1. :( Sharpei girl, So sorry to hear about your Sassy..... what a nightmare this has been for you !! The good news is she's found and she's alive !! I've seen stories on Animal Planet about many dogs living with a leg missing and even one who had 2 legs missing and could still walk !! :o We're Pressing Paws and Hands here for your Sassy and You !!
2. :o Aurora, I had 2 female JRT's spayed, and I think that's a little more involved than neutering... and I paid $65 a piece. I had a country Vet do it because he was more reasonable being that his practice is right on his premises . I looked into several of the city Vets in larger practices and they all wanted over $120 !! A piece !! :o
3.  Shara, Thank you for sharing that...... it's so beautiful.
4. I just want to say ... I hope Roy recovers 100% from this and I admire his loyalty to his animals. I too don't believe the tiger meant to kill him, I think he could've been ripped apart right then and there, if the tiger had wanted to. :-? S & R love their animals and treat them far better than some humans treat their own young. :o Geez maybe they could adopt me ?? Get better soon Roy !!
5. :x Erin, I am GREEN with envy !! That is a beautiful fence !! I can sympathize with what you were going through.... because I still go through it many times a day :-? My Hub doesn't want a fence, he thinks we'll seem boxed in :-? ! I long for a fence so my Girlz can have the run of our property, they'd have so much fun chasing about !! :D He says :agrue: "Over my dead body" and I say "Yup, that's what your insurance money is going to be paying for when you die !! So start rolling now !!" LOL !!! :evilbat: Do you want to write to him and tell him how wonderful it is ?? Could you convince him ??
6. Thanks everyone, I was really second guessing myself all night.... My SIL was shocked :o that I said what I did, just because I usually avoid confrontation. She was pleased that I did say it :D !! hehehe I guess the lady just caught me off guard with her nastiness, :x and I just lashed back. I really don't take kindly to people criticizing my "children" Granted yes.... they could be better behaved, but they get sooooo excited when someone comes to the door !! And with all the hubbub that was going on I think they were even more amped than usual. It just our bad luck that we happened to have Elvira Gulch  on our doorstep....... :o
7. Fireworks are banned in New York State where I live. The only time they're allowed is on the 4th of July and after some of the Professional Baseball games at the Stadium. My dogs don't mind them too much either but when they first start going off they too go on high alert until they get used to it.
8. Thanks GoldenLuv for your support ! :D For some strange reason I'll bet Granny won't be picking up again !!
9. :( I have never agreed about the practice of chaining dogs to the outside or even leaving them outside for a good part of the day away from their families. I think it is inhumane and cruel. I do know that alot of people do it, especially people in the country. I don't know why they think a dog is going to protect them chained up outside, a dog can much better protect you in the house.
10. As some of you know I do Daycare in my home. Well anytime someone comes to the door you know they get the full fledged greeting by my trio of girlz (2 JRT's and 1 Rott/Lab) !! I would say 99.9% love them. Well one of my Mom's said they were going to have "Grandma" pick up the Child today after school... no problem.....WELL, I was having one of those days where everything was happening at once; Cable man shows up, phone ringing, Moms picking up kids, ect.... and of course this has got the girlz in quite a frenzy. Well Grandma comes to the door , I open it and of course the 2 Jacks start barking at her (she's never been here before, dogs don't know her).... Well Grandma freaks out and while I'm getting the girlz back into the kitchen she says" I don't like dogs anyway !!" REAL uppity like !! Well that just about burnt my bottom !! :x I retorted back to her that this was their house and if she didn't like it she could wait outside !! :o ...... She said "Fine !! I will" and went out. :P Do you think I was a bit too harsh ?? Did I go overboard ?? :(
11. I have 3 dogs, collectively they are called "The Girlz". I also have 1 extremely fat Orange Tiger cat named Kato. :D #1- Jack Russell Terrrier is named Sassafrass Louise We decided before we even got her that her name was to be Sassy, because it fit a Jacks personality !! I picked her middle name , because I'm always saying "GEEZ Louise !!" when something goes wrong !! She is called Sassy, Sass, The Snow Queen, Sasser, Sasserfrass, Snowflake, The Queen Bee, Raisinette (her eyes are so dark). #2- Lab/Rott named Gretchen Josephine I wanted a German name for her and her middle name is after my elderly neighbor lady (who preferred her, over my terriers) Nicknames; Gretchie, Gretch, Gretchen Josephina, Gretchie Wretch, Big Blackie, Blackie from Muskakie, Gretchie Doodle, Rottrador, RottenLab,Labweiler, Black Beauty, Snow White (Hair was black), Woosie girl. #3- Jack Russell Terrier named Maisy Mae. At first we were going to call her Susie Q., but my hub didn't like it..... so then we were throwing names like Daisy around and hub said Maisy and it just seemed to fit her. (she kind of looked like a mouse) and Mae just went with it . Her nicknames are : Maisy Moo Moo, Little Heifer (she has spots like a Jersey cow) , Maisy the Menace, Maisy Woo Woo, My Wittle Baby, Mama's girl, Stinky butt (anal gland problems !) , Wolverine (nails are like), Crazy Maisy, Snow Leopard, Geoffrey Giraffe (Toys R Us, she has Giraffe spots like him) , Little Wench, Miss Impatience :evilbat: Last but not least is Kato Kitty. He's an Orange Tiger cat , and when we first got him his stripes were so pretty he looked like someone had poured Butterscotch syrup over vanilla icecream, so we were calling him Butterscotch. But then he started getting a personality and we changed it to Kato....... From the Pink Panther movie. Kato was Inspector Clousea's asian houseboy and to keep the Inspector on his toes ....Kato would jump out at him by surprise and they would fight. HaHa Our Kato does that to all of us including the dogs !! And Kitty just goes with Kato. Nicknames: Damn Cat !! FatCat, Rotten Cat, Bigboy, Kato Kaelin, Mr. Stinkers, Garfield, Morris. Man !! Sorry that was soooo long !! I've probably left a few out, because I know my Hubby has alot of nicknames for all of them and even has songs he sings about them !! :o
12. DogPaddle, I hear ya about #6 !! :o Our Gretchen (Lab/Rott) just loves the laundry baskets !! (clean) I never thought about removing the laundry baskets from the living room before we'd go ...... and we'd get back and her laundry of choice is ; washclothes, socks, underwear, and kitchen towels. :-? She'll nab'em from the basket and then the 2 Jacks get into the act and they play tug of war with her "item" of choice !! :x We've come home to find many shredded socks, undies, and washclothes !! :o Now I've smartened up.... I remove those too !! (the laundry baskets that is !!)
13. They must of been knee deep !! :o
14. :o RnP, What a nightmare you're going through right now !! :( I sincerely hope and pray that you get her back...... Is there a possibility that someone just let her loose ?? I hate to think that kind of "people" have gotten their hands on her..... We're all Pressing Paws and Hands here for her safe return !!
15. I have lost 2 important dogs in my life; :( The first one was a dog I got as a puppy when I was 12yr. old. She was a German Shepherd X , her name was Hildegarde (Hildy for short) She was the smartest dog, she followed me everywhere.... my mom used to say she knew exactly where I was in the neighborhood because Hildy would be waiting.... She was well mannered and never acted out. When we would walk to the store for gallon jugs of milk she would carry one home !! She loved it ! She was also very protective of me and would put on quite the show if she thought I was being threatened. She even slept in bed with me and had her own pillow. She was a one in a million dog .......... She died of old age, she would've been 14 the year she died. My next dog was named Nakita, she was an Akita/Rott mix. I got her in 1996. She was my constant companion, loyal, protective of my family. I couldn't go to the bathroom without her !! I do Daycare and she was so tolerant of the kids , they could do anything to her and she loved them. The day she died was the worst day of my life so far.... she would've been 15 the year she died and she died in my arms....
16. Well here we go again, the ages long debate........ All I have to say is that I had a wonderful Akita/Rott mix for close to 15 yr., she was my loyal companion and protector. She was my constant shadow till her dying day, which happened to be the worst day of my life so far. I do Daycare for small children ages infant - 12 yr. and I'll tell you she was the most tolerant and loving dog to ALL those kids. They climbed on her , they used her as a step stool to get on the couch, they hugged her, they accidentally would step on her feet. Nothing those kids did to her bothered her..... and if my husband teased like he was going to "get" one of the kids (in play) she would play along and get right between like she was saving them !! Her only fault was that she was dog aggressive. I knew her weakness and she was never let out unless she was on a leash. People have to be RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS and know their animals strengths and weakness's. And NO ONE should leave a child alone with a dog, ANY DOG !! Now as for dog bites my Mom had a Chihuahua before my brother and I were born and that dog hated us :evilbat: ..... He bit my brother. We also had a Boston Terrier that bit another one of my brothers ears, not badly , my brother was only about 5 and when she bit him, he bit her back and she never bit again !! LOL (I'm not recommending that for anyone !! LOL) I think it was just a "kid" reflex kind of thing.....
17. I love Sassy because she's such a little Queen , so very refined and dignified acting and always likes to snuggle. I love Maisy because she's such a little vixen, always looking for something to get into , but yet she always wants to be the center of my attention ! Gretchen I love because she's just this big loveable lumox of a dog and she has such a sweet passive loving personality !! Yes and I too love the entourage that follows me wherever I go in the house !!
18. I'm adding my 2 Jack Russells and my Lab/Rott mix Shetland Sheepdog : 1 German Shepherd : 3 Keeshonden :3 Shiloh Shepherd : 1 Boxer : 1 Kelpie : 1 Labrador : 6 Mini Poodle : 3 Papillon : 1 Foxhound : 1 Standard Poodle : 2 Toy Poodle : 1 Lhasa Apso : 2 Mini Schnauzer : 1 Chihuahua : 1 Pit Bull : 1 1/2 Malamute : 2 Border Collie: 4 Maltese : 1 "Heeler"(Blue and Red) : 4 Samoyed : 1 Saint Bernard : 2 Staffordshire Bull Terrier : 2 British Bulldog : 2 American Eskimo : 1 Jack Russell Terrier : 5
19. WOW !! What kind of puppy is this tiny puppy ?? A crate should be big enough so that when the dog is full-grown he can comfortably stand and turn around in it . Until he is full grown you might want to block off part of it, because if they have too much room they will mess in it. Most crates now adays are pretty easy to assemble and take down. The reason most people use crates are to house train them and some even like the dog to sleep in there instead of elsewhere in the house. Personally , I was home all the time so I just used the crate when I was not going to be right there watching them. And I love my dog's to sleep with me in bed !! My crates are now used for transportation only. Never put the puppy in a crate as punishment and don't leave the crate in an isolated part of the house. You shouldn't leave any dog in a crate for more than 4-5 hours and I don't think a tiny puppy could stay in that long. His bladder wouldn't hold out..... And until your 100% sure of how the other dogs are going to be around him , I wouldn't chance leaving him alone with them and definitely do not house 2 dogs in one crate. Good Luck with Montie !! You're so lucky to be getting a puppy ! Ahhh..... the sweet smell of puppy breath !!
20.
Would Riley automatically become the leader because he is older? He's about a 1 1/2 years and Chaos is 10 months.
No, Riley won't become the leader just because of his age..... I have 3 dogs- a 2yr. Jack Russell, an almost 2yr. Lab/Rott and a 1yr. old Jack Russell , ALL Female !! Guess who's the top dog in the pack ?? The 1yr. old Jack Russell !! :o At first the 2yr. old, Sassy was the leader , but as Maisy (1yr.) got to be about 6-7 months old she took over !! And she does get snarly if she doesn't get the attention first !! Imagine 20lb. Jack Russells being dominant over a 95lb. Lab/Rott !! :o You should see that in action .... it's a hoot !!
21. The "Poo" at our house gets picked up every other day and right before Hubby mows the lawn. I am the only "Chief Pooper Picker" in the family. Everyone else in the family gets the happy part of having the dogs...while I get that PLUS all the dirty work !! :-? We have a pretty big yard and I've trained mine to go in a certain part of it. My words for them to go is "Hurry Up" and "Do your business"...... I also cannot stand people not picking up their dogs poo, :x and we have plenty of offenders in our neighborhood !! Not only is it unsightly , but I think it's also unsanitary for other dogs who may step in it while out on a walk and kids who may not be watching where they are stepping ! :x
22. Well I think majority rules on him being part Lab ! :D I definitely see Lab, I'm not so sure about what else he is, I'm thinking Border Collie too. And just because a dog is a mix, doesn't mean it's going to show strong tendencies toward both breeds. My Gretchen is a Rott/Lab and she is pure black, she's taller and heavier than a purebred Lab but she has subtle nuances of the Rottweiler..... so subtle you'd really have to be looking for it. She's a lovely dog either way. And so is Jake !!
23. Welcome Petter and fenstersmom !! All of us Jack owners out there think that Jacks Rule !! My name is Debbie and I'm owned by 2 Jackettes; Sassafrass Louise 2yr.(Sassy) and Maisy Mae 1yr. (Maisy), both are smooth coats. I also have Gretchen Josephine 1 1/2 yr. Lab/Rott and a big fat orange tiger cat named Kato !!
24. :o I've got a Lab/Rott that does this too !! I've just kind of thought it was her breed mix, having the Lab in her and all...... I still say "NO BITE" when she does it, she doesn't do it to hurt me, I think it's out of excitement. :-? I'm willing to hear any kind of advice on this.
25. :o I have a Lab/Rott and she doesn't like water either..... we have a pool and if the kids splash she runs and hides, she won't even put her nose by the water !! I was all excited thinking when we got her that she'd be a fabulous swimmer !! Ha Ha.... I guess the jokes on me !!
