examined by a veterinarian over the next week or two. All but one of the surviving dogs are friendly, Poston said, and if the vet gives them a good bill of health they will be offered for adoption by the Humane Society. Most of the dogs were "Yorkies" or similar little dogs, and there was one chow mix. "The chow was actually the healthiest of the bunch, and it's going to the groomer tomorrow to remove some matted hair," Poston said. "The Yorkies are a little bit skinny, but that's not unusual when a dog has puppies. The condition of their toenails is what worries me. "They're an inch and a half to two inches long and are turning back into the pad." Because there is no animal control officer for unincorporated Hawkins County, police and the Humane Society had a hard time getting permission to investigate the Goshen Valley residence after complaints started coming in last week. The major stumbling block was finding out who actually had permission to check on the dogs. Although the dogs reportedly belong to the female jail inmate, the home apparently belongs to the elderly nursing home patient, whose son has been granted his power of attorney. Poston said he also learned that the elderly man actually paid for the dogs, which gave the son the ability to give authorities permission to take them. Poston and Hawkins County Sheriff's Department Deputy Greg Larkin arrived at the residence about 11 a.m. Saturday, where they met the elderly man's grandson, who reportedly carried with him permission from the son to enter the residence and remove the dogs. Hawkins County Sheriff Warren Rimer said Monday that this is an ideal example of where the county would benefit from an animal control officer. Rimer said his deputies do not carry with them the tools needed to handle animal complaints, particularly complaints of this magnitude. Poston hauled the animals to the shelter in his pickup, and Mount Carmel Animal Control Officer Tim Dennis came to help with the one animal that was vicious. During the administration of former Sheriff Wayne Clevinger, there were several attempts to secure budget funding for a county animal control officer. But due to the cost, that budget request never made it past the Hawkins County Commission. :(
25.  That's what I was going to say, Carol!
