Yeah, I agree. They are always happy to see you, never get grumpy or yell at you, never get sick of the attention (hmm well BK does but when he does he goes and sits in his kennel, or sticks his paw over his face in his "i vant to be aloooone" pose), and think you are the queen of the universe no matter what you've done. I don't have a dog purely for the ego boost... but it's nice to remember even if everyone in the world hates you your dog will always love you! :D

WELCOME Margaret! :D :D

Now I think this has been said before. Why do APBTs of today who are not being fought :x need to have that dog aggression? I know it is a breed trait... but...what place does it have now, when most Pits are not fought in the pit? I guess that for me, one of the best things to do with BK is to see him interact with other dogs in a friendly manner, playing, chasing and doing all that doggy stuff, and being 99% sure that he's not going to turn and bite someone's dog. So I am wondering- all you Pit owners, what is it that attracts you to the breed? Do you think the dog aggression still has a purpose today? I am keen to hear your thoughts. :D
I have two chihauhas (sp?) next door ont he other side, and they DO seem to think they rule the world...They bark at my dogs all the time, like they could DO anything if they ever met - it's really funny!
Kind of off topic. But the same applies to Dachshunds. They are the toughest dogs... THIS side of the fence. If Grandad ever gets another dachshund I will suggest the name Napoleon.

What is PDX? :-? Adoption fees for private parties are very common here. Only a few people will advertise their dog as "free to good home" because while there would be people like me who aren't fussed about paying a fee or not, people who can't really afford a dog would be tempted to adopt a dog and then be unable to have money to look after one, therefore the dog gets neglected or dumped. Also nothing in this life is free! I would be a little wary about adopting a "free" dog, who knows what expensive problems it has already either health wise or behaviour wise that the owners who were adopting it out didn't want to fix...? But having said that there are plenty of "free" dogs out there who are normal, healthy dogs and owners feel weird about charging money for an old/less-than-perfect dog. I don't know how many people would be interested in paying money for my dog seeing as he's almost 8, is crazy, and likes to escape. Not that I would EVER sell him but you know what I mean! Old dogs don't sell and neither do badly behaved ones. :( To me, it seems like Precious' owner is just being very stringent about making sure she goes to a good home. Maybe a little too stringent, but think of all the bad pet owners out there... and she's just doing what most shelters/breed rescues would do anyway. Good luck with her though!! :)

Heard all about it from ACD-L. Wish we got it here!! :(

Poofy I agree with you there. It makes sense to euthanase some of those dogs. It's certainly not the fault of those poor dogs that they behaved the way they did, but yes, think of all the evaluated, vaccinated, even-tempered dogs currently in shelters and rescue awaiting adoption or death and it makes sense. BUT the manner in which it was apparently conducted was abhorrent. Just completely and utterly *wrong*.

Actually, the more I think about it the funnier it is, dog karma. Blitz did nothing for two years but jump on Rinny at every available opportunity (and always got put in his place), and now he must know what poor old Rinny felt like to be constantly annoyed by a randy puppy. (though having a 25 kg blue heeler grabbing him round the hips was probably worse than having a 10kg dachshund grab your back leg.)
 Sasha humps Felony all the time... You want to talk embarrasing... How about having your lesbian dogs going at it in front of your soon to be inlaws!!!
  I am so glad Rinny and Blitz are over all of that. All we have to deal with is little sausage dog thinking he is a big tough Rotty and trying to hump BK's leg because that's all he can reach.

Both of them are very cute. Hollywood almost looks like a Lab mix, I think only because he's mainly chocolate. I have never seen a pic of a pit with that colouring (we don't have pits here so have not much idea what colours are the go apart from what I've seen on dogo)... I like it! :D

What a horrible situation. Poor little thing is sick and nobody to take care of her properly... Pretty awkward for you too Gooey? Seeing this person is a friend...? If your friend can't/won't look after her dog then she should really find someone willing to take the time to care for a special needs dog. JMO. 8)
bk: i've seen a chi/dash cross...actually, the dog was adorable....
Really? I guess it just sounds like a weird mix. But kind of makes sense, in a way, they are about the same height off the ground LOL. Better than a chi/dobe mix! :o
when we had Alice she could catch moths and flies in flight as they flew past her.
BK still does that though he has about a 10% success rate. When we were at our old house it had floor to ceiling windows in the lounge and he would lie at the window and bang the flies against the window to kill them. You always knew when he was catching flies because you could hear a big "clunk" as his head hit the window.

Kiwi, I think we have a similar rule, actually I think it is also 2 dogs per house unless you have a special permit to have more.

Hello and welcome Tyler :) please please please think twice about breeding your dog. Think of how many unwanted pits, let alone dogs, there are in this world. My advice is to get her spayed, you don't want to have to deal with genetically testing her and the sire, not to mention the possibility of pregnancy complications that could result in you losing your loved pet and/or her pups. Also the gigantic vet bills you will face with vaccinating and checking the pups and your dog after the birth, and extra if there are complications. You can *never* do too much research if you plan to go through with breeding her! At least you are doing it early (I assume you know that bitches should not be bred until they are at least 2 yrs old, if they are to be bred at all). Good luck with your decision. :)

Poor Hazel! It looks nasty. All the advice I can give it just to keep it clean and put ointment on it. BK has two small wounds on the left side of his neck and our only thought was he must have caught himself on something, because he hasn't got out and Rinny and him don't fight anymore. Anyway we put some iodine on it and some black stuff (can't remember what it's called but it's kind of tarry and works very well). Maybe just trim the hair around the wound to keep the hair from getting in the way and just watch her for a few days and make sure it doesn't get infected. She should be fine, hopefully, but seeing as I'm the biggest baby over BK I completely understand how you feel!

I would like to get a cat, but Blitz would kill it. :( Actually I don't know if he would, it's hard to tell if he wants to kill it or just play (I wouldn't let him get that close to a cat to find out!!!). We often see them when we go walking and once he lunged at this big black cat sitting in its driveway, it reared up and hissed at him, and Blitz got scared and backed off, the big wuss. I think if we'd had him since he was a baby and already had a cat, they would get along fine. But not much hope of introducing him to one now, I don't think.

*All* of us are only human, not just the police. Certainly we all make mistakes. I have never had a problem with the cops and they usually do a good job. But this particular department gives them a bad name. Kind of like the bad owners of ABPTs who turn their dogs into monsters and have allowed their reputation to sully.

Hmph teenage years seem a long way away for me and I'm only 23... :o I'd never go back though. It would have been sad working there. I can't do it without bawling.

blech... a Chi/Dachsie cross would be very weird. As for Peke/Shih Tzu... :o

I honestly can't tell you Yellow. You have room for her to run around. You take care of all your animals. You love them to bits. You want to do extra activities with your new dog, eg. agility. You'd take the time for your new dog to settle in and any "baggage" s/he came with. These are my presumptions. I think if you can do all these things (and anything else I've not thought of), you will make a great new mum for Daisy. :D
-
hehe, the way I know about it is, well he came from the Home so we were well informed from day one!
-
Tis a great idea Koolie which is why BK is registered with them!! :D :D If only they made it compulsory for all dog owners... I mean, it's free so they wouldn't have to pay anything and if your dog goes missing you're more likely to get him/her back!
-
 There was a Mastiff X who used to play with Bk at the park. Her owner was most impressed with BK's agile ways, because even though he was half her weight and 2/3 of her size he managed to pin her down a number of times... apparently she's a bit of a Romeo (Romette? Juliet?) when it comes to lovin' and also likes to pee like a man too. :D

I think the only thing that grossed out my dad enough to stop Rinny and BK going at it was when Rinny was doing the humpty on BK's head and BK was licking his pizzle.... dog porn, I tell ya. Not that they care, but it's a little disturbing when you're outside trying to have a nice conversation. :D
