1.
Is it impossible that there has been a gene mutation to produce merl pits?
Thats what I wanna know. Kinda why I started the thread but I havent really gotten an answer. Maybe Ill do some research later on it.
2. Yes they are fads and NOT breeds. Thats why they arent accepted by the AKC or any other kennel clubs. It seems that breeders are just trying to get money or find a new dog that will please more people. Theyre trying to find the "perfect" dog when there is no such thing.
3. That bandana is cute.... but Jetta is cute-er! lol
4. Cassie brought up some good points. Your son could do unthinkable things to try and get his dogs back together. You know your son better than any of us so I cant say whether or not he would. X is only 4 years younger than me but at our age 4 makes a BIG difference. Although I would love to know Patti was staying with you, it might be best for her not to. If it wasnt for you having kids I would say try and keep her but children bring a whole other problem to the situation. But, uh, Cassie I highly doubt Free is showing dominance issues. Any dog can be upset when someone is yelling.
5. Oh wow that makes a big difference! I wish I wouldve known that before. Uh, you know I would give it a try. You love her so I think its worth a chance. Just I would try not having them together in the house, maybe on leash in the yard just so its safer for the dogs and you and your family. So wait and see how she does after surgery and then try it. Again I would re-introduce them on leash, outside. Good luck with that if thats what you decide to do! I too think its a little unfair to have dogs seperate but then I saw how my friend switches them all the time so they all spend time with the family. I think thats better than having to find a new home for one of the dogs. IMO I think its fair to do it that way because youre dog still has you and knows you love them. It may seem kind of mean but youre dog would do anything for you as long as it knows youre there for them!
6. There was a link to this on the site from the google ads. Platinum Kennels All of their males are merle and the females are mostly blues. All of them have blue noses except for a few. Another fad or what? Does anyone know how merle can be bred into a pit bull, like what colors can be bred to get it and does it occur naturally? I dont think it does but I have no idea. They are beautiful though, arent they?!?!?
7. You know, my friend (another volunteer) has three dogs and keeps them seperate EVERY day. Theyre all boys but two of them have dominance issues. She keeps one of them outside and in another room while the other two get free roam of the house. Then she switches it out and the two go outside and in another room while the dominant one gets free roam and time with mom. Is there any way you could do that? I mean, Pattis a good dog accept when shes with the other female, right? Just trying to help with some possible solutions other than a new home. And no youre not a bad owner at all! I know you feel bad but like everyones said youre doing it for the sake of your family. Youre a great mom, xavierandrea!!!!!! :D :D :D
8. I love Neos! All those wrinkles and folds and the saggy face! Drool isnt all that bad for such a cute dog!!! Aroura go get a Neo, you know you NEED one!  I want to own a Neo one day too... *sigh*
9. Arouras right! Gotta have a camera!
10. Poor Mutt_Lady or should I call you Sasquatch! K was just trying to show you what "fun" the river can be!
11.

I too dont' like the totally beefcake guys... unless they are BRINGING me cake  :D I have a really bad craving for Black Forest Cake right now
Now you've got ME hungry for cake Shara! WAY TO GO! :P
Got me craving for something too but its not cake!    Sry I just had to say that! 8)
12. Poor tummy but Im sorry I cant help but laugh a little. Zeb only wanted to be close to ya! ...I think it hurts when my cat jumps of my stomach, geez wait til I get a dog! :o
13. Today I volunteered (as I do every Saturday) and we had many bandanas for the dogs to show they were up for adoption. Some I brought last week and some one of the other volunteers brought today. (Mine were boring and hers were all-American stars and stripes. Heh heh. ) Pat, the other volunteer, wont be going next week so she had me take her scarfs home for her. We dont leave them with the shelter because they get lost and dirty. (Theyre a great shelter and everything just VERY unorganized, which is a pet-peeve of mine because I was raised with a perfectionist and neat-freak mom. Lol) So now Im home and I was going to wash the scarfs. Well Im so happy because the smell of dog in my house is GREAT!!! I kept smelling the bandanas before I finally put them in the wash.   I know, Im crazy but you would be too without a dog! Right DL?!?! Sry I havent posted pictures in the longest time everyone but my camera is acting weird and wont accept the batteries I bought. :-? Plus my camera isnt good with indoor pics only outdoors. I dont like to use the flash... it draws too much attention plus the picture looks weird then. Im picky about my pics!!!
14. I tell ya if I ever win the lottery, I will donate half of it to shelters around here. I know moneys a problem for shelters and I wish it weren't, Im sure all of us do. I dont think those tests should be a dogs cause of death though. NOR do I think its the answer. Sue sounds like an idiot to be using the hand so meanly and actually MAKING the dog react. Why would she want to do so though? Does she just want to make more room for "better" dogs at the shelter, or what? I dont get it.
15. I would definately spray the yard. Uh, Im not sure what products there are because, well, I dont have a dog so have never had the problem. If ticks got on you then I think your yard is FULL of ticks. Ive been plenty of places that had a lot of ticks and they never got on me. If you find more ticks on your dog I would get them in a jar and ask the vet about them because they could carry disease. Deer ticks often have lyme disease, I think but then again Ive forgotten because I havent read up on it in a while.
16. I know a lot of people around mr area that I know that have GPs and are big fans. Too bad they cant go and get him! :( I hope he finds a good home!!! :D
17. Wow, thats so great Shara! Coalys gonna have fun with you and that new tunnel. Thats cool you made a lot of your equipment too.
18. Personally I dont like most shelters. I know they are trying their best to do what they can for the animals but a lot of them could do better than what they are doing. I wish all shelters were no-kill and work with dogs to solve their problems instead of using death as the answer. I feel that the dog should be given a chance at training first before they PTS the dog. Overpopulation has causes shelters to PTS and I guess unless shelters get more money sometime soon then its neccesary. (  ) I wish there was another way. So the hand is "good" when in the right hands, but I dont think they need it. Most of the time the dogs tested are tied up or in a small room so that could cause them to react in a protective way. Someone said this before but I dont feel like checking who (Im lazy  ) but they said something like you dont need to use the hand, anyone can see by the dogs stance, sounds, and facial features that theyre going to defend their food. I agree with that. I dont have anything against using that (except that it came from the mind of an evil woman! ) but I still dont think you always need it. Straydog, the no-kill shelter where I volunteer, doesnt test their dogs but instead they work with them everyday to see what their personalities are like. Children of the workers there often come by both young and older so we can see how the dogs react. All of the dogs are fed seperately (except for a few who have proven for years and years that they can eat together) and at feeding time they can tell which dogs are food aggressive. Also at Adoption Days sometimes the dogs are given bones and we can definately tell who is food aggressive, like Louise the Akita/Chow mix. (Shes REALLY food aggressive! I mean REALLY!!!) They have NEVER PTS a dog because it was aggressive or shy. The dogs will probably never be adopted but they have a forever-home at Straydog. I think kill shelters should try to contact rescues and other shelters for dogs that are soon to be PTS and try to give the dogs a chance. I dont know if they do that already but it would be such a great thing. I know some rescuers go to shelters and get the dogs near death but I dont think shelters contact others about it. *sigh* Why does everything have to be so complicated in the world?!? I wish pit bulls didnt have problems, I wish no animal would be put to death unless they were in deep pain, and no dog was aggressive. I wish so many things but damn it all, its never gonna happen! :(
19. Oh Im SO sorry! I know how hard that must be on you. Youre making the right choice though, for the safety of you, your son, and all of your dogs. Again Im really sorry it came to this but its for the best. :(
20. You dont have to tell me that! lol Ive worked with some akitas, though they were mixes, still same temperment. I think they are GREAT dogs and I want to own one some day. Wait... I thought they were bred to guard, not hunt or fight? Please someone explain.
21. Thanks for explaining I had NO idea who she was either. Ooo I HATE those stupid hands they use! Youre right the dogs CAN tell theyre plastic so its completely different! Anyway, I dont know that much about her to say shes a bad person myself. Anyone have any links to some of her "work"?

23.
There's a very good photograph of a Jack Russell (or similar dog) lying spreadeagled in front of a desk fan. My grandpa has a card with this picture on it. It's a classic. :D I'm sure it must be on the net somewhere! I'll try and find it.
Oh I saw that pic too... In fact I have it on my computer (along with other dog pics) so if I save it to Dogo's photohosting site I can post it here. Its so cute! :D ...Oh and its really hot here too. I think it got past 100 today! :o Plus its humid so its REALLY bad. I HATE the heat!!!
