:( Actually, according to the US Department of Justice, about 4 million women are abused in the US alone each year. You're right, they will stay because of the animals. The abusers know just how to pull their mate's strings, and of course one way to do it is thru their beloved pet. Sounds like a good cause. Good luck!

Ever been GLAD your dog bit someone?
corgilady replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Everything about dogs
HF, pitbulletta basically stated my position somewhere up this thread... YOU rent the space, and Jerk-o had no business being there....if you lock up your place with your dogs inside, and there's an emergency like a fire, no one can get them out --right? so that may not be the best solution??? But you could try something with the guy that I did once. Now, you guys know I don't cuss. but I got right in his face and said, you get your @#$%$ a** outta here and don't come back, and I won't charge you with [animall cruelty, in your case] and criminal trespass. Musta skeered him purty bad; he didn't show his hide 'round these parts no more!  -
This is why Pit Bulls do not belong in dog parks.
You must have a different chain of Wal*Marts than we do. The greeters that stand in the front of ours were hired on to stand at the front and look menacing. They are like those palace guards over in England with their glazed expressions and wouldn't smile or speak if their lives depended on it. They undergo special training in how to grimace, snarl and look as intimidating as possible while at the same time they file all the buggy wheels to be perfectly square so they have that neat little clack clack clack thing going when you're shopping. Our greeters also undergo rigorous physical training so as to be able to dash out the door and nab those rotten ne'er do wells who dared walk out of the store empty handed for surely they must have shoved merchandise in their pockets. Who knew there were two different chains of Wally Worlds in the US? :o
 And not only do they NOT greet you; just as you approach them, they place their hands on the front buggy (the one that you need) and become engrossed in conversation with each other....so you can't get their attention to get a buggy... :drinking: makes ya wanna take your most evil dog to the store with you, huh? And by the way, i know this is the Evil Dog thread and all, but today is almost over and not one o' you has sung me the birthday song :bday: -
 Great! I think you're both still on my yahoo im. By the way, I wasn't advocating making it a private forum; just pointing out that we don't have a lot of options. K, I don't think it matters where the rules are posted. People who don't follow rules won't bother to read them, even if they are placed as a pop-up ad..... hey.... can you fix them up as a pop up on just a couple of people? Please??? LOL

Most of my friends on this board dont know about my latest dog, I think........ I have a deaf sheltie. He doesn't require a lot of communication, as he is very old and decrepit. I do have a hand signal for come here, palm up...fingers together....waggle fingers up and down. Also for a sit command I put my hands like I am praying and then when he looks at me I turn the fingertips downward very deliberately. And if I want him to go someplace, I point from him in a sweeping motion to the door or whatever. That's about it. Mostly he lays on me, wanted to be petted. Also when my violin students come in (see? there are ADVANTAGES to being deaf)he sits on their violin case, forcing them to pet him if they want to get their violin out. Sometimes he pokes me with his nose when he wants petted, then turns around with his back just within reach of my hand. guess he thinks I am deaf, too. :D

Hi Horsefeathers!!!!! How are ya? I'm lurking, mostly..... Thanks for your input, all of you! You're a great help! I'll pm each of you with questions about specifics. And Hazel's story was so heartfelt...it was also very well written....I wish she felt comfortable sharing it (but I understand why she doesn't).

Exactly, Divine! Makes you want to give em a job, or something!!!

Hi, The ones I have now, I just have for pets. Toby is 7 and Fella is 6. I used to have one that I showed in obedience trials. Actually these guys know all the commands; I'm just too lazy to show them. I would love to do agility, but it doesn't exist around here. We recently had a Corgi picnic, with Corgis and mixes from 15 states. When the pics are posted, I'll send you a link. It was SOOOO cool. Also if you want to know more, you could subscribe to Corgi-L. http://corgi.ncn.com It's one of the oldest and largest internet lists. There is also a group called Corgi Aid at www.corgiaid.org that has lots of links to all things corgi. Those of us who have them are nuts about them, as you can see.

OK folks, please don't turn my thread into a rant about big dogs, little dogs, mean dogs, and pit (pitt pittttttt) bull stories..... I'm a writer looking for stories about an aggressive dog that you own or have owned. I've had one myself, so please don't think I'm going to bash you. Tell me how you got him (breeder, ASPCA, etc) how old he was when you got him, and how you dealt with his aggression. What was the end result? Were you successful? Would you do it again? For now, I'm not going to differentiate between people-aggression and dog-aggression; that will come later. At some point, if I use your story, we'll exchange real names; I'll have to have a written release saying I can use your name. You can pm me here if you'd rather, and I'll give you my email address. Posting email addys on the board gives them to the spammers. They are worse than----nahh, you won't laugh at my joke. Thank you for your help!!!

Hi y'all, i left this forum before due to a lot of bickering. Just recently returned, and it does seem to have a lot of guests and dissention. The only way you could keep that from happening is to form a private discussion board, and then NOT post the addy but just share it among friends. Even that would only work as long as the trolls couldn't coerce the addy out of someone...... good luck! And by the way DAL, I love your sig picture! :D

Hi Eileen, the darkish guys are sables. My corgi friends are always telling others that mine are "true" sables, so apparently there are some fakes out there.... Painted-on eyebrows, perhaps???? The other one is a plain ol' red and white. Also nearby is Fella's sister, a blackheaded tri. I'll try to get a picture of her soon. take care, tanya

A little Doggie Rant (no offense to small dog owners)
corgilady replied to Sharpeigirl's topic in Everything about dogs
I had the opposite, my 3 small (well, short) guys on leash and a guy with 3 big dogs off lead...I could hear him yelling at them over and over as i approached, they obviously weren't trained to voice commands  He was throwing things into the creek for them to fetch, which they weren't necessarily bringing back, but were racing in circles with them. I was on the local walking path at the time, where I happen to be on patrol. So I called dispatch and reported 3 dogs running loose. They said, there is no leash law out there. Well there sure as heck is, so I concluded he was a cop and they knew he was out there. They didn't attack, just sniffed, but they sure gave me a heart attack. He shrieked at them while I convinced mine to walk past them. Well, I sort of dragged them really. You'd think people would have more sense......nahhhhh what was I thinking. -
:o Well, I am speechless. Most of you are saying the invisible fence doesn't work....I walk the boys by this house 3-4 times a week where there is an "invisible" fence. The two dogs inside it act like they are going to eat us up. They are big, like a pittttttt something mix (sorry!) and a dal mix. We do switch to the other side of the street as we get there, but still...that is what, 20 feet away? Guess we'll walk someplace else.....

 Hi Sasha!!!!
-
I took my guys to the park recently, and this man saw us coming toward him and sat down on a bench, pulling his dog up beside him....not sure why as all mine and his were on leashes.... when we got to him it was a Corgi/ Chi mix! So we ended up in this long conversation. He said he'd had other dogs jump on his twice lately, and the dog is getting gun-shy. But it got down and played with mine just fine. I hate how people let their bigger dogs jump on the little guys; I've had that happen to. If you tell them to back off, they act like you've done something wrong. Sheesh.

I was playing the piano and heard a huge thumping noise. I peered around the lid, which was up, could see Toby and part of Fella and they weren't concerned. It happened a ouple more times, so I got up ..... :o Echo S. was carrying a 3-lb weight and hefting it up-down-up-down. Every so often he lost his grip and it would THUNK to the floor!!!!! Think what a strong neck he'll have! (I tried to take a piccie but every time I snapped it, he put his weight down and ran to me.)

:o Since we are on the topic..... My boys started marking the house some months ago. I am at my wit's end. This morning they marked my harp. For a fleeting second, I considered marking their heads with it. :agrue: I think that, on the days they get 2 walks and lots of forced outside time, they don't mark inside. I could be wrong. It's enough to drive one to :drinking:

Well.... I am just trying to figure out here..... :hmmmm: If you don't want to train them.... what DO you want to do with them? (because it seems to me that any activity you do with a dog requires some level of "training")
