:o I looked up the spelling you gave at the bottom and it has something to do with Sea Turtles and Mountain Lions.........mostly Sea Turtles. This is one of many articles I found using Google..... A serious threat to green sea turtle populations is Fibropapilloma, a contagious, fatal illness affecting green turtles worldwide, but particularly those off the coast of Florida and Hawaii. Fibropapilloma causes bulbous tumors to grow on the soft tissue of the body and on vital internal organs; these tumors spread until they eventually cover the turtle's entire body, and the animal dies. The cause of Fibropapilloma is unknown, although researchers suspect marine pollution, a virus, or parasites. Green sea turtles in Hawaii have suffered from Fibropapilloma since the1980s, but its prevalence has greatly increased in recent years. In some areas, such as Florida's Indian River, nearly 50% of the green turtle population has been infected with Fibropapilloma. :( This is from another article..... Scientists at the University of Florida are struggling to answer some of the many scientific questions of these turtle diseases. After many years of research they have found that the most likely agent of fibropapilloma is a herpesvirus, but the virus has not yet been isolated for study. :o

imported_Debbie replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
That indeed was a "Kodak" moment missed !!! How cute !!! I was picturing that in my mind......... It reminds me when I was a teen I had a GshX (with what I don't know) and a hamster named Tom..... Tom got out of his rolling plastic ball and I couldn't find him anywhere....... I finally found him......Hildegarde was laying out on the sunporch with her front legs forming a corral and Tom was in there !!! Hildy was just cleaning him like a little baby !!! It was really very sweet !! Here's a pic of Hildy.......anyone want to make a guess ??? Her Mom was a full German Shepherd......Dad ????? would you get a new dog if>>>>>>>>&g
imported_Debbie replied to CKMILK's topic in Everything about dogs
Let the people say what they want and get the puppy anyway.......ultimately it's your decision in the end and only you can know what's right for your family !! :D Don't feel bad for talking about your Boxer, no breed is perfect or without some few bad apples because of bad breeders......it happens. -
:-? I agree with Lyn 100% !!!! Your son didn't get much better care than the dog did obviously....... :o I think it's clear by the way your dog is reacting that it was abused by "someone". :( I certainly would not recommend her for any kids, more like I think she needs a visit from Social Services !!! :-?

A questio for those of you with older dogs...
imported_Debbie replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
You've already got great advice and I agree the neutering has nothing to do with what's going on....... 4 yr. old is still young for a dog. My Akita/Rott was probably 9 before she really started to show signs of aging....and that was only a little arthritis. Good Luck with the Vet, and I hope he runs the appropriate tests for you !!! Hope Taurus is feeling better !! -
 I voted...... Scoobie is in the lead with 38% of the vote (129 votes) :D

Does this look like a puppy mill to dyou?
imported_Debbie replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
If she were an upstanding legitimate breeder why would she be selling her "nephews" JRT/Rat Terrier / ? X pups on her Purebred Pom site ? :-? Something reeks....... :P BTW, Great post K !! -
How/Why did you choose your breed(s)?
imported_Debbie replied to Queen Bitch's topic in General questions
 Once upon a time when I was a kid........ We had a Lab/Weim X named Duke, that dog followed my brother and I all over the neighborhood !! My Mom would always know who's house we were at just by seeing where Duke was. That also was his downfall, Duke got hit following us in our neighbors car. Then Mom/Dad decided to get a Boston Terrier, her name was Boots (I know real original..... ) Boots had 1 litter of pups and we kept one.....Skeeter. Then when I was 15, a German Shepherd in the neighborhood had a litter of pups.....the guy that owned the GSH was moving and leaving the pups to fend for themselves !!! So between me and my friends we found homes for them all and I begged my parents to let me keep one !!!! They said yes, and that was my first real dog !!! Hildegarde !! She was perfect, one in a million, never be another one like her !! Hildegarde !! When I married my hubby, he had 2 Borzoi; Meisha & Sersa Not big in the brains dept. but likeable. Meisha died of torsion and Sersa died of Cancer. That's when I brought home Nakita (Akita/Rott), hubby wasn't very happy about it, but I got her from some farm people that were going to take her in the woods and shoot her !! That's how some deal with unwanted pups.... I couldn't let that happen, so home she came !! She was my faithful, loveable shadow and companion for near 15yr. She tolerated kids, let'em walk all over her !! But she was very protective and very dog aggressive. I loved her so much, a part of me died the day she died(3yr. ago).........I vowed never to have another dog. Well 8 months later Sassafrass Louise entered our lives !!! Sassy is a beautiful JRT, she's fun loving, intelligent, loyal, and a real suck-up !! 5 more months go past and my daughter was looking at some Lab/Rott pups and I got suckered into taking Gretchen !!(sweet natured with such expressive eyes !) 2 more months go by and my daughter brings a kitten to the house (for herself) and ends up leaving him at our house !!! So....add Kato to the crew !!! Then last but not least......Jacks are like potato chips you can't have just one  !!! We see someone has a litter of JRT's and hubby buys me one for our Anniversary !!! And that's Maisy !! A bundle of energy, love, a real character !! She's velcroed to my butt 24/7 !! And everyone lived happily ever after ............. Now this is my list of dream dogs........ 8) Greater Swiss Mt. Dog Great Dane Neopolitan Mastiff Standard Poodle (I'll always have a Jack in the House !!) -
Gretchen my beautiful Lab/Rott goes to the Groomer once/month. She has very bad ear problems/allergies, and gets bathed, ears flushed, nails trimmed....I also get her the oil treatment for dry skin. She doesn't really have too dry of skin, but I get it because it makes her coat look so nice. The time before last I had the Groomer do "The Furminator" on her and I've never seen her look so sleek and shiny !!! Gretchie with her "Hurl-A-Squirrel" :D

Adopting an older puppy (5 months) found as a stray
imported_Debbie replied to a topic in Dogs in need
 Aww....J, good for you and your family !!! I'm sure with all the love and attention Buddy will get he'll come out of his shell...... He was probably really nervous and that could've contributed to his car sickness...... :P Maisy my youngest JRT was car sick at first......but I heard the only way for them to get over it was to keep taking them, they get used to it. I always went prepared with plastic bags, paper towels, and baby wipes... I'm glad to say she finally out-grew it !! Thank Goodness !! You didn't say what kind of dog Buddy is ? Post pics when you can !! -
HELP!!! THINKING ABOUT A NEW BEAGLE PUPPY READ MY STORY!!!
imported_Debbie replied to CKMILK's topic in Reading room
:D Court hit the nail on the head !! Personally the baying is a little unnerving for me :o ......but Beagles are wonderful pets !! I have a friend that had one growing up and now she has one she rescued from the pound. Great dogs.....also if not exercised they tend to become a little on the obese side...... The Beagle my friend got from the pound belonged to an old man who couldn't keep her anymore and boy was she over weight !!! My friend got her weight down and now she's doing so much better !! Sounds like you'll be a great home for a pup !! Sorry about your Boxer....... :( -
 Sue Sternberg is a fame hungry, idiot, who knows little to nothing about dog behavior...... :x She all but goaded that Cocker into aggression, and then of all the gall she takes the poor thing to McD's !!! All that was, was a big act to put on in front of America !!! Oh, look I'm taking the vicious man attacking beast for a last supper, aren't I nice  ...........GIVE ME A BREAK !!!!! :-?

Anyone know of a good way to get dog hairs off the sofa?
Sure fire GAR-UN-TEED method..... Sit on said sofa wearing a business suit or dress of a contrasting color. Make sure you are on the verge of being late for an important appointment. Hairs will instantly transfer to the seat of suit or dress.
alternative method: invite over some people who don't really like dogs (not that any of us KNOW such weird types...) and have them sit on the sofa. Not only will their clothes attract all the hairs already on the sofa, your dogs will immediately leap onto their laps and roll around, depositing all the remaining loose hair on them.
So true, So True !!!

When you were little did you ever....
imported_Debbie replied to __crazy_canine__'s topic in Everything about dogs
For me it was horses.....I loved them but couldn't have one, so I pretended to be one !!!  My daughter and her friends (8-9yr. olds) pretend to be just about everything....dogs,cats,lions,horses, etc...... -
:o I do believe Maisy can tell time........about 15min. before breakfast and dinner she starts to pester me......... Then when I do start getting their stuff ready, Sassy and Maisy follow me while I fill their bowls, Gretchen on the other hand couldn't care less and lays down and watches the whole scene from a distance. I put Sassy's down first, and then Maisy's (Maisy is a speed eater), then Gretchen's. Sometimes with Maisy I play a game.......I make her sit/stay , I put the bowl down then I say all kinds of words (except the release word) and you can tell she's going nuts !!! Then I say "O.K" and she digs in !!! Then she's done in 7sec. flat and she's over trying to stick her nose in Sassy's dish, Sass just gives her a little grrr and she moves along...... Then in the mean time I'm trying to cajole Gretchen into eating...... C'mon Gretch, eat your food !!.........C'mon Maisy's going to get it !!, Gretchen come on Eat !! Finally after she looks at what they're doing she'll wander over and start eating her food  She takes her time......then Maisy will lick everyones bowls (just to make sure nothing was left !!) It's like this whole little play we act out twice a day !!!

I talked to an Invisible Fence Rep before about having one installed. They do the boundary training with you and they do guarantee your money back within the first year if it doesn't work for your dog. I personally decided against it because of the 1st thing Divine said......does not keep other dogs/people out of the yard. So that essentially means your dog is still at risk from outsiders. :x Plus, my Jacks are so prey driven...if they were after a squirrel or something...they'd take the shock. :o

My groomer has never asked me for proof of vaccinations. :-? I would also like to know how Rabies is eradicated from wild animals ? If the UK can do it, why can't it be done here ? We've had several cases of rabies here in N.Y already this year. It included fox , raccoon, and a bear. :(

I think we have to look at individual dogs.....I don't think you can say a whole breed is the smartest...... I've seen very smart dogs of all kinds of breeds !! And then I've also seen dogs of the same breeds that are pretty dopey when it comes to the brain dept.  I've had in my life-time a Lab, a GSHX, Boston Terrier, and my JRT's and I can say they were/are all damn smart. But we've also had some Boston's that weren't, and some really air-headed Borzoi's !! And that's not to say all Borzoi's are dumb...... :) See what I mean ???

 Cassie, I think you need to go get one of those suits that the "guy" wears in the personal defense course !!!  Seriously I hope you're O.K now !!! Something kind of similar happened to me when I was out in the yard with Gretchen (my 95lb. Lab/Rott). I was standing in my front yard, Gretchen likes to run up onto our front deck and then come running down and just sniff around...... I had her on the Flexi-lead and I was just standing there on our front concrete sidewalk day dreaming while she was doing her thing, she ran up the front deck as usual and instead of just running off and sniffing she came running off and went right to the end of the Flexi-lead and I went over side-ways like a Redwood tree in the forest !!!!! :o I never slumped or bent, I went straight over !! I seriously thought I broke my hand and wrist. Called my Husband crying and he came home to check me out.......I smashed it pretty good, but didn't break anything. Now I pay more attention, watching her instead of the clouds !!!
