Nah. He was just there. The judge apparently gave him a good look, complimented him on his ears, and then kept walking. His competition was the #1 shih-tsu and some other very high ranked dogs so there wasn't really much doubt we'd walk away empty handed. He showed really nicely for his breeder though, and she is taking him to a major next weekend. What I hate the most is when the judge says, "Very nice puppy. Reserve." ARRRGGGGGGGHHH!! :chainsaw1:

Gawd they are cute. Will all their ears stand up eventually or are they like Pappilions where some have up ears and some have them down?

Welcome back! :laola:

That's why I like my breed. Take a Shiba with a correct water-repellant coat, get him dirty, wipe clean with towel. Ready for show! (No, I'm not kidding. I hardly ever bathe Kato.) You gotta realize though that with some of these breeds, the hair-do is part of the show, and showing off one's grooming skills is a big deal. I have a theory that the reason you see Poodles take BIS so often is because the judges feel sorry for the handlers after putting in so much work! :P

Kato took the breed this morning, and beat out both of his breeder's other dogs plus a couple others. I was shocked, but it figures since I couldn't stay for the group due to a prior engagement. His breeder said she'd take him in since she was staying anyway to show some dogs for someone else. I will update if he wins anything in the group. Of course, now my house is dog-less and I'm kinda sad that I had to leave him there. He deserves the chance to go in the group ring though. Oh, and I finally got his picture taken! :D :D
Are there Shibas in colours other than reddish?
Here are some color examples. They also come in cream, but it's considered a fault. http://www.shibas.org/color.html

Here's a 3x world champion. I can see why they call them the Japanese wolf.

Wellness Lamb. I was feeding Canidae, but he liked it so much he was eating it when it came out the other end. Blech. He has a beautiful coat and is actually a deeper red now then he was before. I also supplement sardines and yogurt and occasionally some canned pumpkin. He also gets a Greenie everyday which keeps his teeth clean - they do work like they claim to.

I got it from the same place as the no-rinse: http://www.dogsoutfitter.com

They are very rare so it's hard to find much info about them. I saw them on a tape I had of the 2002 Nippo Championships (this is the biggest Shiba/Japanese dog show in the world.) There were a ton of Shibas, but not many Shikokus there either. Just getting one to this country would probably cost a small fortune. I think they are basically a bigger Shiba, and instead of using them to hunt birds, they hunt wild boar with them.

I agree with RusBulls..I mean Roo. :D

I use Biogroom extra body shampoo plus the Super Foam coat dressing. It really poofs him up. Another one I can recommend is Stazko No-Rinse for quick cleanups: http://www.dogsoutfitter.com/cgi-bin/sgin0105.exe?FNM=00&T1=190985+108&UID=2003051515133633&UREQA=1

I think I need a Shikoku to go with my Shiba. I don't think my hubby would agree though.

Well, it's the same thing as BARF - practically all protein.
-
It's really, really expensive and doesn't last long. It's also very high in protein and fat - 50% protein, 28% fat. He loves it, BUT it's just not cost effective and sometimes it gives him the runs.
-
So cute! I want Rose! When do they get their bat ears? Gosh, maybe I will have to order one from Wizard of Claws. :o
-
Yeah, I'm paranoid right now. I left Kato out in the house today since he seems to have gotten over his hormone induced freakout and has been a good doggy. I gave him a speech before I left about not chewing up my china cabinet and windowsills. He cocked his head so I'm sure he understood the whole message and not just blah-blah-blah Kato blah-blah NO blah-blah-blah-blah. Please be asleep, please be asleep...

Well, now let's be fair. It's not everyone over there doing it. (I don't like that they look like Shibas though - they are probably Jindos.)

Someone sent me this link this morning, and I've been debating whether or not to post it since it's pretty graphic. I think it's a pretty good argument as to why all animals deserve humane treatment whether they end up as dinner or not. http://www.koreananimals.org/dogs_p1.htm

Might be the food. I remember the breeder telling us to feed Pedigree canned to Kato when he was a puppy and OMG, was that ever a mistake. He gassed us out of the room one night. Next day he got switched to Wellness and no more poots. Oh, and add some garlic to the brussel sprouts and gravy - might as well go for the gold. :)

Oooo... and I just discovered that white Bassett Hounds and Yorkie/Shih-Tzus are "rare breeds". http://wizardofclaws.com/specials.htm Where's that gagging smilie when you need him... Ah, there he is.

Do you get these kind of prices for your Frenchies? They have champions in their pedigrees... somewhere. http://wizardofclaws.com/bulldog.htm (Caution, website may make you gag.)

It's beef tenderloin, you know - filet mignon before it's sliced into steaks.

I tried Marmite and had to scrape my tongue. (And I just got him to quit eating his own doody. There will be no doody on the menu, cat or otherwise!)
