Blitz is just plain crazy. He will not give up on anything- the amazing one-track mind of this dog still surprises me. :D He loves people but he also loves being on his own having dog adventures without those bossy humans telling him what he can and can't do. :P When he wants to get away from everyone he will go down to his kennel and chill out. He is really good with other dogs and he is great with children. He does not like cats and if he was ever quick enough they would be lunch, same goes for possums. He is boisterous but can be very gentle. He is loyal and loving and likes to snuggle up. He is a princess with his grooming, and will spend ages licking his feet like a cat, to get the grey bits white again. If your hand gets in the way he will lick that too- one of those slimy licks that last about a minute, his tongue will just stop and QUIVER on your hand. He is very smart- too smart- and this is frustrating but also something to be proud of. Rinny- Rinny was just as bad as Blitz when he was younger but now he is old he's mellowed. He is very playful and is in love with his tennis ball, you can throw it and he'll bring it back over and over again- until he realises that you take it off him, so when he is tired of it he will just run off with the ball. He used to love to jump everywhere, he could get as high as the fence (but never got over it) and if someone was walking past they would get a big WOOF in their ears. When he was alpha he would guard the house and not let BK bark in the backyard at all at any strange noises- HE would do the barking and investigating, not the young buck. Now that he's old, not alpha, and would rather lie down than jump up at the window and whinge, he gets BK to bark for dinnertime. He is so affectionate, whenever you pat him on his head he puts his paw up on your knee, and if you pat his chest he'll jump up on you. If you are lucky you get hugged by him- he'll wrap his front legs around your shoulders and lick your ear. I am going to be very sad to see him go... but his time has almost come...

Aren't the dogs really scared of the noise a vacuum makes if you used it on them? Maybe it's because Blitz hates the vacuum and barks at it like it's Darth Vader. I don't think he's really scared of it though because he goes into play position to bark at it... maybe he will try to HERD it next time. :)

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/03/19/1047749826680.html Killer-dog owner gets $850 fine March 20 2003 By Selma Milovanovic A woman was convicted and fined $850 yesterday after her "savage mongrel dog" fatally mauled a Holocaust survivor. Debra Susan Marks, 40, pleaded guilty in Moe Magistrates Court to a charge of reckless conduct endangering a person. It was the first time a criminal charge had been laid over a fatal dog attack in Victoria. The court heard that Leon Tarasinski, 75, a Warsaw Ghetto survivor, went to the Pleasant Drive, Hernes Oak property where Marks lived to collect rent on February 16, 1999. Marks's dog, a Rhodesian ridgeback cross named Harley, jumped on Mr Tarasinski and mutilated his lower leg. Mr Tarasinski hobbled to his car and drove off. He died shortly afterwards from a heart attack caused by rapid blood loss. Magistrate Clive Alsop said he could only sentence Marks on the basis of the criminal charge and not the tragic consequences. Marks was charged with keeping an aggressive vicious mongrel dog without lawful excuse in such a way that it could place a person in danger of serious injury. Prosecutor Mark Regan told the court that Marks's "vicious mongrel dog" was on a 6.8-metre chain padlocked to his neck when he attacked Mr Tarasinski. The chain was connected to an 18.5-metre cable, tied in a knot to an unsecure axle. He said the dog, which had a history of attacking animals, attacked a policeman before it was put down. Mr Regan said Marks first told police she felt responsible for Mr Tarasinski's death but later said she did not because the dog was there to protect the property. Mr Regan said Marks told police she knew Harley would attack any person, especially a male, who came within range. Defence counsel Mark Woods said that Mr Tarasinski, who had visited Marks several times, was "not unaware" of the dog and how it was secured. Had Mr Tarasinski visited a day later as arranged someone would have been there to attend to him. Mr Woods said his client had been "fraught and distraught by the unfortunate death of Mr Tarasinski". Mr Alsop said that in sentencing Marks in a case with extraordinary circumstances he was unaware of the details of a 2001 coroner's finding. Coroner Edwin Batt had found that Marks contributed to Mr Tarasinski's death by "keeping an aggressive, vicious mongrel dog in such a way that it could, and would, attack". While this is good news that an irresponsible owner has been prosecuted, why did it take the death of a man for the authorities to take any notice??? :x Small wonder he attacked someone- I am willing to bet this poor dog was chained all the time, mistreated by at least one male, and mistreated generally to such an extent aggression towards other animals and ultimately humans was inevitable. :(

LOL, well at least you found them in the end! :drinking:

Hazel, keep up the good work. Learning is great and I think it's better to ask questions and get great advice from people here on how to improve your training tips, rather than just bully on ahead and possibly make mistakes. :) There are so many methods of training and we all have our personal choices, if you find something that works and is not abusive towards the dog then stick with it.

That's amazing Rott... the only time BK switches on his massive brain is to use it for HIS purposes!
-
It's a very nice work... but I live in Australia and I am broke to boot. :(

Goldendoodle= standard poodle/golden retriever X I think. My auntie just got a Spoodle (english cocker spaniel X standard poodle)... I haven't seen her yet but apparently she's very cute and lively. My aunt is one of those people that has to have a trendy "designer" dog.

Glad Dreydin is settling in well... can't wait to see the photos!!!! :D
-
Glad she is all better!!!

Rott see the thread entitled "does laduenda fight her dogs?"- I too think that posting stuff from another board in order to make a forum member look bad is not on. It's forum land and you take people at face value because there's no other way to do it. Let Laduenda (or anyone else for that matter) be judged by what she does HERE. How is the new addition??

Welcome Pat :D :D :bday: hope you like it here! :drinking:
Shadow gets SOOOOOOOOO jealous when I pet Rocky. I didn't think a dog could get so jealous!!! She'll sit there and cry (literally cry) and howl when I take Rocky for a walk....
Hahahaha that's what BK would do if Rinny got taken out either for a walk or a vet checkup. He would have a hissy fit because Rinny was going somewhere and *he* wasn't invited. Meanwhile Rinny would be cool if BK wasn't there- in fact he probably rather enjoyed not being stepped on, shoved around, or jumped over.

Onya Rowie!!!! You're a star

Sending lots of positive thoughts to you.... come on Freebee you can make it

Ahhh it's so nice to take the dogs out in the nice weather! I took bk on Sunday to the park and there were two blue heelers swimming in the lake, they looked SO cute. And there were heaps of border collies, they seem to have replaced Labs in the popularity stakes. :-?
-
He is such a princess. Oh he pretends he's tough but underneath he is just a big sook. :D
-
I think BK (bc/acd X) would be an ok working dog if he was ever trained. He has a lot of natural instinct- both herding and nipping (so probably more suited to cattle than sheep). But no stamina- anything above 24C or below 15C and he's either flopped up against the house or curled up pathetically in his bed giving the evil eye to everyone.

Mary's Mama has 2 jacks (or one, and one on the way). Ummmmm who else....? my brain hurts!!! :drinking:

I think we were going to start one... I remember it being mentioned... feel free to start one up- it'd be useful. We could put it as a sticky if you wanted. Or did you mean a whole forum room devoted to education eg. training/NDR etc.

106 posts and counting... that's something like 50 posts average a day... you ARE nuts :D

No matter, a lot of things end up not being related to dogs- that's why we had chat- but never mind! Post away my friend!
