1. Deep, you are always getting your posts in front of mine, making me look like an idiot talking to someone way above....STOP TALKING WHEN i'M TALKING!
2. thanks Guest...the dog came from behind a five-foot hedge and I had never seen it before. The rest of the story is, my daughter says she sees it all the time and plays with it. she can't believe it even knows how to growl. she says the "raised hackles" is just the way the dog looks! Hilarious!
3.
if that doesnt work i have obtained some kick butt recipes.
UH-OH. Is this testosterone again??????? Just joking guys -- OUCH ! Hey stop throwing things! :D Corgilady

OK thanks Mei-Mei :) This man in my class kept saying his dog was on valium. I don't know if he was serious or not!
5.
I was ready to bodily pick up the GSD and hurl him away. Haha, I would have been in traction whether or not I was successful. I waded right in throwing knees left and right and yelling OUT in a firm voice. Thankfully, once again, it worked.
Ummm that sounds dangerous....for somebody  This all reminds me of a story....about 20 years ago <gasp!> I was walking on packed snow and ice with a Corgi and a sheltie mix. These 2 dalmations ran up to us and started barking and growling. I stepped in front of my dogs and started yelling at them, but they went around me and pretty soon the fur was flying. By this time I was shrieking. They couldn't even hear me over their own noise. Suddenly from above us this little old lady stepped out onto her deck and said, " Scat there!" and the two dogs ran off! :o :o :o gotta go to work now, corgilady

Hehehe...ok snake heading out right now to buy velcro.... :D ....why didn't I think of that! Thanks Carol...I just got back from 2 1/2 miles of the most UN FUN walk/run we've done yet....my arms are out of the sockets....put the gentle leader on him halfway thru but he fights it so hard, it is no relief....met a man along the way with a pointer (?) mix who said that he had his on LOOSELY....hah! He thought mine was too tight I guess, but dingbat gets it off if it isn't tight! grrrrrr.

ya mean these rotten, outta control dogs? :D Bring him on!!!!
8. I will check into a Tazer. I am not familiar with them. Yes Carol, it was the fear factor that made this a story - my heart dropped to my feet. I am not big at all but have been called the Tazmanian devil when angry  I have approached a man on the street who was beating his wife and broke it up while many others (bigger women,, men) stood and watched. So I would hope that I would defend my dogs. I can just see it.....me trying to defend them....them trying to defend me.....holy cow.
9. We all tried a dremel tool at Toby's obedience class. Toby hated it. They had a sanding disc on it. In my work I use the other bits, like the carbide ones(?) or whatever they're called. Do you guys use ametal one or the sandpaper ones. ouch! the cat is biting, he says my computer ytime is OVER.

hey CarolK9s, I am interested to hear you say this about Brittany. I am so frustrated with my Aussie (?) cross that I have considered finding him another home!!!! Of course that was yesterday, when I was sooooo tired, and today he is such a good boy. He chews stuff I would never even think of -- I mean destroys it in no time. He jumps up despite our work with a trainer on it. Yesterday he jumped up and smashed into my face, knocking my glasses to the ground and bending them. :x Glasses never go back the right way after that!!! :( He is an escape artist, and recently has figured out how to get over the 5' tall fence in the back. In the car he runs back and forth, across me or slamming his head into the glass or whatever. Of course I use a crate, I have one in the car and one in the bedroom, and a gate across the kitchen. But I hate confining him, and it seems like he ends up separated from everyone all the time. I have tried to exhaust him, thinking he'll surely LAY DOWN for a sec if he is tired, but he has lots more energy than my whole family put together  Anyway if Brittany was "busy" too, and is ok now, perhaps there is hope. I also think he is younger than what I was told, which would explain a lot of his behavior.
11. that was a great story, snake! I wouldn't have thought of 'hanging' the dog....but will keep it in mind. Obviously no one else wants to talk to me about this subject either  I guess all the other members here are really the rottie owner you were talking about ! :D We're going to walk somewhere else today. I will have to think about a "weapon" to carry, as I am sure that with trying to hold onto mine, I wouldn't have a hand left to grab the attacker. corgilady
12. I walked my dogs up the street (same route as usual, for at least 4-5 months). Suddenly this "pit bull" looking dog came out from behind a hedge, hackles raised, charging us and growling! :o I froze and yelled "WAIT" to mine (I use wait when asking them to stop as we cross the street, or whatever. I'm pretty lax about it, not always forcing them to completely stop) It's good to know that, in a crunch, they obey. All three stopped dead. As we stood there, another smaller dog ran out and joined the first one. I kept telling mine, "wait, stand up". There was a steady stream of traffic at my back (not sure it's a good idea to turn one' s back on an approaching, aggressive dog anyway). A lady came out from behind another hedge and told me that was her neighbors dog. I asked her to hold him. so she got his collar, and it came off in her hand! She got it back on and held the dog around his body. She kept saying, he's not my dog. I kept saying, JUST HOLD HIM. I drew all my leashes up short and inched past them. The little dog tried to follow but he didn't seem as aggressive, so she eventually was able to get him to come back. Is there a way to handle this differently? Like, should I have gone back across, or turned and walked the other way? Or, told the dog to get lost :D would you call animal control and report the owners for not keeping their dog on a leash (we have a leash law)? would you talk to the people yourself? Also, worst case scenario: if you're standing on a busy street holding 3 leashes, and suddenly the dogs are in a fight......do you let go of the leashes????????? Corgilady
13. The only nail tips I know about are for cats. You glue them on, the vet's assistant told me they last several months. They are an alternative to declawing, as they keep the cat from damaging things with his nails. I haven't walked fella again but he ain't happy. I took them out and tried to show him to walk on the grass but their normal way of walking is one of the others on the grass and Fella marches down the sidewalk. So they thought I was messing up their system. :) Thanks for your help!!! Corgilady
14. Hi, I just discovered that Fella's nails are COMPLETELY worn down. That's the 2 in the middle on both front feet, and the side ones on the back feet. The girl who trims his nails never mentioned it, and I always feel their paids but not the nails.... anyway, I hadn't noticed. It's probably becauyse we've been walking a lot more than usual. What would you do? Put boots on him? He'd DIE if I walked without him! Corgilady
15.
I saw a corgi (sorry corgilady!) doing the exact same thing today.
hahahaha well at least it wasn't MINE! :D Actually one of mine does the weirdest thing; on the path where we walk, there are some wooden bridges. They're wide enough for one person and one bike, just barely. So every time a bicycle comes along, I pull all the dogs over in front of me. For some reason, Toby INSISTS on pulling over in front of the bike, every time! He plants his (considerably large) butt and won't budge! They have to stop and wait while I remove him; being so low to the ground he gets a lot of leverage. I figure that one day a nice dog-lover type person will come along and I will ask them to continue riding toward him.....maybe even "bump" him gently....so he can see the need to get OUTTA THE WAY! :o sheesh! Corgilady :D
16.
DO think some punishment is justified here. What you need to do is roll up that newspaper, smack yourself on the head a few times, and say 'Thats what I get for not watching my puppy!' LOL, just kidding there unless of course you like that advice! [/quote} hahaha! how true! And unfortunately, when mine do somethjing like that...welllllll.....there's only me to blame! corgilady
17. awwwww what cute pix!! :) I can never get pix cuz Fella gets RIGHT in front of the camera! Grrr!

Jumping!

Toffee sneaks and jumps up too, but twice my NOSE has been over his head.....ouch!
19. Toby is 4 years old and he just graduated from obedience tonite. :D They all say he would make a great therapy dog. I'd never thought of that for him, but they're right. corgilady
20. Here's one like it....these people starved horses, not dogs, but they got a slap on the wrist....should've been tied up to starve to death themselves, they looked on the news like they eat PLENTY!!!!!! The link: http://www.timesnews.net/index.cgi?BISKIT=4014658028&CONTEXT=story&id=63773&category=6&search_query=karen+gobble Bluff City couple sentenced to 60 days for abusing horses Category: LOCAL NEWS Published: August 28, 2002 ...herd of horses will serve 60 days in jail, a judge ruled Tuesday. 21.     you guys are just TOOOOOO funny! I used to live in west virginia myself... two guys broke into my barn at 2 am.... there I was alone with a mare, a tiny colt, a baby bottle....and 2 drunks. within 2 weeks I had 3 adult ROTTIES....you know, more of those criminal dogs. Never had any more surprises in the barn but man THE CRIMES THOSE DOGS COMMITTED. I'll tell ya what. Why don't we all print this forum out and MAIL IT to that mayor? :P going to bed now, nite-nite. corgilady
22. LOL yeah K that's right, you just go on thinking that hon! I had a lady offer me a tiny Yorkie... 2 lb or something...then she explained that she was walking slowly across the living room and it got near her foot, so she accidentally kicked it and broke its leg. that's why she was giving it up. I can't imagine something that fragile in our house! corgilady
23. snake you make me cry   I had to put down a pony, she was like 35 years old. my friend who was a vet suggested it because he said her heaves were so bad, it was like she had just finished a hard run ALL THE TIME....so he came over to give her the shot...but just then she found some ripe pears on the ground and she jogged over to eat them, so he gave the injection and the last thing she did was look me right in the eye LIKE SHE KNEW WHAT I HAD DONE....aaaaugh. also snake thanks for clarifying about the pig....you made me see how much the poor thing suffered. corgilady
24. well thank you very much but I won't be using my TEETH!!! Seriously, my new dog(Aussie cross?) seems to have a bit of agression sometimes. he put his mouth on my daughter today....not exactly a bite but "growl, snarl, chomp gently on the arm". A warning, I guess. Also the vet's assistant picked him up and he growled at her too. I could say well, she just bent over and snatched him up and it startled him, but I hate to be someone who makes excuses for a bad dog! Corgilady, who is a little uppity now that she got a PAW
25. how awful  ....perhaps those irresponsible owners should be forced to work in a vet's office to assist with some of the injuries like their dogs caused. I feel bad for all the animals involved. Even the "pack" dogs don't really know they're doing anything wrong, they're following instinct. I had a neighbor's dog chasing a horse a few years ago. I knocked on her door and explained that the horse could kill the dog if he kicked it. She said she was there first! The she called the people who owned the barn i leased and told them I threatened to shoot her dog! (not at all, I was extremely pleasant through the whole - irritating - conversation  ) Animal control said I had to get pictures proving the dog chased the horse before they could get involved. The worst thing was that I could be working in the barn and suddenly the dog would run in and charge the horse, and I had to dodge flying hooves. I never got hurt, but I did lose the lease because she kept on with the story that I might shoot her dog. So I guess she won. Glad the site is back up! Corgilady
