  1. I'm not DO, but it could be any number of things really. It could certainly be her allergies that are causing the glands to swell. This is where all the immune defences come from when a dog has an infection. It could also be an impacted salivary gland but your vet will hopefully have a cancellation and get Gaia seen quickly to find the root of the problem.
  2. It sounds like it may be a gum abscess or a bad tooth. You would be best to get the vet to have a good luck at him to investigate any dental problems or lodged parts of sticks/bones.
  3. The Italians are all twats with their list of banned breeds  As far as I know, N.ireland, Southern Ireland, Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway all have bans on Pits. They are allowed (I think) in Luxemburg, Poland, Czech, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, finland and Austria. Hope this helps.
  4. Very cool, I think I will make Meg a page too. Thanks for the tip :D
  5. Definitely don't use adverse negative behaviour towards a stressed dog in a crate. A crate should be perceived as a nice safe haven where the dog should enjoy being. Set the dog in the crate and sit a little distance away so that the dog can see you. Ignore any barking or yapping totally and when the dog is silent and content go over to the cage and gently praise using your voice and a little titbit. Repeat this a few times and build up the time between when you leave and when you go back. Its important not to over-do the praise as this can get the dog hyped up too much leaving a big disappointment that will manifest itself in a stressed dog when you leave. Eventually you should be able to leave the room and have a happy content dog. Use a command everytime you put him in and this way you can prepare the dog for what is about to happen and this will then not be such a shock when he is left in his crate. It will also give him a higher sense of confidence and control by using a repetitive command. Good luck
  6. Zoe likes to do the pre-rinse cycle and lick the dishes in the dishwasher.one of the 2 wolfhounds that I petsit was fed porridge from a spoon and gee whizz what a mess that was. I finally managed to get her to lick from her bowl which amazed and pleased her owners, because they had tried without success!
  7. I got an entry form today in the post for entering the Crufts senior ykc agility and senior show handling competitions and I was like wtf? :o I haven't entered let alone qualified for any this year, but on further reading it appears that I qualify with Meg automatically because of being placed before and being high in the league tables still even though I hardly did any comps because of my finals this year. I just have to hope that the entry gets received in time because the postmark date is today but I sent an email to the KC just in case. Paws crossed! :D
  8. oh goodness Tammy this is a shock... I am so sorry to hear about wee Smudge. As the others have said parvo is so fast to overcome a puppy. Don't feel bad. *hugs*
  9. congrats :D
  10. error message here too :-?
  11. very cool idea 8)
  12. oh geeze i hope its just a simple coloform infection from bird droppings or similar and not parvo . Good thoughts going your way. :-?
  13. unfortunately there are good and bad breeders. The best way to find a good breeder is to get references from people who have bought pups previously.
  14. it is dependent on a supply of hormones which instructs the brain to initiate reproductive behaviour. Getting him neutered is the best solution and if done at an early age it will reduce the hormones by around 80% over a period of weeks.
  15. put one hand on the puppy's bum and slide a treat down under its nose and under his chin. When he is in the down tell him the command and praise him
  16. yeah its still morphine but in a very low cocentration and it helps to relax the irritated stomach muscles. You can't get proper morphine that would send you to lala land over the counter though
  17. I would think it would be good manners. I groom my own dogs but if the service was good then I would certainly tip.
  18. cool pics
  19. Male dogs mature from 5 months on so you need to be careful. Preferably have him neutered if he is not a good quality male to breed.
  20. This is a wee bit off track, but when I worked at the vets I made noodles for my lunch one day in the kitchen at the back of the surgery. My boss and his partners cats are allowed to roam free there. I finished my lunch and went back to work. I went back to the kitchen later and found Heidi checking that cats butts.. She saw one of my noodles that I must have dropped and was trying to pinpoint which kitty had the worms  When I told her she wasn't too impressed with me lol!
  21. Its possible that he could have retinolatrophy where the dog sees in shadows and finds it hard to judge distances. The best idea is to first have the et examie him thoroughly and then to take it from there. Obedience classes for an ESS are a definite good idea though as they are so highly strung.
  22. Dogs bodies are usually much warmer to the touch than we would think. Thats what makes them so great to snuggle with on a freezing cold day  . Seriously though you would know if your pup is ill if he shows signs of lethargy and sickness.
  23. imported_Kat

    Guess my mix.

wow what a change! I would have to go with wheaten or Briard mix
  24. aww Poor Taurus. Is the vet going to reassess the cyst when it dries or what does he think that it is?
  25. It sounds as if Bill is overwhelmed with the workload. Perhaps more charity events to raise funds for the shelter may help. The saddest thing is seeing a dog being returned so perhaps if the volunteers could teach the dogs basic obedience commands when they are being walked. It wil not only satisfy the dog but will hopefully have an impact on the dog when it goes t a new "forever" home.
