I would say that the the dog is a wolf hybrid, but the issue here is that the child was allowed to be with the animal when it was known that 3 weeks prior to being mauled, the dog had growled at him! Wheres the responsibility from the parents in that!

hehe thats what your dogs think of the election

Oh yes forget to add about the fish. Its better to feed fish that has been commercially processed and treated as wild fish do indeed contain trematodes(flukes) and cestode (tapeworms) as well as hookworms and nematodes (roundworms). These animals use the dog/cat as an intermediate host usually to complete their life cycle and can cause intestinal problems. It is not safe to feed a raw fish that is wild caught to a pet. I can remember in anatomy and physiology labs when we dissected salmon and trout and you would never believe the sorts of parasites that live within the organs of these fish.

TDG, the source of the tryptophan poisoning stemmed from the royal college of veterinary surgeons in london. It was around 5 years ago but several dogs were presented around the christmas period. First thoughts were drawn to chocolate but all owners had sworn that their dogs didn't get access to chocolate. It was then discovered that it was copious amounts of roasted turkey. I have access to research papers so I will look through the archives and see if it is there. I'm not trying to undermind you in any way by the way.

I'm FINALLY getting my home visit this weekend!
imported_Kat replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
I think that its actually rather unfair that you don't get to meet the dog prior to the home visit. Some people and dogs get on great and even though her dog may get on well with your dogs, the other dog that you want to adopt may not. Is this the standard way that it is done in USA? In the UK you go to the shelter pick your dog get a home visit then pending the home visit you get to adopt the dog. -
Good thoughts for Diamond this week please...

Happy Birthday Gohan! :bday:

apologies yes Tryptophan is an amino acid. I wrote that when I had had no sleep from the previous night thanks to our house mate. Thanks for correcting it, but yes in large quantities turkey is a danger to dogs as it contains high levels of tryptophan.

That was very strong and powerful... Thanks for posting that Pup.

Good to know the dogs had fun and that it was with a lure and not real bait

UGH! I hate to do this but...

Where do you even start to explain the RnP situation.... Basically he lied about having dogs stolen and said that he didn't breed but got caught out when we started to discover websites. There was just a string of lies that is still continuing. He even had the audacity to show up again on the board a few weeks back! Type in "Rott n Pitt" to the search engine and you will bring up a whole string of threads. -
yep me too. Its just a matter of putting in your name and password

When we go to shows and are competing in Obedience I always tell Meg what we are going to do before each exercise and what she is to do in great detail. She does understand  . When we go to Crufts after she competes she always gets an ice cream cone  -
Matty give over. Shar pei said what I was also going to say. Nookie: the dog is a living creature, not an IT!. As far as the playing goes you need to teach your pup how to play. Interact with her and wiggle the toy around. She may not play now and could need a bit of time to actually grasp the concept. Shih Tzu's are a breed with a very low stimulation for compliance.

Its good to get her checked out at this stage and it will put your mind at rest knowing the results and what treatment course to pursue. Good luck and keep us informed

I think this organisation is wonderful to publicise dogs needing homes and good for you for volunteering. I can tell that you get a lot out of it

No thanks needed.

onions, turkey (in large quantities), grapes, raisins all contain tryptophan which is an enzyme that can be toxic to dogs. Raw potatoes aren't good but cooked/boiled are fine mixed with meal.

Thats good news to hear that Candy is on the mend. As for the varying opinions thats vets for you! Just see what you think yourself and judge by the way she is with the stitches. If the paw touches the ground when walking its better to keep a soft bandage on the paw to keep it clean.

Chocolate and Zebra is not a good thing
imported_Kat replied to StarFox's topic in Everything about dogs
Yikes poor you and Zebra! What a day you have had together. Good luck with his diet and hope he feels better soon. I wouldn't have thught that he would have been near 92 lbs from seeing his photos! Thats just under 20lbs from what my weight is, so I'm really surprised, but just be strict and you will get the weight off no problem. Lots of brisk walking too
