1.
Can we have some of your rain pretty pretty please with sugar on top ? Its so dry here when it rains Im going to go and stand in it !! Its going to be 31 degrees tommorow too hot :x
Bottling the rain up right now.... will send it over..... may include 83 pairs of muddy shoes with it ( but not free steak knives  )
2. Marble, I didn't know about the study but I had wondered about the carb content myself..... it would make sense.... so far NONE of the dogfoods I have looked at are really great, and puppy foods were worse than the adult foods. Good luck!
3.
K have you thought of councelling(sp)

4.
I think in addition to the Clomicalm you need to get this dog to obedience classes. Has he done any obedience at all?? It would make life easier for you if the dog obeyed your commands and would give the dog some structure.
Yes he is in advanced obedience right now, plus he knows about 10 "tricks". He DOES have structure. He also has issues, from before I got him or from poor breeding or whatever. Obviously, anne, life would be easier if he obeyed. That is why I was asking for help. :evilbat:
5. She is leaving because she is a child, and we have hurt her feelings. She loves Duck and feels that she would be abandoning him by giving him to a new owner. Egg, what would happen if you left Duck in your room (not in the crate) for, say, one hour ? Would the room be destroyed? Would the carpet get peed on? what if you kept Duck out of the crate for a little at a time, building up to an hour? Then you could leave him out for a bit, and someone else (dad or housekeeper) could put him back up, for example, after you left for school. Or if your yard is safe for Duck, leave him in the yard and then let the housekeeper put him up. I think you will see less hyper behavior if Duck can get some exercise! I really feel for you, Egg, and your predicament. It will be hard to resolve this situation, and it would be hard to give your dog up. You are very brave to go against your society's way of keeping their pets. You are trying to treat your dog in a more positive, loving way than the people around you and that is wonderful. You are super! I wish I knew more 13 year olds with your level of maturity! Good luck, no matter what you decide to do. :)
6. Yes I will call today....at 6:30 a.m. when I let them out, he ran out to the fence and started barking....he is between houses with a concrete drive in between, so trust me it sounds like a BIG BARK....the neighbors will be over today to complain for sure. It took me 20 minutes (in the pouring rain) to catch him, all the while he dashed from one side to the other, or all around me, barking his idiot head off. I am so fed up with him. I tried propping the back door open, but he runs in, and as soon as he catches my eye he runs out. And once again, a squirt bottle is not the answer. When you can't get within 10 feet of a dog, you cannot squirt him!!!!

Carpet?
I know; I'm in the same boat! What time is it anyway????
Whatever time it is, we are all one hour LATE!!!
8. YOU'D BETTER NOT LAUGH, MR. LIVER-PIZZLE-STICK!
9.
I don't know how you feel about what I call mind medications, but I have always been a cynic who feels that far too many people count on drugs to make them, their kids, or their dogs "normal." It doesn't make me very popular with some folks. However, having this knucklehead (said with affection) has made me a believer. Sometimes medication IS necessary.
You are right on both counts: first, there ARE too many people depending on meds....my favorite is the mom who feeds her kid 10 soft drinks a day, then says he needs ritalin!!! And secondly, I think there are situations that warrant medication. After tonites episode with Koda, I am willing to try just about anything. We went to petsmart for class: whine whine whine all the way there (30 min). he's in the car all the time but he never has learned to be still OR quiet in the car. During class he was completely hyper and only obeyed his commands about 1/2 the time. afterwards back in the car -- run back & forth & whine whine whine. Upon arrival at home, out into the yard to bark (and run from me, when I tried to bring him in). He's still rarin' to go but I am exhausted!
See? I can be taught. :-?
:D
10. :D it's not your fault, K, it's the GLUE.....it crawls or something..... I was gluing a violin bow back together for a student when I discovered that the back side of the superglue had burst open....so all my squeezing was causing it to run down the back of my hand. My daughter's friend was here, her dad is a plastic surgeon, so she called him for help    even though I used the chemical he told me to, I basically had no skin on that hand for awhile. i hate superglue!
11.   :rainbowafro:
12. Hello Byrd!! We missed you, welcome back! :D
13. Egg, I have an idea. What if you took 2 crates and put them together? Then at least your dog would have a little more room to move around. Good luck! And your right -- American kids would DIE if they had your schedule! My students brag to me when they have practiced their music for 15 MINUTES!!! :o I am not impressed!
14.
My girl has OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), we think...and anxiety. She was on Amitriptyline for a month to see if that would help. It did to an extent, but not completely so we took her off it. While she was on it, she did not need her puppy valium when there were thunderstorms. It worked great for that! Have you thought of something like that for his condition, or even homopathic medicine?
No I hadn't got that far.....will check into it thanks.... altho today we had a miscommunication and my dad left them out at noon, I got in around 8 and he wasn't barking. Hmmmmmm.
15. ok i have typed this message twenty times. trying again.....darn it..... I do not think he is barking AT something. I used to think that he was barking at the cars and trucks going by, especially the bigger/louder ones. But now it seems like he just barks. He gets his milk carton, races around, shakes it to death, drops it, runs to the corner (gate) and barks. Then starts again. He doesn't really bark if I am out there. Or even if I stand at the door and he can see me. Of course he barks some inside too, at night. I think he is barking at noise that he hears. he seems incredibly aware (nervous) of ALL sounds outside. Fear....remember he was scared to death when I got him. he doesn't seem that way now but comes over and flops across my lap every little bit for a quick pat. I would describe him as more nervous, or A.D.D., than scared. Corgilady
16.
Lung? You asked LUNG.....when there's a 10 - 12 INCH PIZZLE that comes with it!?! ....girl, girl, girl --- Where ARE your priorities!?
OH  you are right what was I THINKING???? More to the point Hobbit.....ahem ...... WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?????
17. Now that I have a fence, Koda's barking has gotten WORSE!!! I asked you guys if your dogs were mostly inside, and you mostly said yes. so i thought, ok, maybe he just wants to be IN more. But even if he is only OUT for a few minutes, he BARKSANDBARKSANDBARKS. I can't stand it. my neighbors can't stand it. I am spending hours (that I don't have) trying to entertain him, wear him out, give him enough attention, and he can't go out for 10 minutes without doing the Stand and Bark. he runs around the yard (often with his milk carton in his mouth) then comes back to the corner and barks. Then runs, then barks. or else he just stands at the gate and barks nonstop. I have tried doing "no bark" and "quiet" but ---- he doesn't usually bark if I'm out there!!!! I'm getting to the end of my rope here!!!! Please help!
18. :o Lung on a pizzle???????????????
19. :o That's like having a mountain lion in the barn! I watched my daughter fighting her dog off this morning....he kept jumping up JUST LIKE SHE SHOWED HIM YESTERDAY....I didn't say a word. She didn't want him to do it today, becuz she was getting ready to go to school and had on dress pants. HAH. Maybe now she'll get the picture.
20.
Did you watch it after they had areally sad story of a german sheperd in like detroit that had no food water or shelter and his hole body was covered with ticks I nearly puuked. People that do that kind of stuff make me so mad
I saw that....uggggh. Can you imagine how long it must have taken to get that many ticks?
21. Horsefeatheres you are the only person in the world who could turn devils advocate into a badge of honor! I wish I had read a thread like this before I went thru all that mess with Koda. Actually the girl at the shelter did help me bathe him before he left there. But he had enough dead matted hair on him for 3 dogs, and we didn't do a very good job. HE STUNK. maybe border collies have a b.o.? i think I read that somewhere. Anyway, i kept brushing and brushing.... so did the groomer..... TWO WEEKS of work and he finally cleaned up proper! And then he wasn't a sheltie any more, he was a bc.... So the moral of the story must be <drumroll, please> IF YOU DON'T GROOM YOUR DOG RIGHT, HE WILL MORPH INTO ANOTHER BREED. right? :D You can tell I am up past my bedtime; getting silly.
22. oh hey sash you can attribute others' good ideas to me any time  And ebby I'm glad you weren't offended at my silliness...sometimes it's better just to laugh, esp. when dogs are destroying the antiques and so forth. And... grumpy hubbys are a lot of bother aren't they?.... just put him in the doghouse, hon. After all, the dog doesn't use it, right?
23. Don't even try to figure it out, Horsefeathers.....just remain blissfully unaware!!!!
24.
Working hard to re-direct this behaviour.
I'm with ya there... I have worked so hard to get Koda not to jump up.... so today my daughter said MOM WATCH.... I thought she had taught him some cool trick.....she crouches down, and -- yep -- he jumps UP just the thing we have been trying to STOP FOR MONTHS. I didn't even bother to address it. I am so disgusted! :(
25. Ohhhhhh I don't know if baboon is quite the WORD.....he looks like.... :o You should have seen the little students as they each came in today  trying to figure out what exactly that end of him WAS. Hobbit, you've got the right mental pic.....you wouldn't believe how strong that little guy is....I assume that with such short legs you get a lot of leverage....or he was just so mad he became the tasmanian devil....at any rate my wrist is sprained, ribs are scratched, and chin is bruised BLUE!!! where he slammed me with his head! Who would have thought it!
