LOL snake....none of us ever listen, do we? yep that's about how I had to act....not as drastic since mine are fairly small and a little more laid back ....also didn't want to scare the new guy, who could be made shy if you were too hard on him I think. Usually when I am mad, I don't even have to say it. I can walk into the room and they scatter. That day I roared (barked? snarled?). They got the point. Hey K....did you notice I took your advice and it worked....THANKS!!!!! :D

Too cute! :D :D

i have one tailed corgi and one without....the tail is fascinating to me becuz I've never had a corgi with one before. I can't say he uses it for a rudder, but it sure does help him "strut"! He is one cocky dog, waving that tail. I'ts a really pretty tail, too. As far as "use", I can't see a difference in the 2. Toby holds his stub the same way Fella does, usually. you just have to look harder at the stub to see whether it is wagging. :) Corgilady

I wasted a lot of time hunting for it too...nosey me  the dogs are getting along a teeny bit better since I (1) made toby know he is my #1 and (2) got really really angry and yelled at them once when they were fighting. corgilady

What should be done about the "dangerous dog" prob
corgilady replied to gooeydog's topic in Everything about dogs
I agree with Mei-Mei....most of the time the dog in question has done something before....remember the lawyer couple whose dog killed the lady in the apartment building hallway? (sorry, can't remember any names) I heard that over 50 people had stories of the same dog's agression. All in all, though, it's PEOPLE who are at fault -- not dogs! :) Corgilady -
yoooo-hoooo.....could really use some help here.....the topic? Remember????? Preferably BEFORE they kill each other! Thanks!

Hi, sorry K I thought I had chanted my "2 Corgis and a mutt" so often everyone was sick of it... ...then my computer froze, then my name was gone..... Toby, "top dog" Corgi, age 4 Fella, 2nd in command Corgi, age 3 Toffee, Aussie or aussie/sheltie or border collie, "around" 1 year old Thanks roo, i will try keeping a log....If I were to write it down, it would be mostly fights surrounding my presence, although sometimes the kids tell me they fought when I wasn't at home. It also happens more often when food is around (even when I am just handing out treats). They are not discriminating and will bite whatever gets in the way!!! They fight both indoors and outdoors. Even when Toffee lets Toby herd him to the back door, and he lays down, Toby isn't satified and stands over him growling. Toby now has a mark on his eye and a bitten ear. I do not like separating them but also don't like what's going on.... CORGILADY, hopefully with a name this time (otherwise how will I ever get a paw????)

Wow, in trying to research the "toy munchkin" dogs (just curious....because someone said they are not what they are purported to be) I found some websites where people are breeding mutts, and advertising them for sale! what do you guys think about that? I am shocked; didn't know it took place ON PURPOSE. I thought there were enough unwanted purebreds out there???? I am not referring to breeding closely related breeds, say to get a broader muzzle or deeper chest or something, but just crossing up all kinds of dogs....here's a link.... No the new dog is not a corgi. he is probably an australian shepherd. Or maybe just a mutt. I am trying to post pictures, will let you know if I get them. THANKS for the suggestions on training him....he got loose again today...I had the gate open to bring a Corgi into the yard, and he jumped OVER the Corgi and took off....I tried my happy-voice "come" command, it was useless...I gave chase but the neighbors had some garbage out (THANK GOODNESS!) and he stopped to sniff it. When I get to him in these instances, he hunkers down like I am going to beat him. He did this and froze. I crouched beside him and petted him for awhile before I picked him up and lugged him back to the fence. I had him neutered on Friday, people say that will help, but I think he has some issues becuase of his "former life" more than anything. Also I am not used to such a -- don't laugh --- tall dog. What word would you pick for the emergency, come-to-me now word???? Thanks!

Last night in puppy class, the subject of dog food came up. Thanks to this site (yaaay! :D ) I knew a lot about the ingredients....when I started talking the teacher started trying to shut me up... She works for a pet store. Anyway I just said get on the internet and look it up. I am still debating whether to commit to a BARF diet....$$$ and time commitment....so here's what they get right now: Purina One dry Nutro max canned (for the puppy, one can a day in addition to the dry) one hot dog apiece, cut up and tossed into their pool ("dive for hot dogs") liver treats table scraps one hamburger per dog per day ***no they aren't spoiled!***

I've used a choke collar (years ago, when they were all the rage). I can't say I got very good results from it, meaning it only worked WHILE SHE WAS WEARING IT and the rest of the time she disobeyed! Now I have a dog in training and "positive reward" is all the rage....food and lots of praise.....it's working ok but today when my daughter had treats, and I didn't, the dog would sit for her but not for me! HAH! I've only had him a month, so we aren't worried yet. We use a "gentle leader" headcollar on him. My biggest concern with him is that he runs away. The dog catcher said that he was a stray, and that it took him 3 days to catch him. He has gotten away from me twice, and both times he ran like crazy and wouldn't respond to commands or treats. The first time I tackled him; the second time a car hit him ( he seems ok) and it scared him so that he laid down, and I ran over and grabbed him. :( One of the other dogs responds well to clicker training, he knows sit, wait, stay, down, roll over, and heel. My third dog is scared to death of a clicker and doesn't follow many commands. However all he wants to do is either sit by me or lay at my feet, so people think he is a really well behaved dog.

OH MY.....they are beeeyooooootiful!!!!!!! :) :) :)

I was told by a biologist that there are 2 animals that cannot swim: pigs and Corgis. I have not tried it with the Corgis; their pool is only about 6" deep! :D

My dogs occasionally bark at each other in play....my neighbor then immediately starts yelling "SHUT UP!!!! SHUT UP!!!!" so of course the dogs think something is wrong and start barking for real....then she comes & tells me they are barking! I have been on my side of the fence when this happened, so I know she is the instigator, really. She also threatened to have them taken, claiming that according to the noise ordinance she could do that. I drove straight to animal control and found out we don't HAVE a noise ordinance!! :P So...you have my sympathy....mine are little guys so I know you'll get even more grief cuz yours are the "big, mean" rotties. :(

how far is too far to start? We walk 1.5 or 2 miles every day....very flat land, different from the hiking terrain. They act like they're dying, but then they come home and run all over the yard!

I'm talking about really long hikes.... I hike the appalachian trail and would like to take them along...I know about cleanup etc but what about conditioning them for long hikes? thanks!
