I like cropped ears... Sorry bit I do... Ive said this in another thread but Ill restate it, I would enver have my own dog's ears cropped but if I could rescue a dog that already had them, that'd be great. I love the look of cropped and docked dogs even though I dont like the idea that it has no purpose.
An uncropped/undocked Dobe looks a lot like a Black & Tan, but narrower in the face.
Well you are right about that. An un-cropped/docked dobie looks MUCH different than one that is, almost like different breeds to me! :o

Ok well Ive watched part of the show like three times now but I keep missing the beginning and I want to see the NEO!!!!!! Although I agree that breed is going to be messed up by the AKC, just like some other breeds. I did get to see the AST and SBT. The SBT took 4th in group! YAY!!!

Adoption Day for Straydog was so fun today! There was three dogs from Straydog Inc, two from Angie's K9 Kids, and one of the volunteer's fosters who went home with straydog. Anyway, out of the 6 there 4 of them were pits. Three were close to full-blooded APBTs and the foster pup was more of a pit and GSP mix, still very cute though! :P The other two dogs were Bones a Catahoula (possibly a pit mix but who knows) and Big Guy, a newfie (or Great Pyr, but hes all black) It was sooo greeaaat having so many pitties around! YAY!!! :D I didnt have my camera with unfortunately. Sorry everyone! As much as I love pits, I have to say they are really hard to work with since theyre mixes and kind of... well, you know, you can have a pit thats pure and really good but mix it with another breed and it brings out the bad in both dogs sometimes... :-? Not in all cases but can happen. I had Josie most of the day and shes a HANDFUL!!! No wait I take that back shes a MONSTER!!! Ugh, I love her but she gets annoying. Barks like crazy at some dogs and whines when Tina (one of the workers at Straydog) leaves, and is restless.  Heres a pic of her from last weekend... Then Smokey was there who I absolutely love!!! Hes getting really big. We had him weighed today and hes 67 pounds!!! Hes so pretty despite him being hard to handle... Heres his pic taken a while back. Hes gotten a lot bigger since this pic.
Yeah I know Sassy isnt a cat I just said cat cause I had my cat in mind. Whoops. And Im just going by what my vet said. My cat has to be on a special diet the rest of his life because of his UTI. Sorry, Im not sure what else to say either...

Yup money can be a problem sometimes... but there are places that will do cheaper spay&neuter. Most of them require proof of low-income though.... Glad to know youre being responsible about it but please as soon as you can get her spayed!

Has anyone checked in on oboy kennels lately? Remember with RnP? Well take a look.... http://www.oboykennels.com Now Diablo and Rayne are on there!  This is making me cry... Im just so in shock about the whole thing still. Not that I knew RnP that well but just that someone on THIS board is actually doing things like that! Sorry to bring it up again but it was bugging me. *sigh* MODS: You can delete this if you feel its necesary! I dont want trouble just thought people might like to know...

Her profile looked almost like a dachschuand lol but since shes so big... Id say black and tan coonhound because the ears for one are houndish and she seems to be built larger unlike a dobie.
This list varies according to which part of Germany you live in so you can cross the street and your legal dog suddenly becomes a banned dangerous dog! Cat.1) American Staffordshire Terrier Pitbull Terrier Staffordshire Bull Terrier Bull Terrier Neopolitan Mastiff Spanish Mastiff Dogue de Bordeux Dogo Argentino Fila Brasileiro Roman Fighting Dog Chinese Fighting Dog Bandog Tosa Inu Cat.2) Akbash Briard Beauceron Bullmastiff Dobermann Estrela Mountain Dog Komondor Kuvasz Maremma Mastiff Pyrenean Mastiff Pyrenean Mountain Dog Rottweiler Tibetan Mastiff and 15 other European herding breeds The owners of these breeds must register with the stadt, and obtain a dog handling licence. Permission to continue to own one of these dogs will be granted if the dog has shown no evidence of aggression towards people, game, livestock, cats and other dogs for more than 3 years. The dog can only be exercised by a person over 18 years, and must wear a leash and muzzle at all times. Cat.1 dogs, and those who have shown aggression, cannot be bred from under any circumstances. My understanding of the regulations is that if you can show your dog is of no danger to the public, you may be exempted from the muzzle/leash requirement. Cat.3) Any dog over 40cm/20kg. Cat.3 dogs should be on a leash in built up areas, and will be moved up to Cat.2 if they show any aggression. We're going to have to wait to see what the final regulations are. from Angela in germany additional information As of 8:00 this morning, the ruling has come down early, due to the attack and death of a six year old boy in Hamburg. The entire country of Germany has officially banned the following breeds: Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Terrier. Those now in the country can be exported out. Any dogs that remain, must take a state run temperament test. If passed: spayed/neutered. If failed: euthanasia. If you are caught breeding or buying one of these breeds, a $50,000 fine and six months jail term are imposed. The Bull Terrier is on this list in some parts of Germany as well, including the Miniature BT. In other parts, the BT must pass the temperament test (which is 3 hours long and videotaped, at a cost of $500.00 per dog) If the dog passes, the animal may be used in a breeding program, as long as the breeder is a member of the VDH. If failed: euthanasia.

Today the county Hessen announced they will kill about 5000 "fighting dogs" soon... Of course there was no accident with one of these dogs in this county. In my county the "fighting" dogs are: American Staffordshire Terrier, Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bullterrier, Bullterrier, Mastino Napolitano, Mastino Espanol, Bordeaux Dogge, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, R

2nd one? Hmmm... I though once a cat got it it doesnt go away? At least I though... Anyway theres special food for it and antibiotics work to get it under control. Thats what happened with my cat.

You this reminds me of the whole pit and mastiff thing for some reason... So if these dogs (the fifth generation) are "purebreds" then pits bred for size earlier mixed with mastiffs (more than five generations ago) must be "purebred" too. Thats what I get out of this. Im totally against this experiment. Why? In order to get a bobtail boxer these people are breeding mutts into the world, which I notice it doesnt say what happened to the dogs. I would hope they would ahve homes arranged but you never know.... I mean I dont get why they want these dogs' short tails so much anyway. If it becomes illegal to dock then just dont do it, what difference does it make? Wont you still love your dog the same. I mean Ill admit that I like the look of a cropped/docked dog better than not but that doesnt mean I would have the heart to do it. I would still love me dog just the same either way though... It is an interesting experiment but dogs are not supposed to be for experimenting!
As far as Bobtail Boxers go, Dr Cattanach I believe introduced Corgi blood into the Boxer bloodline in order to get the bobtail trait in his Boxers...I remember reading about it a long time ago. The Boxer link on the site Amber posted doesn't work though so I'm not exactly sure I have my facts straight on that one....interesting idea though...
Corgis look NOTHING like Boxers so Im guessing it took many MANY years to achieve that! :o I mean you breed a corgi and a boxer, you breed the dogs from that litter with a bobtail with another boxer and them you just keep on breeding only the bobtails, right? I mean you would have to do that a lot to get the boxer to look standard since the corgis body type is so much different. Yeah, I definately dont agree to that experiment if youre correct Smooshie. Its interesting, sure, but do we really need to experiment on this adding more and more dogs into the world?

    This almost happened to me when my Uncle and his dogs came over. THey were curious I guess and dug out some cat poop!

Ok, I mean I know its fine to express your feelings about cropping/docking but thats not what the thread was supposed to be about... Its about people like me who want to know more about what breeds naturally have bob-tails or stand-up ears (or if not, then told its docked/cropped). Im learning a lot already... like Old English Sheepdogs and Aussies, I dont know that they could be born with or without a tail. So does anyone know the chances of a dog being born with a bobtail? Like with both parents having been born with a bobtail, is there still a chance some of the pups could have a tail? What if only one parent has a bobtail? Im guessing at least one of the parents would have to have a bobtail because Im assuming that trait is resessive.... am I wrong?

Hmmm, maybe that GSD did have to have surgery or soemthing, who knows... Yeah the other ones I kinda knew already but wait, pitties get their tails done? Not short do they? If so, Ive never seen one like that. Most sporting/hunting dogs have their tails docked halfway, dont they? Like the Weimeraner (sp?) you mentioned.
-
Ok so I was thinking the other day and there are a lot of breeds I get confused about when it comes to natural ears and tails vs. cropped and docked. Understand what Im saying at all? Like chows they dont have their ears cropped because they naturally stand straight up. And some breeds naturally have short tails so dont have them docked. So my question is kinda along the lines of what breeds have natural stand-up ears and/or short tails instead of cropped and docked. SOme dogs Im so used to seeing cropped/docked I forget if its natural. Like one breed I wonder about is the GSD. I have seen them with cone-ears... but I always thought they had natural ears? And Aussies, are their tails docked or naturally short?

I got what you were asking and I think Im the first who actually answered it. I still stick by my answer even if its wrong...

Heh, thats cute! -
:Dog_run: Alaskan Klee Kli. I hate to admit that I want one. I will not pay $1,200 like they have been advertised. I've owned a Siberian Husky, American Eskimos and now a Schipperke. The AKK are a combination of those three plus a Malamute. I think it's insane that people want that much for a mutt. I guess there is a sucker born every minute. I'll wait till one turns up in a shelter. Paula & Re-Run
Yeah I think theyre cute too  Sad thing is youre right... theyll end up in shelters pretty soon.

Blitz when K said up yours she was joking and yes you are entitled to your opnion as are all of us but you dont need to insult others to express that opinion which is just what you did.
It's OK if you like DMX's music ...
I suppose but I wont buy his music anymore... that would practically be supporting dog fighting! :o
