1. Carol, he's not into toys at all  unfortunately. Sometimes even the best food doesn't work if he's really distracted. This mainly happens at obedience, he likes to watch the other dogs in the higher classes strut their stuff, ignoring me and my "drop" "come" "stay" etc. I might look into a clicker- can you get them at the pet shop? They taught us the "watch me" command, said in a higher pitched voice, and I practise it with him and it works most of the time... but in class he just gets so distracted.
2. hey, I am getting the old school "evil face" instead of the new one... anyone else?
3. I liked that Carol. What would you suggest for a dog who doesn't respond to food? eg. Blitz is not interested in food when there are more exciting things around (maybe he just knows he will always get fed by me because he is spoilt LOL).
4. Oh I am in love. I want a solid black one!!!!
5. yes, that IS a scary thought!! This dog is absolutely stunning; so not typically good-looking but has a gorgeous, unique charm. I'd take him home in a flash. 8) I can definitely see Rotty and Catahoula in there... to me he looks like a Rotty with splashes of grey and black paint on him
6. Yeah, it all sucks. I mean, I don't have a dog to act as an alarm system but I feel a lot safer with one around. I definitely would not deliberately use my dog as an attack dog btw, I wouldn't want him to get hurt. But also I know BK would attack, maybe seriously injure, maybe kill someone if I was being attacked. I would do my best to keep him under control so he wouldn't get PTS and I wouldn't get sued. Even though he was defending ME in MY house.
7. I wish we had AP here so I know what you guys are talking about!!! I've said this before: the media that deals with animals/pets has a duty to promote responsible pet ownership, because of their high profile and wide audience. eg. Don Burke the berk, nuff said. This does not include everybody letting their cat be bred to whoever's down the back alley and letting it have kittens left right and centre and perhaps not even being there to supervise the birth. Ugh. First against the wall come the revolution.
8.       I am so sorry to hear that, I know how heartbreaking it is to be on the brink of losing your boy. My thoughts are with you and Ben.
9. :D
10. Hey, just saw the link on the other thread. Kaiser is soooooooooooooo beautiful!!!!!
11. Before all this talk about insurance and dogs I didn't even know that you could get doggie-type insurance and that some companies wouldn't insure you if you had a "vicious" dog. What I have a big problem with (I don't know if this happens in the US?) is that here, if a burglar breaks into your house with the clear intention of stealing your stuff, armed or not, and you have a dog and he bites him, the burglar can sue you. How unfair is that.
12. I am always amazed at the stupidity of some people. Ignorance may be bliss but not for that poor dog.
13.
14. Bensam, sorry to hear that about one of your dogs. :( As you know Rinny has arthritis (he's on Rimadyl :-? and celery tablets I think) and had a stroke almost a year ago. He is on some type of anti-dementia tablets to help with his movements after the stroke, I think to increase blood to the brain...? Hydrotherapy is supposed to be very good for arthritic dogs as well. If you have a pool, lake, river etc. (are you near the bushfires? :( ) see how he goes with that maybe... good luck...
15. me too.
16. Love the doggy treadmill, I should get one for bk (and myself... hmm new year's resolution: get fit again). Training dogs takes soooo much patience. It can be very frustrating to see my dog, who is too smart for his own good, be stuck in the dummy class at obedience. He can do everything he's been taught blindfolded gagged and standing on his head. It's just he doesn't do it all the time. arrrgh. By Easter I want to get him to class 2... one step at a time... it's also hard now because I don't live with him anymore, so it's difficult to fit in time to practise everything. How long did it take you to train your dogs?
you are all wrong about american breakfast you know, the most popular breakfast over on this half of the world is a hot cup of black coffee and cold pizza from no less than 3 days ago, YUMMMMM :D
No way!!! Pizza left over from the night before (mmm-mmm), plus any dregs from the goon (wine cask), glass or bottle... :D Poutine- I like my cholesterol in bacon form... people here have chips (fries) and gravy but never heard of having it with cheese curds... is it tasty?
18.
by the way bk, thank you for the idea of the acdl thing. i didnt know about that group. do you know the website for them, or how to join?
Go to www.cattledog.com and there are instructions somewhere there on how to join the list, I'd tell you how to do it but I can't remember... Many people on the list breed and do rescue so hopefully you will be able to get in contact with someone in your area. Good luck!!! I really hope it doesn't come to getting rid of Kenzie though...
19. I think doing all that obedience/agility/therapy etc. work with dogs is amazing, shows how smart the dogs and the owners are. :D
20. Bk isn't into ice either. He used to do funny things with pasta though. Waaaay back when he was fussy, he wouldn't eat pasta but he loved the sauce that was on it, so he'd try to eat just the sauce but he'd end up eating the pasta anyway, it was hilarious seeing him trying to lick sauce off a bit of tagliatelle and seeing the whole thing get stuck on his tongue.
21. Byrd, I can understand that this is a tough time for you and sasterb and the dogs. I wish I could help but wouldn't have a clue where to start, I hope you can figure something out before it's too late. Another idea would be to join ACD-L, an email list dedicated to ACDs. Everyone on there is obviously into ACDs big-time and will definitely be able to help with rescue if it comes to that, and if it is a legally available option for Kenzie. It is not for me to comment on your personal situation but I think Egg was just drawing a logical conclusion from what you wrote, or maybe the way you wrote it. To me it is obvious you care about your dogs, but it's also obvious that that type of question would be asked.
22. good on you Egg!

No, it's pretty much unheard of here, that particular combination of sweet and savoury... Breakfast "brekkie" I think for most people consists of either toast with a variety of toppings (I like Vegemite), bagels, crumpets, or muffins (the English kind). A very quick and tasty breakfast is cereal and milk. If feeling energetic and not rushed you might have bacon and eggs with grilled mushrooms and tomatoes and maybe sausages (only if hungover IMO lol) as well as some toast, with a coffee or hot chocolate or orange juice. Or pancakes which we have with lemon and sugar, jam, or butter and maple syrup! Breakfast on the run is becoming more popular so you can get a selection of "breakfast bars", ie. bigger than average museli bars at the supermarket. Before school in the mornings Dad would wake me up by sending BK in to annoy me, he'd lick my face a few times and snuggle up beside me, so Dad would come in and find both of us asleep. He then started bringing me in a coffee. :D
25.
Our three labs love to pick thier own blackberries when we go out for walks, they never eat the green or red ones always the black, even our 6 month old seems to know the difference. other walkers can't believe what they see.
My aunt's Beagles were like that with these two balls they had as puppies. One was red and one was blue, they went for the red one every time, no matter who was playing with what. Don't ask me why!
