Oh! He is doing pretty well. He is walking (and running, if I don't call him down). He whimpers only occasionally. He's still on steroids and pain pills. I have not found the natural remedies yet, have had concerts and rehearsals  sheesh work sure interferes with one's home life, doesn't it? I have the name of a veterinary chiro who is about 2 hours from here... he was highly recommended.... trying to work out a time we can go down there. Thanks for asking!

Hey Hobbit, are you gonna call that dog Sissy? Or change her name?

Oh, the shame of bows in such a big-boys ears! [/quote]---> yep that's what I thought! I am pretty sure he was embarrassed! YES, and borrow mine, too --- they MUST go out at 2am to check on "their" goats, and then wake me up every hour thereafter to see if I'm awake and want to go check on "their" goats!
HAH! well I am smart you see. I do not have goats. So mine wakes me up at 1 (and 3 and 5) BARKING. GROWLING. SNARLING. BARKING some more. I get up, heart pounding, turn on lights all over cuz i am afraid of the dark. Go in the kitchen to look at him, he's laying there looking at me like, whaddaya want? He doesn't do this when a car goes by with a blaring radio, or when the neighbors make noise. So, maybe it is goat withdrawal.
On grampa's farm he had these HUGE yellow and black spiders......HATE those and don't know what they are but they were scary.
Gigi, if they are what I am thinking of they are NOT harmful. They "write" in their webs. I love them! My dad used to come over and always kill them in my barn, and I would chase him away!!!

Wow my Koda is so obviously a "working" look as well as herding-crazy.... no longer have a farm but now have the dog to work on it    Yellowlabs and Gigi....anyone who thinks they want a border collie, please borrow mine first! I would enjoy the break!!! the little darling is sprawled across my lap at the moment, wearing purple bows that the groomer put on his ears this morning
I know this msg board is about dogs, but it also happens to cats. Animal shelters don't let their black cats get adopted around halloween because of all the religioud stuff, so if you have a black cat, keep him/her safe during halloween time!!
I have a black cat. Last year, before I owned him, some kid threw kerosene on him and lit him on fire. He is scarred and almost has no meow. And his ears are only half sized. This year, some of the trick-or-treaters looked at him thru the glass and commented on "what you could do with a black cat" :o Believe me, he is *still inside*.
I can almost bet my four dogs <snip>
Newfie! No no! Bliss, you are right about one thing; we ARE lazy about typing out a whole story sometimes. At least I am! As far as the rest, I can only say... the person never came back so it looks like we were taken for a ride again, friends.

What Would You Do If Your Pet Was Missing?
corgilady replied to Carolk9s's topic in Everything about dogs
Well my previous dogs were tattooed, and like you said the hair grew over it and the skin darkened and stretched/ or something. So I didn't find it too effective. Now my boys wear collars with tags and I probably will have them microchipped. However when they get out, someone is IMMEDIATELY knocking on my door telling me my dog is out. This has happened twice and both times they acted like I KNEW the dog was out! Both of them were neighbors who must see me out walking them all the time! If you don't get your dog in the animal control is here in like 10 minutes. So if my dog were gone, the first thing I would do is call animal control. Then make flyers and put ads in the papers and on the radio. And take the others out to hunt for him. Heck, they still sniff out my ex hubby at the store down the street! Someone stole my aunt's dog once. She lives in a rural area, so the radio announcer was talking about it on the air. That night they heard a car in the middle of the night. Next thing they knew the dog was at the door! Apparently the person got scared after hearing it on the radio, and brought him back! This was a good topic, but not something I like to think about. :( -
My point is that not all shelties bark incessantly but it is like any other fault that some folks get their teeth into (like GSD are dangerous) we know they are not all so but bad comments spreads like wild fire and a another breed is branded .I know there are noisey sheltie but still maintain the owners are the main cause of this problem.
I think too that people tend to overlook a "tendency" of a breed.... they just think yeah, so-and-so's sheltie barks, but mine won't --without considering that it is a breed trait, that will have to be worked with. Or nipped in the bud, as it were. I have a friend with 3 shelties, they are the most BEAUTFIUL dogs I have ever ever seen. she brought them to a Corgi party and they sat motionless on their blanket while the Corgis went on with all the hoopla. I was VERY impressed. She is a good Doggiemama

:D Welcome Sam! So glad to have you....err.... aboard. Not only do I sleep with dogs, now that one of them has a back problem I am thinking about dismantling the bed and setting the mattress/boxspring on the floor so he can get on it better! Corgilady

OK I took him in (to the same office but the other vet) at 8 a.m. and they kept him until nearly 6 pm! They did several sets of x-rays. They at least have him walking now, and I asked for fluids to be injected as well, since he hadn't eaten or drank (drunk?) any water. He ate a little canned food there. He has 2 disks that are displaced, the fluid-y part in between them is bulging. He is on steroids, pain pills, and complete rest for 6 wk. They sent me home with the phone no. for a vet that is 2 hours drive from here, telling me that if he suddenly becomes paralyzed it IS an emergency,(like I dont know THAT) and I am to take him there and have a surgery that costs $1800. When this dog was born, his mother buried him. I dug him up and saved him , bottle feeding him from day one. He is like my own child. Except he is more loyal  Don't know what I would do without him.

 grrr this is my long day working....all day he has SLEPT. He came in the living room once and looked at me and whimpered. NO eating or drinking. We are gonna see SOME VET tomorrow a.m.!!!!! K, heat therapy sounds great, I am going downstairs to try it right now. As I have 2 "slipped disks" myself, I know how much this can hurt and have almost been afraid to touch him. My oranges are gone again, I thought no one had answered to my post!

Ok here goes......... yesterday I put Fella (3 yr old Pembroke Corgi) outside. I left him out for 30 min, then called him back in. Well all of them. The other 2 came (NOTE: KODA CAME IN!!!!yay!) Fella didn't but sometimes they like to stay out. I was a little surprised, because he was sitting out in the rain, but he's got a dog house and a covered porch. So I left him out while I was gone. Came back 4 hr later........ he was still sitting in the same place. He couldn't walk!!!!! The vet checked him over...and over....and over. said it's just a pulled muscle, and there is no need to x-ray as "I don't see any reason to x-ray". Every time he touched fella's left hip or back, he screamed. He gave him 1/2 tab of a muscle relaxer, and said give him one in the morning and at nite. well....fella has slept in one spot almost ever since. I got him up last night about 11 and made him go outside to pee, which he did. But now he won't move, just raises his head and looks at me. Unless he actually did move around yesterday in the yard, to eat and drink, he has not had food or water since the day before?????? I am getting ready to carry him down and try to make him at least drink some water. Maybe eat a treat! I haven't even given him the pill yet....sounds like much more than a muscle to me? does anyone have experiece with this?

Save a Saint? (please crosspost widely not much time left)
corgilady replied to a topic in Dogs in need
I keep forgetting to say, the reason I have not tried the citronella collar is that when I went to buy one, they told me that another dog barking close by would set off the spray! so he lives with 2 Corgis, plus there are 2 large dogs at the back that stick their heads over the fence and bark! I guess I could try it and see  . But I have a feeling it won't help. Koda gets this certain crazed look in his eyes, which means, I am not going to listen to reason right now. And he gets that look when he is out there barking. I even looked at muzzles; however, he'd find some way to get it off. If a choke collar for a week would do it, I could try that. I don't even care if he "heels' just as long as he DOESNT PULL. Sometimes after he has pulled on me, I have hand/arm pain and spasms for a full day. This is BAD, as I need my hands for work. AS far as the Saint, she said I could let it go to the rescue group, then contact them and they would tell me about her socialization and so forth. But i think I wont do it. Koda takes hours of my time. -

OK finally a message....here it is: Hello! Sorry I've really been dragging on this. I'm still very sick and unfortunately I've tried everything I know to get more information on this dog but I've come up empty handed. I'm really sorry. There's no way I can tell how she is with small dogs and there's no information about her in terms of obedience training (which I doubt) or socialization. She seems to be very sweet, but I know it's a gamble. After all this time, they can't tell how she is around other animals. I am thinking of letting her go to the rescue that has offered to take her. One of the reasons is that I am still having so much misbehavior out of Koda. I don't know what to do. I know some of you feel that re-homing him would be "dumping" him, but I feel like he is a square peg that I am trying to fit in a round hole. In another home, the barking wouldn't matter so much. or there wouldn't be so much traffic to bark at. Tonite I came in at 11 pm, and there he was between the houses, barking. The nieghbors had all their lights on, I am surprised they didn't come out and hit me. or worse. The girls had left me a note that they had tried and tried and couldn't get him in. ........... I don' t know.   I love Koda. He is a great commpanion, IF he is not allowed outside alone and IF you watch him constantly to keep him from cheewing stuff up. also, originally I wanted a dog I could walk easily on a leash, because of the pain in my hands. But he pulls continually, even with the gentle leader. So I have the ONE PROBLEM I was trying to avoid. I have been walking less and less, because he makes me insane. In addition to pulling, jumping, and trying to get the cars while we walk, he pushes between the Corgis (who are coupled togehter) and sometimes shoves the collar right off one of them! :o He does really well at his class, so everyone thinkks he is good. anyway sorry that was completely off topic....wehres' that sign..... but I had to get it off my chest. My head is hurting from trying to make all these decisions, and as you can see, i can't type striaght. SUGGESTIONS????????????
