1. Here are some links: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/pupvirus.html#Parvo http://www.vetcentric.com/reference/encycEntry.cfm?ENTRY=22&COLLECTION=EncycIllness
  2. I feed Wellness lamb formula. I really liked Canidae, but so did he - after it came out the other end. So here's what he gets and ya'll can tell me if I'm crazy. 1/2 cup Wellness dry lamb - munches on it all day Morning he gets about 1/4 cup of Wellness canned duck or chicken Afternoon he gets 3-4 sardines and 1/4 of Wysong Archetype - makes a lovely slurry. Then he gets a Greenie to conteract the sardine effect. He looks great!

    Another Poo Topic

Remember Kato's little problem with snacking on his own poo? I switched from Canidae to Wellness and it stopped. My theory is that he wasn't fully digesting the Canidae and it was coming out still tasty on the other end.
It is a "traditional" French-Canadian dish comprised of french fries (usually deep freid), topped with cheese curds and gravy.
I've heard of this, but I've never seen it down here. I have seen fries and mayonaise which looks pretty nasty. I like my fries covered in cheese and bacon with ranch dipping sauce - heart attack on a plate. Now I want to go to the Outback Steakhouse....
(I like Vegemite)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm having Marmite flashbacks! Help! Help!
  6. Newfie beat me. :D
  7.
The reason that most service dog charities as moving toward using Golden/Lab crosses (like the one I'm raising as a Guide Dog) is because they are healthier than pure breeds
This is such a myth. If your lab has hip dysplasia and your golden has hip dysplasia, you aren't going to get a bunch of healthy puppies because of "hybrid vigor". You're going to get a bunch of mutts with hip dysplasia. I got to see a ton of unhealthy mutts when I was a vet tech. Buying from a responsible breeder is the only way to lessen your chance of getting a life time of vet bills.
  8.
I did buy him green dental treats this weekend. BUt does that also make it runny?
It might. It might take him a bit to get used to them. Kato poops green, but he only got the runs the first couple times. They don't stink too bad though either - as far as poo can smell "nice".
  9. And the original poster wants to adopt a newf cross and wants to know what to expect. I think we kinda missed that and piled on the "hybrid vigor" person. LOL
  10.
It probably knows what I am going to say and is blocking me right now. It figures!!!
There are so many people on it that it gets a bit bogged down as the morning goes on. Weird isn't it? I love the BBQ Pit though. ROFL
  11. Personally I think a newf/lab would be weird.
  12. Anyone else want to try to educate the masses? After all this http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=171121 board proclaims to be "fighting ignorance". Just don't get nasty or you'll get banned.
  13.
They urinate and defecate everywhere
You're talking about cats here, right? :D The cats in my neighborhood love to dig around in my flower beds and poop and pee everywhere. And talk about the stench... Buh-bye troll

  15. I got it today in the mail. I can't see this stuff lasting very long so I'm going to use it in addition to his regular food. It looks like dirt in case anyone is wondering - expensive dirt. You can add water which then makes it look like wet mulch. Since Kato likes to eat dirt and mulch he naturally went wild over this stuff.
  16.
Tell them, completely straight faced, that your dog will only breed with one better looking than him.....say it's an ego thing....
ROFL I love it! :)
  17. This has just happened too many times now. Yes, my doggie does look like the ones you saw when you watched Westminster on TV. Thanks for the compliment. No, your doggie does not look much like the ones on TV - you said so yourself. The fact is your dog doesn't look much like the breed standard at all. No, you cannot breed your doggie to my doggie because he is "so nice looking"! Why do people assume that I will let their pet breed with my show dog?? OH GAWD I SOUND LIKE A SNOB. It's the whole callous attitude towards breeding that really gets me - nice dog, we should let them make puppies.
  18. I forgot about this post. His mom does it too - must be a family trait. LOL
  19. Yeah but you don't have a dog like Kato who practices selective hearing. I took him for a walk the other day, I look down and there is the collar laying on the ground still attached to the leash - about 2 feet away from the little dog who is now smiling at me. Uh-oh... I turned around and acted like I had something really cool that I wasn't about to share. Works every time. :)

    Dremeling nails
We used to ONLY dremel ours, but they scream so much that we moved to the clippers since it's faster and not near as stinky!
I did Kato's with the Dremel the other day and he preferred it much better then the clippers. I didn't think it was stinky, but I need to wear safety goggles because little chips fly off and go right for the eyes of course.

    shih-poo
There is no specific cut on it for a shih-poo. so no go.
That's because it's not a purebred dog. Shih-poo isn't a breed it's just a cutesy name someone came up with to help sell their mixed breed dogs. I guess if it has hair more like a poodle, I would clip it like a poodle. If it has longer hair more like a Shih-tzu, clip it like that.
  22. Re: The brick. Sometimes my aim is off and he doesn't move for awhile. I use this as an opportunity to teach "stay". :D
  23. I'm not big on them because they scratch around in their litter box and then climb around on my counters with their poopy feet. And don't give me that stuff about training them to keep off the counters - we all know they just wait until nobody's home! :) I think they are great in the barn though - they eat up all the meeces.
  24.
Looks good - still pricey!!
Sheesh, you're not kidding. If it disappears too quickly I'll use it as a treat.
  25. Try clicker training. It really works. There are a lot of clicker sites on the web that will show you how to do it. You could also try a Dremel. My dog finds this less disagreeable then the clippers because it doesn't pinch.
