*hugs* you did all you could for your sweet Lily. She was just not destined for this world. Hows the little Whippet (diego?) doing?

Pet stores that allow dogs are a great place to socialise them. When Meg was a pup I took her absolutely everywhere so she would get used to all sorts of sounds. I actually used to practice my heelwork on the platform of the train station

The UK has boycotted cropping of ears always and a dog with cropped ears will not do good in the show ring against a dog with uncropped ears. I think its pointless totally cropping ears and see it very very much as a cosmetic thing that especially American people have just got to see as common practice. Tail docking I also disagree with strongly unless there is a valid reason and that dog is a working animal where it may be put into jeopardy and hindered by a full length tail. We have a boxer in one of the agility classes here and she has a lovely long tail that she wags non-stop.

That great news! I'm delighted for you and Candy :D

I used to use liver cake to train with Meg, but the smell is totally foul and really turns me so she settles for dry kibble that won't stink out my pocket. I can remember at Crufts 3 years ago I was in an Obedience comp and we were made to show our hands to the judge before entering. So many of the competitors had their hands rubbed over liver and were made to go wash them haha!

If hes happy enough on his own in his own surroundings then I would leave him and get your neighbour to take him for a walk a few times during that period. If he has severe separation anxiety then I would take him with you and leave the other pair with your neighbour.

That would depend on the type of competition. For agility/obed/flyball you have to have a qualifier or several points from comps throughout the year. For the breed ring you need to have a breed qualifier at a major or championship show or a best in show etc. In certain comps you can also get into breed with a certain number of points to get a "green star" certificate.

Unfortunately you have learned the hard way. This is common practice and probably your puppy didn't even exist with this fraudster. You should never ever send any deposit without seeing a healthy puppy and you shouldn't ever get a puppy over the internet. Good breeders don't have to advertise.

how to take a photo of a puppy

lol I read this before on another forum but its too true  -
First of all K is not from the UK. Second of all the basic rule around here is respect. We may not like what others like and may not like to hear others opinions but we respect them or ignore them and with regards to breed choice its each to their own and we respect that persons choice.

Pit bulls-a breed even cockroaches can look down upon
imported_Kat replied to Seijun's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
I think he is a journalist who sees the story from both angles. Extremely rare! He himself hates the breed; thats obvious but yet he is encouraging readers to keep an open mind which is good. -
How about loaning this person a dog for a weekend or so and see if they can cope with it. Someone who truly doesn't warm to dogs should get a goldfish or similar!

Usually it takes around 10-14 days of antibiotics for a bordetellosis infection to clear up. I would honestly get a 2nd opinion as puppy infections aren't good if they are prolonged and need to be sorted.

Definitely mainly GSD. Beautiful black and silver :D

Make sure that he is taken out regularly. I personally think its a bad idea to let dogs wee in their crates or any other part of the house. Too many owners just get used to lifting up newspapers after their dog wees and don't actually progress to outside or at least putting the papers by the door and this leads to an adult dog that messes in the house. He is only little and will have a small bladder capacity so you need to be in charge of taking him out regularly as much as possible and tell him a command like "hurry up" or similar when he is outside on the grass. Say this before he wees and when he is actually doing the activity. Give him lots of praise and tell him hes a good boy and he will crack the idea soon enough.

Stupid question about female dogs
imported_Kat replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Seij there is no sure way to tell but if the bitch has nipples that are enlarged and lax and if she has a slightly clamped in look towards her back with a fuller looking abdomen, then chances are she has had puppies. You can also sometimes tell by feeling their pelvic region but again it takes someone who has a bit of knowledge. -

I agree that a cross-breed should be registered with a KC on a working list and that is the case in the UK where there are several different registers for obedience/agility/working trials and the breed registrar is different.
