Heya Nea, I've been working with Caelidh just from the end of September but shes so quick to pick things up. I've found out though that because I am forever qualified out of pre-beginners and beginners that I can't enter her in those classes and have to go straight to novice, as the Dutch share the same system as the English KC regardless of country. Its really silly! On that note I shall be waiting until mid 2005 until i enter her into her first show to be fair on her

haha told you it was addictive! theres no turning back now!!! Just wait til you start doing Agility shows! :P Brill result for you and Webby-man :D

New Letter Grading Law- What do you think?
imported_Kat replied to StarFox's topic in Everything about dogs
In principal its a good idea but I don't think they should have a grading system. A simple pass/fail approval would suffice and wouldn't let pet shop owners have the notion that running an unhygienic business is accptable. -

Just some interesting things that happened..
imported_Kat replied to Seijun's topic in Everything about dogs
I've seen a few bitches with pups regurgitating a meal when the pups stimulate her to do so. Old ancestry traits die hard. -
Paws are firmly crossed!
-
Sweet pup. Glad hes doing well

These adoption fares are just such a wonderful idea! Good luck Jeff and have fun  -
Thats great news to hear that you are moving along! :D

I won't even go to their site, because each time I do, I just get so extremely angry at the sick dogs that I see. A petition won't do any good at all if the authorities have failed.

Hey Nea if its for agility then do lots of road walking. This builds up the muscles nicely and plus its fun to do. I used to run with Meg along the towpath from Lisburn to Belfast which was 10 miles there and 10 miles back, and we did this twice weekly. So many people expect to do agility with just having a casual walk every day with their dog, but like any athlete its a matter of training...and that goes for both the dog and handler  With Caelidh I'm doing 2 training sessions every week plus 10-20 km hike (tomorrow will be 20km providing its decent weather). She needs muscle built up especially in her shoulders and hind quarters so we are working on that at the moment.

I remember seeing this dog too. He really is amazing :D

I just don't understand this concept of bringing a dog other than the one you are going to prospectively adopt. This dog may react differently to Maya than what Hogan will. At the end of the day the 2 dogs could get on great but whats important is that it should be Hogan that is brought with Maya and Jackie to a neutral location to see how they interact. Hogan may not get on with Maya even though the other dog may. I just don't get it why on earth they do it this way. In the UK when we do home visits we first check out the home itself where the dog will be living. After that the dog is brought to a neutral location with the adoptee's other dog(s) to determine how they interact and then the adopted dog is released for a 2 week trial (in most scenarios) to see how the dogs fare together at the actual house.

CGC testing question for breed specific test
imported_Kat replied to imported_Matty's topic in Everything about dogs
Caucasians are so rare compared to the other breeds so that should certainly be taken into account. As for being tougher on other breeds, that just shows that the tester is not competent and shows a bias. When testing dogs for for the kennel club good citizen dog scheme I have always treated each dog equally. The same goes for when I examined the pups and dogs at their behaviour exams on saturday. It is vital that when you do these tests that you are fair and that means teating each entity equally and using a yardstick. I would hate to see your friend judge a formal obeience competition. In obedience when judging you can't be harder on one dog more than another. If that was the case then all our judges would be crap including me! -
Puppies are real little wrigglers. Glad to hear that things are going better

Welcome to Dogo. Your chosen breeds are indeed lovely. I remember back in N.Ireland I taught a Leonberger in one of my classes and he was a wonderful big lad and went on to do therapy work in residential homes
