4. Does it matter if they are called crossbreeds/mongrels/mutts/mixes as long as they are loved?
5. Definitely a Griffon Bruxellois
6. You would be better to just allow Clea to have gradual exposure to other dogs on lead at all times. Shes still very young and an upset now could lead to problems in later life. The most critical socialisation period is between 12-16 weeks of age when it has been proven that a puppy learns the most and retains this information throughout their life. If when she is older, she dives straight in to play fight another dog she may find herself in trouble and get bitten if the other dog isn't as friendly. Keep her on lead and let her sniff around the other puppy first so that she learns the correct etiquette and behaviour to display around another dog. Also use this time to build up the bond between you and her by doing puppy obedience with her just one on one, so that you are the most interesting thing to her for now and for when she is an adult dog.
7. Oh someone just has to be looking for that stud muffin! What a gorgeous Rottie he is and smart to find your home where he knew he would be looked after
8. Have you tried the Aboistop? Its a collar that emits citronella and is very good for dealing with barking dogs.
9. DO I dont even have a library in my city! They are currently building a new one that will be ready in 2006 because the other one which was about a million (50 ) years old collapsed :o
10. geeze HF thats one heck of a start to the morning :o Hopefully the rest of it will be uneventful
11. I can't think of a better place where a dog should be
12. This is copy and pasted from the training forum from someone who asked about the same thing. I'm in a lazy mood tonight so copy and paste is on the agenda! :P
When I am teaching my classes lead pulling is the most common problem that owners have to deal with. We start off by getting the dogs attention using food, with the dog always on the left leg of the handler. The handler steps off on the left foot and walks fast. If the dog isn't interested at all in food and is pulling way ahead then a fast direction change is done calling the dogs name. This is continued up and down the training hall until the dog starts thinking whoa I'm getting no where pulling like this, and the dog will then start paying attention to the handler to judge when the handler is going to make the turn. It then turns into a catch up game with the dog keeping pace with the handler to attempt to judge when the turn is going to come. This exercise keeps their brains active (both dog and handler!), and is a great way I have found to prevent dogs from pulling. The important thing to remember is not to support the dog and a tight lead, as this encourages the dog to pull.
13. Wow what an invention! I've never heard of the angel vest before but it really is a super invention from what I've read and has got to be of benefit to blind dogs. Thanks for enlightening me DO :D
14. DO I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to clueless owners at the vets where I worked. I listened to blatant lying when it came to wolf hybrids and pitbulls but some owners just simply didn't know what breed of dog they had especially if it was a rescued dog.
15. voted! hes in 2nd place!
16. At the surgery where I worked we charged
17. It sounds like she was trying to cover up that her dog was a pitbull. :-?
18. Tell them to keep the furniture in the same place and not to do any drastic rearranging. Squeaky toys or toys with noise are also very good for playtime. Using different textures is also a good idea. i.e. use a different textured rug beside the door so that the puppy knows this is where he should go out. For socialisation, blind dogs tend to spook a lot easier upon feeling a pat, so the person should use their voice a lot before approaching the puppy and to allow the pup to scent their hand then stroke the pup before picking him up. This is all I can remember from what we would tell people at the surgery with a blind dog, but if I think of anything more, I'll add it.
19. ewww picking up a cold poop is just something I find totally gross. Honestly I can pick up a fresh poop from one of my dogs no problem but if i pick up someone elses it grosses me out :o I always have a stack of poo bags in my pocket when I go to the park and on more occasions than enough I have offered a poo bag to someone who has walked off and left the poo on the grass. Usually though I get nothing but rudeness and abuse or total ignorance
20. Thats good to hear that there is no metastasis into the lungs. Paws crossed for continued good news
21. She sounds lovely and its great you are having fun with her
22. What way does the laser neuter work? Its the first time that I have ever heard of it so I'm rather curious now. Its still sounds an absurd amount though for a neuter I have to say.
