1. Welcome Seven 8)
2. Yay! Shaq (named after the basketballer) was picked up at 5.30pm by his very worried owner. All is good.
3. thanks Ickle hope your New Year's was good too. :) I saw some of the fireworks on the tv and we made our own out of steel wool and string (don't ask)  and of course there were people at the nearby parks letting off more illegal fireworks.
4. This is GREAT and all too true. I have a slightly Australianised version on my fridge.
5. Very early this morning during our New Year's celebrations at "the mansion" we had an unexpected surprise: an old male Border Collie turned up and started joining in the fun. We think he must have run off from his house because of the fireworks nearby. He was SOOOO cute, he'd recently been washed because I could smell the flea shampoo on him, physically healthy (his big teeth were as worn down as Rinny's though, he must be at least 10), and he was obedience trained- sit, drop, stay, come, and shake hands :) He had tags but not a nametag and was still hanging around 24 hours later (I've just got home). The Home (ie shelter) isn't open until 10am tomorrow morning so there's not much we could do but keep an eye on him. He had some leftovers and a bowl of water, but couldn't come in because of the cat- don't think she'd take too kindly to him. When I left he was sleeping on the balcony. I hope he's still there in the morning and it all gets sorted out. He's obviously not a stray but I can't help feeling anxious for him. I would have stayed there but I have to work tomorrow morning. My friend is going to call the Home in the morning and report him found. I hope everything turns out ok, I imagine they deal with a lot of firework-scared pets. There must be a family out there who's missing him... I hope... I can't help feeling responsible for him even though he's not my dog and I'm not even at the same house now... :-?
6. Ack, sorry to be so late but what a horrible thing to have happen to Guy. I hope everything turns out for the best and I know you'll do what you have to do to make sure he gets through this as kindly as possible.
7. yeah, I can sympathise. I slept for 12 hours today and I still have a headache. :-?
8. hmmmm I think someone needs to teach your mates new pickup lines!
9. I've seen that site before and I'm NOT going back to it.  I believe that in Japan they "torture" ie. slowly kill some sea creatures so the meat tastes sweeter. I can't remember which ones though. Halal killings of cattle etc are done by slitting the cow's throat, it's not meant to be painful to have your throat cut- kind of like floating away- but the idea of it makes me feel ill, and as I'm not a bovine and I've never had my throat cut I couldn't tell you what it's like, but it sounds torturous.
10. I'm so sorry to hear that Koolie. You are doing a very selfless thing for your girl  Wish there was more I could say- words are kind of inadequate- but I'll be thinking of you.
11.
I've never had the one that I wanted to hear which is, "You're such a beautiful lady that I'm going to give you my American Express card which has no limit and take you to the mall where you can shop all day without my complaining!"
That's the one I want, without having to resort to streetwalking  :D

Breeding

Great post Alicat, exactly the right analogy to use :D Believe it or not people have asked me whether BK could be used as a father!!!!!! he is a mutt for chrissakes and a neutered one at that!!!!! :x
13. I hope it's just a rumour as well. If it's not then we can protest it! :evilbat:
14. LOL! Good luck!! :P erk- men...
15. K, I couldn't have scripted a better pickup line myself. Is that man now your bikie hubby? I fell for this one last year, went something like this: "Apparently women can make up their minds in ten minutes whether or not they want to sleep with a guy, and it only takes guys two minutes. *suggestive eyebrow raise*" It worked- we went out for nine months
16. :( poor possums, birds, wallabies etc. Exploitation is unfortunately not a rarity when it comes to ratings and so forth.
17. Hobbit, I think Dodger was referring to Australian Terriers- they kind of look like a Yorkshire Terrier but not as silky. We don't have many, if any, Australian Shepherds here which is kind of funny!
18. I wish I spoke Dutch. Unfortunately when my great-grandparents came out on the boat they decided to immerse themselves completely in Anglo culture and never spoke much Dutch at all afterwards. I can understand why- racism and trying to fit in would have been horrible especially in a little Aussie country town- but I wish the language could have been passed down. :(
19. I don't know how small he is and I don't want to know, he's so feral! We all spent our band breaks playing with the puppy! 8) but it wouldn't surprise me if he was hung like my little finger. Oh I am so superficial.
20. I have also met many small dogs that have felt they have something to prove while most of the big dogs I've met have been fairly easygoing. This is only in my own experience and I don't speak for everyone. It's very sad that this was allowed to happen. Irresponsible people should not be allowed to have dogs. Any fool knows dachshunds aren't the greatest dogs around kids (though I have never had any problems with them myself) and no child should be left unsupervised around dogs. No excuses. These people lost their dog, their child has serious injuries and it's mainly their own fault. I don't know if legislation is going to make people any smarter. I wonder if this couple thought about what effect the dog would have on the baby and vice versa, whichever came first- having pets or children is a huge decision and everything should be planned out and these sorts of incidents can happen, and that has to be factored in. I don't care what breed the dog is, if it's not taught to be socialised around children of all ages it's not going to know what's acceptable and what isn't. There are SOME dogs that are just wired wrong- but only a tiny percentage. The rest of it is up to us and we have that responsiblity to our pets because they can't do it themselves.
21. I once knew a publican who used to be a jockey, our band used to play at his pub. He had a Rotty puppy who was absolutely beautiful, and a BMW Z3 Roadster (convertible). He was still an arrogant twit and short to boot.  (when is chat coming??? :P )
22.
I'd like to stress that ABSOLUTELY NOBODY else in Ausralia is like him, he's an overanimated buffoon that makes good television. Please don't judge us by old stevie.
...or Crocodile Dundee, or John Howard, or any other embarrassing "Australian" icon. 8) K- I think your English is excellent, I also used to think you were an American living in Europe.
23. can sympathise with that! It's been proven (though I think by Cosmo  ) that a puppy worked better as a pickup tool than a sports car or a baby. Not really surprising eh!
24. Not bad K- if it was an Aussiespeak exam I'd just correct the "blokes"- technically it does men men, but in this sense, everybody. Grouse= excellent :D :D :D you will have to teach us some Dutch colloquialisms!
25. 8) - that's me, looking gorgeous and cool in my sunnies (pity about the bright yellow face). :drinking: that was me earlier tonight- no drunk photos will ever be posted! BK is way better looking than me, he gets SO much attention when we go out- kind of like escorting a movie star everywhere. He loves it, he's such a princess.
