Thank you all so much for your support..your are all wonderful  . Well we go to see a surgeon next friday. He will tell us what kind of treatment will be best for Zebra. But considering his age 1 year and 3 months, and how bad the HD already is. I don't think we are going to have very many choices. Our vet told us that if some kind of surgery is done soon (as in the next few months) arthritis (sp?) will set in and cause allot of pain. I don't want to have to put Zebra down in 2 years because he is in so much pain..I just couldn't. My vet also said that since Zebra's heart and other internal organs were in perfect shape, and since he has a great temperment that he should be a great candidate for total hip replacement surgery. I'm having a hard time dealing with this though. My mom and brother are very suportive but my dad isn't. At first my dad said sure that he has no problem with the surgery or the money..but then he talked to his freind who apparently is an "expert" on dogs. My dad's freind told him that the hip would have to be replaced every 3 years! That is such a lie! Total hip replacement is for the LIFE of the dog! His "friend" said that we should just put zebra on meds. Well that's not going to do much! Arthritis would still set in and the problem would still be there! God! I'm so pissed that my dad would take the word of his "freind" over our vets. This "freind" of my dad's was a vet assistant for a little bit but got fired (I don't know why though). Oh and get this! today I was outside with Zebra and my dad said "well if Zebra dies I'll go out and buy you a new dog." I told my dad "I don't think i would want another dog." so He said - "Sure you would, it's the best way to get over an old pet." :x God I realy hate my dad his is such an @$$! I won't be able to get over the death of any pet by getting me a new one! God! How stupid can my dad be?! And the thing is Zebra isn't going to die! I will get him whatever he needs to be better. If there is no hope in making Zebra better and he is in pain then I will consider other options. But as of right now it's a money problem that we are facing. UH! sorry but what my dad said just realy got to me. I'm considering going to a Holistic vet to get Zebra on a diet that might help him untill we get enough money for whatever operation Zebra needs. I think a good diet would help allot. HF-Thank you for the positeve info. At a time like this I realy need as much positive info and thoughts as possible. Once again thanks to everyone. If I didn't have you guys I don't know what I woud do. I love you guys. :buzi:

Oh thank you Abker..Your such an  . No money is needed, I plan on getting a job (if I can find one)...and I think were are going to borrow some money from some family members..but your offer is so sweet. One thing I forgot to mention..next friday (the 12) we are going to see a DR. Robert L Rooks. He is Chief of Staff at All-care Animal Referral center. He was recomended by our vet because apparently he is one of the very best in the state. This is the web-site. I would appreciate any comment on what you think about him and his staff. Thanks. I'm so upset. We went to the vet today so we could get X-rays done of Zebra's hips. See this past week Zebra's back legs kept giving out when he was running and he would fall down. So we decided to have X-rays done to make sure he didn't have Hip Dysplatia (HD). Well we waited at the vets for a half hour and got the results of the X-rays. Zebra has HD. In fact in has very serious HD. In the X-rays his right hip is perfect but his left hip is horrid. It's like there is no socket for his bone to rest in so it constantly slips out. It's just awful..I'm sitting here crying my eyes out because I'm so upset. This isn't something that can be fixed with simple medication and anti-inflamitories. There are three things that our vet recomended 1. Put him on pain killers, anti-inflamatories and other medications. But this will not work because eventually he will be in to much pain for any of these to work. 2. Reconstruct part of the hip. I'm not exactly sure how they would do this. But we decided against it. 3. Total hip replacement. This surgery should be done in the next 3 to 5 months. It is 95% effective and last a life time. We have decided to do the hip replacement. But the down part is it cost 5000 dollars. We do not have that kind of money..but somehow we will come up with it. Zebra is a family member and deserves the best. So as for now he is on Deramaxx, a diet so he looses weight and no strenuous play. ' Part of me is so upset and sad because of what we found out. ANd part of me is furious because I know that if people were responsible and neuterd there pets or didn't breed just for the hell of it, I wouldn't have to be dealing with this. Now that zebra has HD I am even more upset with BYB and people who don't care enough to spay/neuter there pets. I'm sorry now I'm off on a whole other rant. Well as for now my mom and I are the only ones that know. My brother is going to be upset when we tell him and..I think that even my dad is going to be devistated by this news. Thanks for listeing..your like my big dog family and the only ones I know that will fully understand what I'm feeling.

Congrats on your new Lhasa! As for determaning age..the vet would be the most accurate in telling you. And peeing, stance dosn't have much to do with age..my dog is 1 year and 3 months old and he dosn't lift his leg to pee either, he squats. Oh and by the way we would love to see some pics of Buster!!

Coutnek, how did you & Freebee make out?
StarFox replied to imported_Cassie's topic in Everything about dogs
How fantastic!!! CONGRATS!!! :P  Yea I can't wait for pics! :D -
Don't worry..Zebra has fleas bad too. He didn't have any all summer and then all of a sudden this past week it was like WHAM! Now He is itching like crazy! And just because Nostalgia has fleas dosn't make you a bad mommy...all dogs have had fleas at one time or another. But I agree with everyone elses solutions..a bath and a comb would work great untill you got her some flea meds. Good luck getting rid of thoes nasty little buggers! :P

DP- I was wondering the exact same thing. The odd thing is that I have seen this exact same post about Akita's attacking in 2 other dog forums in the past week. I wonder if it's the same person spreading this around? :-?

Hi! Nice to see someone else from California here! Are you adopting? If you are you can get discouts from certain humane societys for neutering. I know that at my vet a Small dog neuter cost about 110 dollars. But this can change depending on what vet you go to. As for licensing...I think it depends on what city you are in. You can get a 1 year license, a 5 year or a life time license. I'm not sure how much that would cost. You might want to call your local city to find out. I think the rabies shot was 20...and all the others were about 70 all together. Well good luck with your new dog...and don't forget to post pics here when you get him/her.

Actually I'm quite curious as to what dye they said they used. And no I haven't dyes my hair pink..it was blue/green but the same dye brand that they used. You can the contaier in one of the seens. It's when they are putting the dye near shay's eyes or mouth. I can't remember the exact scene.
-
In response to Lolita4Life- Actually the dye they used on Shay (the poodle) IS human hair dye. How do I know? I've used it before. In fact I used it 3 months ago. I can buy it at the local hair supply store. And I don't think anyone here said that Ear Cropping and Tail docking made perfect sense. I personally don't like ear cropping/docking. I prefer dogs to look "natural" or as natural as they can be.

Sanvean- I want to become a Cruelty Investigator for the Los Angeles SPCA. In L.A you have all the rights as a Cop, gun and all. Like on the show Animal Presinct. That's what I want to do. But I'd probabaly end up beting someone up for hurting there animals.
-
:o  What a *&^@!^!!! Sheesh! I can't belive some poeple! I had to applaud you for takeing your dog in and walking away. If it were me I would have beaten the guy with his own bike (literally, I have a very bad temper). Dang..If anyone were to touch my dog in an agressive manner I would not hesitate to kick the Holy **** out of them. Oh just thinking about it is making me mad!

MydogRoxy-Thanks for the correction. I Thought it was a Pitt but your right it is an American Bulldog. Beverlyhillsmonroe69- the problems I had with this woman dying her dog pink is : 1: she was ignortant to think that "that's what they were breed for" 2. the dye that they used was a very powerful dye that specifically says not to use on eyebrows or eye lashes. They were putting the dye right next to the dogs eyes. the label on the dye also says not to ingest. They were putting the dye on the mouth of the dog and she was licking at it. Another thing you said "there nothing worng with it cause its cute and everybody likes it and plus were iam from everybody dyes there poodle hair"....just because everyone does it dosn't make it right. and just because it's "cute" and "everyone likes it" dosn't mean it's safe.

I found this on-line while looking for information on how to become an Animal Cruelty Investigator. It's very interesting. If anyone here wants to become an Animal Cruelty Investigator this is a good read. :) (Warning: There are some graphic pictures on some of the pages). Zebra loves paper towels and Kleenex too. Just today he had 5 of them and ate some of them and ripped up the other ones. My brother always leaves them all over the floor (what a slob!). :x
13. The sleight of hand, fake-fetch-throw. You fooled a dog! What a proud moment for the top of the food chain.
Oh I could not stop laughing at that one.

Ok..I don't know how many people here have MTV or even watch it. But they have a show called "True Life" and this week it was "True Life: I'm obsessed with my dog". So of course I HAD To watch it..thinking I might get a good laugh out of it. Instead I was horrified. There were 3 segments one with a man who had a Pit and had his Pit sleep on the bed with him and his girlfreind sleep on the couch alone. (umm ok I don't know why any self respecting woman would put up with that kind of behaviour but whatever.). Then there was a couple who had a male pug that they wanted to breed becuase "he is cute". Yea...that's why they wanted to breed the dog. So they went around dog parks and handed out flyers saying that they needed to find a bitch to mate with there dog. (Oh what a fantastic way of finding a bitch!!! ) THey finally found someone who had a unalterd female but she didn't want to breed her bitch to the other dog because he was too big. Well they never did find a bitch for there dog to mate with (THANK GOD!!!) but they are still looking for one. The third segment was a model that had a white toy poodle. Ok this woman was beyond obsessed with her dog. She could not be without it..and if she did have to leave it at home or at the groomers she would freak out and chain smoke. Alright now here is the part that realy pissed me off..she took her dog to be groomed once a month. (now remember it's a white dog). So she got the dog trimmed and dyed...she dyed her dogs fur PINK!!!!! They hairdye they used on the poor dog was the stuff that I have used before! Humane hair dye. This dye has so many chemicals and stuff that I don't even use it anymore and they were putting it on a dog! So they put this Bright PINK dye ALL over this dog..i mean all over her. I was flipping out because they put it so close to her eyes. :x I don't know of any groomer that would dye a poodle bright pink. Then of course they stick this poor dog into a cage and put a heater in front of her because they have to heat set the dye. This dog was whinning and trying to get out of the cage and away from the heat. I was sick to my stomich. And the owner of the dog said "Well I know she dosn't like to be groomed but she was born a poodle and that's what they were breed for."..... :x  Ok poodles were NOT breed to be dyed pink by stupid air head models like her! AGGH! Sometime I just...uh! I just get so frusterated! Well turns out this woman wanted a play mate for her dog so she bought another toy poodle. Uh....ok sorry for the rant. I just had to get that out.

Oh a quick warning. If you put a long leash into the washing machine it might get tangeled around the center mechanism and rip or fray  . It's happend to me before so now I put all the leashes, collars and everything else into one of thoes bags that you put your delicates in. It works perfectly! :P
-
Oh what a wonderful story with such a happy ending. It made me cry. I wish all dogs could have a happy ending like that.
-
Awww! So cute and small...she was named perfectly. :P

I agree with courtnek. I'd definitly report them to your local humane society/SPCA. Because god only knows what could happen to this poor dog if left outside. it oculd be hit by a car, mauled to death. Better that you report them and get the dog taken away then have it suffer. Well whatever decision you make, I wish you luck. It's never easy to report anyone for cruelty.
