BLACK Aussie?!

that's pretty cool K. I guess it doesn't affect her eyesight?
2. Blitz never did it until Rinny moved in, and learned how to do it from Rinny. They were so funny when we used to take them out together. Rinny would pee on something and scracth up the dirt. Then Blitz would do the same thing. Over and over again.
3. Of course it might be a completely different person. But it also seems like a mighty big coincidence that two of the warring members of this forum also happen to have bids on that despicable auction. Surely you can see that? :-?
4. It is a dominance thing, you are correct. The top dog is literally the top dog. Blitz and Rinny would play this game incessantly for the time it took for Rinny to give the top dog spot to Blitz, ie. about two years. Blitz still plays it at the dog park but to him it seems to be about trying to provoke a reaction out of the dog to get him or her to play with him as well as making sure he is the top dog.
5. LOL reminds me of this one time... at the dog park... Blitz was shagging one dog, then another dog joined in and started shagging Blitz. So there were three of them jumping around getting their jollies. He was the meat in the sandwich and didn't seem to mind at all!
6. Apparently (this is what I've heard) "wiping their feet" aka "flinging mud and dirt everywhere especially on their owners who are wearing clean clothes" is supposed to spread their scent over a further distance ie. so they can let other dogs know they have territory. Both our dogs do this, they are both male and both neutered. hope this helps. :)
7. Welcome back science doc... This is a good website for choosing a pet according to lifestyle (it's a kind of select your options thing) http://www.petnet.com.au/selectapet/selectapet.html but I don't know any books. hope this helps. :)
8. That dog is probably better off without his prat of an owner...
9. Back pain is the worst thing in the world because it's not easily fixed and it's so debilitating. Mum has spondolythesis in her back, a slipped disc which presses on the nerve going down into her right leg, causing her significant pain, plus osteoarthritis in her hip. I tell you, I am being mighty careful with my back. :-?
10. one of the malteses was under tlcpets the boston was under sandyb now it might, *might* be a coincidence... not saying any more!
11. hmmmm *lightbulb goes on in head*... interesting that those two names crop up... :o
12.
13. Hmmm, good stories... racking my brain... :P In the mornings Dad used to send BK in to wake me up to go to school. He would jump on my bed, nudge me a few times and then curl up beside me. Dad would come in 10 minutes later to find both of us sound asleep. He started bringing me in a cup of coffee after that. Peebo, one of my grandpa's dachshunds, leapt over a 2-3ft high gate (to keep him in bed in the laundry) to scare off a robber once (it worked). But he damaged his back so badly doing it, he had to be put down a few weeks later. :( My stepdad's late German Shepherd, Greta, when my stepsiblings were young (before mum and him got together), would sit across the stairs so they couldn't fall down and hurt themselves. If they got too close she would nudge them with her nose, away from the edge.
14. Blitz ran away the first night we got him. We went out to get food and by the time we came back he had got out from what WAS a secure yard (he bent a steel gate and squeezed past it). He crossed the freeway, railway line, creek, and two major roads to end up at the high school playing with some kids who had responded to our LOST DOG ads we'd frantically put up. This is all in the space of 12 hours. He still likes to escape and go gallivanting about, he is a real Houdini despite our best efforts. He always comes back though (never mind giving us all heart failure) and barks at the front door to be let in. We would often come home from school to see the contents of the garage spread across the backyard. Everything that was in there had been chewed up- books, toys, boxes... If the rubbish bin was full that'd be tipped over (and it's one of those big green council bins, about 4ft high) and sorted out. He would play with the axe ie. pick it up by its wooden handle and swing it around the backyard, and on sunny days he would drag it up onto the outside table and sunbake while chewing on the handle contentedly. Once he bailed a possum up a tree and barked and squeaked at it for hours. We had to drag him away from the tree to let the possum get away and then he went back down the yard in the pouring rain and stayed there till morning waiting for it to come back. He barks at any blimps that go past in the sky and he barks at thunderstorms, he will stay out all night barking at it until it goes away, once it does he feels as though he scared it off and goes to sleep very satisifed. I had a sleepover once and the 4 of us stayed in the loungeroom (where BK can see in from outside) and even though he'd been put to bed he stayed at the back door and whinged the whole night wanting to come in and play with us, he didn't stop until 8am when Dad got up and let him in and he promptly went to sleep IGNORING all of us that he'd been trying so hard to get to the night before. I could go on but that's enough horror story fodder.
15. Yeah, come on Ben! You can do it!
16. *mutters* at least your dogs didn't start chewing up your house! :-?

Update on Collies

 Is there a way we can petition for a new trial, or is that up to the court to decide?
18. I am very sorry for your suffering Canaries, Gigi... :(
19. I remember when I was younger Dad took me to one of his friend's houses for dinner and they had a Newf. Maybe because I was only 12 or so at the time, but this Newf was *massive*! He was the width of the kitchen table and could barely fit under it, he was so big. :o
20. Has he been socialised prior to going to the vet's? I think if he just gets used to being around other dogs he'll be ok, it might take only a couple of weeks but maybe a couple of months for him to calm down around other animals. If he's not paying any attention to you, you can either tell him off very strongly for playing up and then praise him for looking/sitting or whatever, until he gets the message that he can only say hello to the other dogs when you tell him it's ok...? On the plus side at least he's very friendly! :)
21. Wish I had a solution but we've never had a problem with getting BK to lie down or stay when we're eating. He did the funniest thing a few months ago. I had 2 friends over and we were having a hangover lunch of greasy KFC and chips. He kept looking at my chicken expectantly. I gave him a chip for being good and he took it and spat it back in my lap! He then went to the other two people and ate their chips like they were rump steak. Came back to me and I gave him some chicken, which he loved. Tried another chip and he spat it back at me again! Sneaky little thing knows he can get better food from me than boring old chips.
22. NO BK doesn't watch TV. He prefers to sleep next to me when I am watching it though, and will often put his paws across me so I can't get up without him knowing about it.
