WHAT?! Raising the food dishes actually INCREASES the risk of bloat?! I thought it was the exact opposite. I'm so confused now. :-?

Wow...Zebra is afraid of almost all of thoes things you mentioned. Fireworks (the worst of all his fears), Unbrellas (thanks to my brother opening them in the house! :x ), arguing (thanks to my dad :x :( ), and the vacuum cleaning but he is getting better with that. Is Kavik afraid of the unbrella only when it is open or when it is closed to? maybe you can just open it and put it on the floor and just leave it alone and ignore it. And have kavik sniff at it. Maybe he will relize that it isn't so bad. DP what does Kavik do when he is scared? Does he run away or does he get agressive?

:P Oh how beautiful! Looks live they love it! And Zoey is getting so big now! :D -
Thanks for the info. I let him out about 3 times a day and sit with him and take his cone collar thingy off. He seems allot happier when the cone is off. This saturday we get the stiches removed and so he won't have to whear the cone again. It was weird today becuase i was petting him and he was growling so I stopped and then he kept pawing at me (that is his way of saying "PET ME!"). So I was petting him and he kept growling. So I think he is just a very werid dog. I think you all are right though. I think he is uncomfortable, he has never been in a crate then all of a sudden he has to be in one 24/7. I think he is lonely because he use to spend all his time with the family and now he dosn't have that. :( Poor baby I can't wait till he can have run of the house again. Not to mention that food is collecting on the floor under the kitchen table and there is no vacume to clean it up anymore.

Well we have been having some agressive behaviour problems with Zebra the last few days. Sunday he was in his crate and my brother was talking to him and went to pet his nose threw the cage and he snapped at my brother. My brother imidiatly said "bad! No!" and Zebra just lowered his head and that was that. Now my brother has pet him many times this past week and a half threw the cage so I thought zebra was just rather grumpy. Yesturday my mom let him out of his crate and let him lie in front of the stairs in my room (his cage is in my room). Well my mom was sitting on the stairs petting hiim and he snapped at her hand. My mom said "No" and kept petting him. Today zebra groweled at me when I went to put his cone back on. And just right now my mom took him out again and he started to growel at her but his tail was wagging. Then he just kept stairing her down and groweled. I keep telling my mom not to pet him when he is nasty like that but she INSISTS and pets his head! I always tell her that one day he is going to growl and just bite her, his growling is a warning and I don't think she understands that. He has not been the same happy dog ever since we put him in that awful crate. Could that be why he is acting all agressive with us? I don't think he is in allot of pain because I give him his pain meds every day. His tail is never up anymore, not even when I let him out to go the bathroom. He constantly gives me this funny look that says "I will bite you"...he use to have this look when he was a pup but I thought we got over all his agressive behaviour! This is so frusterating! By the way sorry about all the spelling mistakes, It's 2:30am here.

I am so sorry. This must be so stressfull for you and Becky. But I hope you know that you are doing everything you can for her and you are a great Mom to Sassy. Not many people would put that much time and effort into there dog as you do.

Sounds like they have a budding relationship. Isn't it just the best thing in the world to see two dogs happily getting along and playing?

I don't know what to say...I'm so upset that they put down this dog. I don't understand how it could have made a 180 degree turn around from being a freindly dog to being some vicious dog. When animal control came to take away the stray that i found (he actually found me), they put the control stick on him and he growled and bit at it and was not a happy dog. But just mins before the dog was rolling on his back wanting me to pet him. I have never seen a dog that liked having something like that put around there neck.
-
Uh late with my posts as usual! I CAN'T believe that they are keeping him in the euthanasia room! What the he**?! Of course he is scared, he is seeing and hearing dogs being killed! This is SOOO typical for L.A Animal Control! I have Never had a good experience with any AC officers, except for one woman who we adopted Zebra from. All AC officers here are mean and yell at the dogs, and are very rough with them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes ok this morning with his temperment test.

I agree with everyone here. If you cannot be with thoes pups 24/7 then please please please get someone else to do it. A good freind, relative. And please read Marebears post about her sisters dog who just had a pup!
-
Ok a few questions. How long have you had Dakota? Is he agressive or mean in any way? Why do you have a "bad feeling" about this dog? Can you explain that more? Why can't you give the Old english Sheep dog to you dad (since you just got her) and keep dakota? Does your mom and sister like dakota, are you the only one that dosn't like him?
I really really really want to see animal cruelty raised above a misdemeanor, and made a felony. Put their sorry asses in jail.... better yet - lock them in a room with the dogs they have injured, beaten, starved and abused, and let THEM decide.... :evilbat: :evilbat:
I would give both my arms to see Animal Cruelty raised to a felony! The sad thing is that even if a starved abused dog was locked in a room with the person that did it to them they probabaly wouldn't attack or hurt the person. Animals arn't like us (thank god!) and don't have that malice that we humans do. And as for tail docking...I personally don't like the way it looks very much on many dogs. Althought I do like the way Dobies look with croped ears and docked tails..but I would never and could never do that to a dog.
Glad to hear things are on track with Zebra  That Vet. surgery sounds too familiar to our prcatice , drama non stop (and thats just with the owners :P ).
Your right Kat...not stop drama. When we went to pick him up last week there was this man and woman who brought in a Mini-Pincher that got hit by a tow-truck. The dog had 2 broken legs, a broken hip, a head laceration and a bunch of other things. The local AC showed up and right as they were about to take it to a different hospital someone got ahold of the owners of the dog! Right at the last min! I'm perty sure they would have just put down the dog if the AC officer had taken it (Los Angeles AC is realy bad). But they found the owners and they told them to leave the dog at that hospital and to have sergury imidiatly. The man and woman who brought the dog in were crying and they paid for the imidiate consulation and some x-rays and a bunch of other stuff. They ended up paying 500 dollars for a dog they had found. But they said that they didn't want any money back from the real owners that knowing that the dog would be ok was enough. Sometimes people are such  .

Oh dang it! I was hoping you would know something! I'm totally lost, this dog has a home, they can't put him down! I have never seen a dog that didn't act grumpy with the contol stick! It sounds like the AC have a personal problem with this dog and just want to put it to sleep for some reason. :x
-
What? He wasn't saved? I'm so confued! Of course he wouldn't like the control stick! Does anyone have anymore info?

some people....this makes me very angry...

Hmm well I wanted to find some place where I could e-mail my thoughts on this. Like to a local paper or even the Zoo itself. IN my searching I found this...The Zoo's Press Release about this incident. :x http://www.brookfieldzoo.org/0.asp?nSection=10&nLinkID=28&PageID=1227&bolTitle=0 -
Oh thank dog!!!!!!!! That is great! I was soo worried! :klacz: BIG APPLAUSE TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED SAVE KILLERS LIFE!! :klacz: :buzi:

Today was Zebra's one week check up. SO after much fuss and confusion me, my dad and mom managed to get him in the back of the car. He was soo happy to just be out of his crate I don't think he cared where he went. Well when we got to the Vets it was PACKED! There were dogs everywhere! They have a huge waiting room and a smaller one. We sat in the smaller one where there was a Cavalier King Pup! She was soo cute and Zebra Loved her and kept wanting to play with her. Her owner was super nice and she said that she had the pup's brother and father at home. Of course I'm thinking oh god another breeder. But then she told me that they were all AKC registered, and that she showed her Cacaliers on a very regular basis and I was quite relieved. Then there was a bernese mountain dog X who lunged at Zebra and the owner apollogised so much but i didn't mind so much because we wern't very close and I can understand that allot of dogs there are probabaly in pain and wern't very socialble. We finally saw the dog and he said that zebra was doing great but the incision on the inside of his leg was a little inflamed so he is keeping zebra on antibiotics for another week. They took x-rays again and showed us and wow! His hip looks 100% better and the doc said that zebra's bones looked great and that's exactly the outcome they were looking for. So yea! We have to go back again next week so Zebra can get his staples removed and they are going to give us some exersizes for him to do. While we were in the Discharge waiting room there was this old man with this Old old old Boxer and he was at the desk paying and all of sudden we heard a loud thump (we were talking to some of the other people in the waiting room) and we look over and the dog is lying on the ground having a seizure!!! His body was shaking all over then suddenly he just went stiff. Like in 2 seconds they had him on a strecher and took him into the ER. The poor man was devistated and had to go into the bathroom right away. I felt so sorry for him and his dog, you could tell that he loved this dog more than anything. I guess that was the second seizure he had that day and they were about to go and then it happend. Thank dog they were at the hospital! Finally a few nurses and a doctor come out and call him to another room. I don't know what happend to the dog but I think they were going to keep him for tests or the guy might have decided to put him to sleep. I have never seen anything like it, I was shocked and horrified. One of the women we were talking to actually started to cry she was so sad. So that was my adventures at the Animal Hospital today. Sheesh!

K- I already asked my parents and they said a deffinite NO. but I've been thinking about this dog all night, trying to think if I know anyone who could take it. The only one I can think of is my aunt who has a not so nice Pit. But they have no crate or anything for the dog. And they can't leave the dog outside because it's been raining. I want to help so much I just don't know how! :x

Neighbors make me crazy...Rosebud may appreciate this...
StarFox replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
At least she was worried and she didn't call because she didn't like your dogs. It's funny how AC had to ask you why she made thoes noises. -
some people....this makes me very angry...
StarFox replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
 :x WHAT?! Oh makes me soo angry! I can't believe they shot the wolf! It is unexcusable to shoot the wolf. That woman was stupid and I would have let that wolf take off her entire arm! God! What a stupid stupid woman! Me and my dad have always wondered how people that stupid live so long. :x I wonder if there is anywhere we can send e-mail or something to complain about this woman and how she should be prosecuted for the life of that wolf. :x -
WooHoo! That's great! I'm so glad she is making such good progress! :P

I agree with courtnek, sometimes dogs need to just learn how to relax. But......do you buy thoes 12 pack of sodas? The ones that come in a box? Teach Coal how to rip them open. We taught zebra how to do it because my mom always opened them up. So he justs rips the box apart and the sodas fall all over the place...... :-? On second thought maybe you don't want to teach him that!
