1. Hummm yes some people.... BK lifts his leg and always has, it could be because we have another male dog so they always used to have competitions to see who could wee over each other's scents  . When BK goes to visit the Brat (Tomson) it's very funny- BK is HUGE compared to titchypants Tomson, so he spends all his time trying to outwee BK (when he's not trying to hump his leg)- unsuccessfully I might add. :D
2. Lily will be FINE mate... trust me you are making the best choice and maybe it will calm her down a bit too? 8) Hope everything goes well and will be thinking of you Friday! :drinking:

Smelly Ears

Maybe olive oil and cotton balls or pads (not buds)? It gets the dirt out and doesn't irritate their ears. That's what I've used on the dachshunds and on BK though their ears didn't smell and they were all smooth coated dogs. You can probably buy ear cleaner now at a pet shop or the vet's...?
5. BK has a little bit of hair between his toes that sticks out and I tried to trim it when he was living with me but he hated it and would always be able to pull away (and I didn't have anyone else to hold him while I did it). He's never had it trimmed before, and it's not that long- maybe half a centimetre? so I guess it's not causing him any problems (still hunting for that elusive settling down remedy  ).
6. Good for you Crested- keep pushing (we all know how pushy teenagers can be LOL). :D
7. I vote for German Shepherd cross, or maybe a purebred dog I don't know the look of...? Maybe "wiener" was just a reference to the dog being of German origin if it's a GSD, and not necessarily a dachshund. :-?
8. Thanks everyone for your kind words. I hope I don't have to post anything sad too soon... :(
9. Welcome Marge and Cairnmom, no treat for you today! :x
10.
Hey, I posted a reply on this didn't I? Or... whats going on here?! I never read anything anyone wrote here... but I swear it was there before... and... I'm SO CONFUSED!! :drinking:
Hazel I think there are two topics with the same name... maybe we can merge the two...? will ask K. :)

sad story

12. People cross the road to avoid going past Blitz and me, which is funny because he's not huge and he's not a bully breed dog. He doesn't look stereotypically dangerous and he is really very, very gentle-natured (when he's not being boisterous that is!!). Everyone loves Tomson, Grandad's dachshund, because he's so little and cute (which he IS!) but he is way more likely to bite/snap/growl than BK, who probably has nothing to prove ("I'm cool. I'm tough. I'm smart. I'm cute. And I could rip your throat out but I don't want to get dirty." :D ) Looks are very deceiving when it comes to hunds. :-?
13. welcome!!! :bday: We have a psycho blue heeler/border collie cross called Blitzkrieg (BK), and a German Shepherd cross called Rinny. :D
14. Dad and Vicki got back from SE Asia yesterday and Rinny also came back from the geriatric kennels (like a hotel for old dogs). He's looking ok, very very frail but he's a trooper. Still eating, drinking, hopping round and trying to escape- it appears he hasn't lost the will to live yet... but it makes me really sad to see him now, he's a shadow of the dog he used to be. He's done so well for a German Shepherd- to be still alive at 16 when most of them are gone by 10-12 is amazing. Dad has put up barriers over every considerable jump so he doesn't fall off and hurt himself, and BK looks after him which is the cutest thing of all. They cuddle up together all the time and BK protects him from the annoying little pest (Tomson) when he comes over to visit. BK still acts like a booger whenever I pay more attention to Rinny though, big fat sook that he is. However I fear Rinny's time is almost up... I would say maybe a month... but he has lived a good life and way way past what anyone thought he would. I know I have expressed great concern over his quality of life before but I think I was overreacting- it's not wonderful, but he really does seem to be *happy* and that's all you can ask for. They went to the vet for their checkup last month and the vet said when he goes off his food it's time... Will keep you updated on his progress.
15. Hummm I wish BK would just play with frisbees, tennis balls, Kongs etc instead of wood, charcoal, fence palings, concrete, the axe, the contents of the garage and the bin... The best activation toy for him used to be Rinny's tennis ball- if Rinny had it, HE wanted it, and would get it off him, go down the yard, pull all the felt off then leave it. Rinny always used to look soooo sad when he did that  We also put a few bits of dry food in his empty dog food can and that keeps him busy for about five minutes, it's funny watching him figure out how to get them out.
16. WELL DONE!!!! :bday:
17.
You are one hoopy frood! (and obviously the alpha)
DP- you're a frood who really knows where her towel is... *Hitch-hiker speak for really together person* 8)
18. I am glad we are all on the same wavelength here :)
19. You made the right decision Crested! :D
I just heard about the dessolving stiches, that they can get infected a lot easier. /Crest
I don't know about in dogs but I had a very big mole removed from my arm when I was 12 (they thought it may have been cancerous), and the plastic surgeon put dissolvable stiches in and they got infected (because they don't dissolve!!!), all I had to do was poke my scar and pus would come shooting out. It was loads of fun sitting there on holidays at the beach while everyone else was in the water, picking stitches out of my arm. :( Never mind at least I have a conversation starter at parties LOL. Forgot to add that I have had normal stitches on 4 different occasions which have all healed well. (2 were my own fault because I was a hyperactive showoff in my youth, haha) I think BK had normal stitches because we had to go back and get them removed.
20. CONGRATS!!!!! :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday:
21. I like cats but I'm not a "cat person" ie. I would get a dog over a cat any day, and I don't even know if I would buy a cat because we've always had visiting cats that have been *quite* enough to handle and they would get very jealous of any newcomers LOL :D . Maybe one day... also, I don't like kitty litter. It stinks!!
22. I haven't seen the bird one before... LOL very good.
