  1. wow that really is such a nice thing for Mr Pizza man to do :D
  2. She should be vaccinated as soon as she gets over this illness. The chance of parvo is far more probable than rabies as she would have to be bitten to contract rabies, but would only have to be where a parvo dog has walked in order to contract parvovirus. Make sure she is well hydrated and also offer her small quantities of honey on your finger as she may be hypoglycaemic which is a low blood sugar level. At her age and size make sure that her meals are frequent in small amounts. She should be fed around 4 times a day.
  3. Congrats! Are the tervs, groens and malinois all variations under one umbrella name of BSD? I thought that they were all separate breeds? :-?
  4. Paws crossed that Tequila will be back soon. Accidents hapen...it doesn't make you a bad Mum
  5. oh thats such a relief to hear that they are back to their mad puppy selves! :D
  6. A specialised rescue group is usually a better idea and will give the little guy a chance of getting a good home. Definitely don't foster any dogs at the moment BM. Your puppies are just getting over parvo and its a real risk to bring any other dog into the house right now and at least for another 4-6 weeks.
  7. I signed though its rather contradictory and ambiguous. Throughout the text it boycotts any penning of dogs and doesn't state the clear outline until you get to the end of the text to say what you are signing for. I disagree with using heavy chains for dogs, but tie-out lines are a useful tool if the dog is supervised. Pens are also fine as long as the dog has adequate food/water/shelter/shade etc.
  8. aww thats better that shes got it over her now. Give her a big Tiggy hug
  9. yikes I'm glad that Abby is fine.
  10. erf I really hope that it isn't a relaspe of parvo... You are right to be concerned given their recent illness and they definitely should be seen by the vet for at least a check over, if not an antibiotic injection as well.
  11. First off all its great that you are willing to learn about behaviour and to apply it to these dogs and help them get a home. Throught doing my degree and through wanting to apply behavioural observations, I have done a fair bit of work with both dogs and wolves. They are extremely different in their mannerisms and when confronted with various situations. Even the hybrids give a different response in comparison to what a domestic dog would give from most breeds in a given situation. Its very hard to "train" a wolf even by repetitive positive motivative training. Trying to ascertain the alpha position with a dog is more achievable but dogs are so far removed from their ancestors in some respects that when giving training seminars I tend not to talk so much of alpha roles. I think its more acceptable to talk of places. I don't dominate my dogs and i don't think that any dog should really be dominated. They are treated with respect and as a result they treat me with respect. There is a very fine line that people can cross when trying to control their dog and personally i see going over towards the domination side is a recipe for disaster. People aren't consistent enough and different signals presents conflict in the dogs mind and is usually manifested in a display of fear/neurotic aggression. Sometimes I think its better for dogs to be trained with a level understanding between dog and handler and usually that canbe done through motivational training. Thats just a few thoughts from me. if there is anything specific you want more insight on then I'll gladly give you some thoughts.
  12. Aww entropia is definitely better treated. My bosses partner had a chow that had to have this done when she was a pup, but her eyes turned out just fine. Good luck to lil Tigger
  13. Border collies are used more for hearing dogs than they are for sight dogs. The reason why they aren't used in breeding programmes as service dogs is because they are too intelligent and very strong willed and like to make up their own variations of what a commad means in some cases.
  14. I know what you mean. I chitter away to my dogs about anything and everything when walking them but perhaps not just as much when someone else is with me.
  15. I've never heard of this breed before. Look just like a rather large JRT.
  16. Can't wait to see all your doggies dressed up! :D
  17. lol way twilight zone
  18. paws crossed that you will be approved! Keep us posted! :D
  19. lol dogs and abandoned food are a definite mismatch! At Meg's first show she had done really well and I was talking to someone who was telling me how good she was in the ring. I felt a tug on the lead and an "oi" and my angel dog had started to tuck into the cream cakes on the refreshments stand  She had obviously thought she was very good as well!
  20. I'm a professional canine behaviourist so what I say goes as far as what is said between me and my partner and where my dog is concerned. When I do consultations I stress the importance of all family members playing an active role as mixed signals from various family members will just present conflict in the dogs mind. Dogs learn by simplicity and repetition through motivational positive training. Thats why all of the family should be giving the same signals.
  21. Thats great that you and Bailey are getting into Agility. Be warned... you will become addicted! American prices for agility classes are extremely high. In the uk our training averages around
  22. Those look like Weimeraner eyes to me. She is beautiful no matter what
  23. Doh some neighbours really do have the label of "nosy neighbours!"
  24. Your friend sounds like she will be kept busy  Its for the best though until you can get that ankle of yours healed up
  25. aww I hope she finds her family. It would be cool if you could post a pic of her; she sounds a really interesting mix :)
