1.
the only thing I would change would be that once he gave it up, I would praise and pet him, to reinforce good behavior. Remember, they dont remember things for long....if he gives it up and you praise him right then (even though you're still PO'd) he will associate being polite with good things... :)
 Umm yea guess I should start praising him instead of just walking away mad.. Sometimes I forget that I have to think like a dog to make him understand. Thanks for reminding me.
2. Well I do have some questions. Is the dog up to date on all his vaccinations? Does he get enough exersize when your brother comes home? Is he getting enough love an attention from everyone in the family? Is the dog being socalize properly? Is the dog being taught commands (i.e-Sit, Stay, Come)? If you have answered no to all the questions I think re homing him would be a good idea. If there are some questions that you have awsered no too then maybe you can work out something with your brother and parents so the dog will have the best quality of life possible.
Anyone know of a good place for Rosco in the Southern California, Riverside region? 8 1/2 weeks German Shepard Rosco
Please tell me that you will keep this dog because I swear I want him already!!!!! Oh soo tempting....GSD pup.....
3. :( I'm sorry Naomi. I hope your cat will be ok. I'll keep her in my thoughts.
4. WooHoo! Congrats! Sounds like she is being a wonderful mother! :D Come on now...where are the pics? I don't know how much longer I can wait!
5. Poor dogs. :( I realy hope this moron dosn't get any more dogs and I sure hope he dosn't have any kids.
6. hehehe can't help but laugh at the mental pic. I guess I'm one of thoes lucky dog owners. Zebra does NOT like to get dirty at all! If there is a puddle of water on the ground he will go around it. If a leaf lands on him he will come over to me and expect me to pull it out. I have such a prissy dog.
7.
Maybe he was more defensive because he was in an enclosed area under the table and felt cornered? You could try getting him out of there before you take whatever it is he has next time.
I thought that he might have felt cornered but I have taken stuff away from him like that dozens of times. So that's why I was so shocked/mad. I have tried to get him to come out but he just gets more agressive... :-? . *Sigh* I dunno maybe he was just in a bad mood or something.
8. We were making such good progress!!! Zebra has always had a problem with taking things that he shouldn't have and being agressive when I try to take them away. Well for the last two months or so he has been letting me take things out of his mouth or out from under him (he lays on things so I can't get them  ). He was not agressive at all and I realy thought we were making some great progress. Untill tonight when he got a wrapper for some food and ran under the table with it. Well I went under the table and when I tried to pull it out of his mouth he did this horrible growling and curled his lips at me. Oh I got soo mad! And I said in a deep stern voice "Do NOT do that to me!". Uh then he gets scared and acts like I'm going to hurt him or something. Then I feel guilty for being stern with him. I'm realy getting frusterated with him. He is such a schytsoprenic(sp?) dog! This dog is going to be the death of me I just know it, he stresses me out so much. :stupid: :silly:
9. :o That is a puppy?! Holy Moley that is gunna be one HUGE dog! I'm glad he is getting along so well with your other dogs! :P
10. I'm so sorry BK. *hugs* Run free at the Bridge little one.
11. I'm curious, what other methods of temperment testing are there? I know about this method, I guess it could be called the Sue Sternburg(sp?) method. But I don't know of any other widely used methods.
12. :bday: Happy Belated Birthday Coal!!!! :new-bday: :smilecolros:
13. Ooh I dunno how you can contain your excitement. I bearly can, I can't wait for pics of our new dogo member! :P
14. I don't realy care to be honest. But I guess that's because when I say "bedtime" Zebra actually goes to bed and falls asleep. He does clean himself durring the day and I don't care. Unless he is licking himself to the point where his fur is all wet and matted.
15. Mine is "probation" and "fine". :x When these horrible people who abuse animals ONLY get a fine of a few hundred dollars or a few months probation. Nothing on the show(s) realy upsets me or makes me sad, it makes me angry more then anything. I love Animal Presinct, that is realy the only one I like. But i do realy realy hate Animal Cops Miami....oh they are NOT cops they don't even work for the humane society. They are animal control officers. Did anyone see the episode with the two Rotties that were trained to be guard dogs? The one Rottie bit the AC officer TWICE! But they decided to try and rehabilitate the dog. I have NOTHING against rehablitating dogs at all but this dog bit someone twice so hard that there was blood. This dog was trained to bite. I just think that the dog should have been put down . It seems like it would be a danger to society to put that dog back out on the streets. JMHO. ANd has anyone seen the opening credits to Miami animal cops? Where some guy got a leash around a dog as the dog was running and the AC officer pulled so hard on the leash while the dog was running that the dog flew backwards in the air? God I just hate that show!
16.  Oh I sooo know what your going threw!! The first Christmas we had with Zebra my dad went to petsmart and picked up a dog toy. It was a dog dressed up as a soldier. Well my dad came home and gave it to Zebra and when Zebra bit it it played the most annoying, loud, high pitched christmas song! My dad had NO idea that it made any noise. Zebra LOVED that toy to bits and every few seconds Zebra would bite it and the song would play over and over and over....oy did it drive everyone crazy!! I would go to bed and in the middle of the night I would hear the song. Finally Zebra ripped the arms off so it had to be thrown away. And guess what happend? My mom bought him another one!!!!!! :o :x Luckily he chewed that one up too. Maybe someone can distract Chaos and you can get the toy and hide it. Good luck trying to get some sleep
17. Ummmm....I don't know is Zebra has a double coat. I don't think he does. :-? Another reason I want to get him groomed is that he gets allot of mats on the hair under his ear, no matter how much I brush him he is always getting a little mat there. And my mom wants to "groom" him....and ummm well lets just say that she isn't the best when given a pair of scissors. :-?
Okay, I'm not trying to sound pushy or anything, but please be careful about taking your dog to Petsmart to be groomed. My dad took his GSD, Cody, there and he ended up with some type of skin infection.
This is the reason I don't want to take him to petsmart to get groomed. I've heard too many horror stories about something going wrong. I know that at my vets they do basic grooming so I was thinking about taking him there. The vets and vet techs LOVE Zebra and Zebra feels very comfortable there, so maybe I will take him there.
18. Ok this question is for anyone who knows anything about grooming dogs. (HF, Cassie this post is mosty for you  ) Becaue I know absolutly NOTHING about grooming. Zebra has long hair...and very thick hair around his neck. And since it seems that we are getting summer very early this year (it was sooo hot today!) I need advice on if I should get zebra's hair cut shorter for a cooler "summer cut". His hair is about 3 inches long and I was thinking about getting him groomed so his hair is about 1 1/2 inches long. Would that be ok? he would still have hair so he wouldn't get sun burned but he would be allot cooler. So would that be possible? Or is it just a bad idea? And my second question is how in the world do I find a good groomer?!?! What do I need to look for? I'm tempted to take him to the Petsmart groomers but I dunno. He does get mouthy (he just puts his mouth on your arm but does NOT bite) when I try to brush him or cut his fur. I just don't want someone to put a muzzle on him thinking that he is an agressive dog, he would be soo scared if a muzzle was put on him. :( So are there specific questions I should ask a groomer? Or things I should look for to recognize a good one?
19. What a jerk!! I can't believe he accused you of abusing your dogs. :x I realy hope he gets serverly repremanded by the manager of the store and they all get lessons on how to treat customers.
20.
I don't get a lot of stupid questions except for "does s/he bite?" as the person reaches their hand out and begins petting Magic.
Oh my dog I get this ALL the time too! I've even had a dad push his little boy towards Zebra and command his son to pet him even though it was very obvious that the boy was afraid of dogs. Because apparently forcing your child to pet a strange dog will make him less afraid! :-? :x
21. Ok. Zebra has a problem. He cries when he gets a Greenie. Yes, he cries like he is in pain. He also whines and barks at it. And then plays with it by tossing it around. At first I thought it was kinda cute, but now I think it's just weird and maybe not that healthy. He takes the greenie in his mouth and whines like you wouldn't believe! Then he runs back and forth the length of the house carrying it and crying. :-? At first I thought that it had a sharp peice on it and it had hurt his mouth but nope, it's everytime he has one (he has only had 3). So is my dog just mental, or has someone elses dog done this before?! He does eventually eat it but only after an hour or two of this behaviour.
22. Well just the other day I was outside with zebra on our non-fenced lawn and he is trying to poo but a bunch of kids come racing down the street on scooters and bike. Well zebra is v. afraid of scooters, bikes, skateboards so I pull him back about 15 ft. from the sidewalk. The kids stop when they see him and are swinging there damn scooters back and forth and zebra runs next to me tail between his legs and starts groweling. The kids are like "oh a dog! Is he friendly? I wanna pet him" And start comming towards him. EEK!!! Damn kids have no respect for property around here, let me tell you! SO they finally leave after I tell them that no they can not pet him and no he is not friendly right now. We usually take zebra to petsmart on the weekend and people are always like: them: Oh she is so cute! me: it's a HE. and yes HE is cute. them: can I pet her me: Yes you can pet him! them: SHe is so soft! me: It's a HE!!! them: It's a boy?! :x  And we get: "Your ______ is so beautiful." So far I have had- Newfie (ummm ok! :o ) Pit Bull (because pits have long hair you know, ) Boxer (I can't even explain this one) Cocker Spaniel (maybe, if a cocker was 80 lbs!) Off the topic of dogs, we have had a vet tech think our rabbit was a cat! Never went back to that vet ever again! :o
23. Zebra's shedding never realy stops. It just gets worse durring spring time. I mean there is zebra hair in my food, my drink, my bed, my clean clothes, my mouth, the refrigerator and everywhere else. And no matter how much I vaccum there are always tumbleweeds.
24. Oops. The previous post was froom me. I forgot to log in.
25. Funny that you post this because as of right now I'm eating a peice of pizza and zebra's head is in my lap and he is whining because he wants the pizza SOOOOOO bad!
