  1. I used to volunteer at the USPCA in N.I. I basically just called up and asked could I help out which they were more than willing to let me do. I also had my job at the vet and fostered quite a few furbabes through there from pups and kittens that needed handreared to wilder animals like foxes and hedgehogs and badgers. :D
  2. HF you are brill for taking her back. Whether or not you decide to keep her you did the right thing by bringing her back to a more structured and discilpined environment.
  3. DP its in a mixture but not actual diamorphine. Its given to children usually when they have jippy tummies and is a standard product that every Mum has in her medicine cabinet.
  4. As the other folk said, its better to see who Rowie chooses as after all at the end of the day she will have to be happy and have a compatable play mate. Good luck
  5. Kaolin and morphine mixture is great to settle tummies. I think thats along the same lines as pepto bismol that you get in America.
  6. with adult tapeworms though they usually establish themselves along the intestinal tract and are passed when the dog is given a wormer to kill the worm or to relax it (paralyse it) enough to detatch the scolex mouth parts and expel it. They give me the heebie jeebies totally :o
  7. Just monitor her and see how she goes
  8. Great posting! When I worked at the vets we wouldn't adopt out animals in the run up to Christmas. (My boss was very soft and kept stray cats/pups that were handed in). I can remember I was working one Christmas eve when a guy came in wanting a kitten for his daughter. I said no and he went berserk but I wasn't changing my mind and told him if he was interested then he could come back in the new year. Needless to say he didn't appear
  9. If its long with a defined head then its likely to be a nematode or roundworm or possibly a hookworm. Tapeworms are passed through the dogs body as little segments called glottids which are the reproductive parts.
  10. gee thats awful! You aren't over reacting at all. Shes neglecting the dog plain and simple!
  11. Court spend lots of time with him, take photos, give him little treats and generally enjoy him. I think you know in your heart that he is an older kitty now and with the decreasing health its hard to know how long you will have left with him. I felt the same way with Abby so I spoiled her totally. Sending positive thoughts to you and Pushyc@t.
  12. Neutering is the first question as intact testicles are responsible for a lot of dominance aggression. If he is neutered then you would be best to seek the help from a behaviourist and get tough with your dog. Let him know that it isn't acceptable. From what I perceive he respects you therefore a raised voice could shame him and put him in his place.
  13. Try speaking to the vet schools in your area. Usually ops like this are much less expensive as it gives the students some hands on practice under the supervision of qualified vet surgeons.
  14. They look like a great invention :)
  15. My friend Susan actually called me tonight from Texas because she is worried about me. She really is like another Mum to me  It seems that this freak talked to someone else about me and from the tone she seems to worship me and was talking non stop about what Meg has achieved at Crufts and in other comps etc... I'm actually a little more than freaked out at this point.. :o
  16. Poor Taurus! My bet is on a grass seed embedded in there
  17. One of my friends from Texas is on a sheltie board and recently they busted a woman who says she has a GSD, sheltie, lab mix. Recently she acquired a Border collie who has done wonderful in competitions... you guessed it! My Meg! She was using photos of Meg on the sheltie board the freak and Susan caught her on haha. Then she tried to say that it was me that stole the photos from someone else and that Meg isn't mine. Yeah right, she needs to watch the crufts videos for proof if she wants hard evidence  Now she has been lurking on another doggy board Just dogs on msn and is stirring up sh!t saying that Susan and I have a "special relationship". Shes right! we do have a special relationship but not in the sense that she is saying lol! You really have to wonder at some of these freaks!
  18. It sounds like she has haematuria, a urinary tract infection to put it simply. You need to get her checked out your vet as prolonged delay can result in irreversible kidney damage.
  19. Its your grandparents that are at fault here. The dogs know they can get away with blue murder with them and as a result see them as being more superior to you which is likely why Sassy is snapping. You need to either get a behaviourist in or get them to obedience classes and also you need to stress to your grandparents that if they persist in spoling the dogs that the consequences could be euthanasia if one of them bites an outsider :-?
  20. It sounds as if the change of environment is making her insecure to the poin that she feels wary of pooping outside. Take her for a good long walk on lead and give her plenty of time to do it. Also play with her and give her some treats to reassure her when outside. Don't give her the chance of going into your room to do her business. Keep the door closed and try not to leave her on her own where she has the opportunity to poop.
  21. They really should have started being weaned onto porridge/weetabix and puppy food at the age of 4 weeks. Wean them now. Take Mum away from them and offer them a flat plate of food. They will likely walk through it to start with then get the idea. When they are finished let Mm back in with them. They should be given solids 4-6 times per day depending on what size they are. Pups will usually continue to suckle off Mum and she will soon start to get fed up and want to have her own time. Remember to cut the puppys nails with cuticle scissors as she won't tolerate them scratching her.
  22. She is a really interesting mix. Very pretty and full of fun by the looks of it so hope she gets a good home soon :D
  23. The veggies is definitely a good idea with a wee bit more play for exercise
  24. Good luck! Rowie would love a play mate I'm sure
  25. thats one hefty sentence but every second will be well deserved! I hope that he gets his just desserts in prison
