Hey glad someone got me for once in my life. THANK YOU!!! It made sense to me. If dogs can pick up on human feelings, then if someone broke in with evil intent I think the dog would pick up on that.

I feel for you. I put old T-shirts in Toby's crate and he would almost always immediatley pee on them. Even though I took him to go right before he went in. He did not push them out of the way however, he just laid right in it. I was very frustrated. For some reason the crate didn't work. When I am not home Toby goes to the laundry room. I took the door off the crate. It's just a house now. He sleeps in it and loves it, but when he has to go he uses paper on the other side of the room. The room is gated off so he can not get out. This just seems to work so much better for me. Toby would even poop in the crate, step in it wipe it all over the inside and whine. He figured out if he did so I had no choice but to get him out. Smart dog huh. So I gave up on shutting him in the crate. I will have it if needed for travel. He is fine as long as I am looking right at him. The minute I leave the room he gets rotten. So crates don't work for every dog apparently. I find the small gated room and newspaper for pottying does very well.

LOL DO, that is hilarious. In that case I would change it to, but Leo and Lilo is no big deal. I agree that eventually your son will be able to say it right. The dog will not be confused either. My son says Toby pretty well, but sometimes he just says doggy or puppy and Toby knows it means him. Dogs are very smart. I think they understand when kid mean them.

oh what cute stories. I love the first one. Now is that selfish or what?

I really don't think the dogs even barked. They pretty much welcomed him like he was one of there own! It was odd. Maybe they could sense it wasn't real. Dogs can sense the way people feel, and since it was a fake breakin then maybe they didn't see him as "bad." Does that make any sense? It does in my head, but often it doesn't to everyone around me. My husband is usually looking at me like "WHAT." I can just see all of you doing it too.

 That is so funny. Alot of people don't think dogs are that smart. I'll have to think real hard. I'm sure there is times McKenzie outsmarted the rest of us.

Glad you understand better now. My pup is very stubborn, so it takes a lot more with him than with some others. He would go potty in his crate even right after going outside or on the papers. He did not do well with the crate. So we switched to laundry room. Crate on one end to sleep in and paper on other to potty. Works better, but I am always home so it works well. You will have to get yours crate trained for what you are doing. Good Luck Again!

I'm so sorry. Very sad.

umm to repeat what Jess said. The original post is 2 years old. Not really worth replying to. Maybe you didn't look at the dates!!!
Thanks! I'll look through it. :) I kind of thought that a similar question would have already been posted, but i don't have the patience to look for them half the time. Lol.
I don't have the patience either. I just didn't think everyone else had the patience to retype all that. I got alot of good info and it has helped alot. Good Luck.

My husband and I watched that show. He was very surprised that the dogs just followed the guy around tails wagging. We kinda sat there mouths wide open in total disbelief that the dogs were letting this guy toss stuff around. I thought it was pretty funny though.

I just recently asked the same thing. Here is the topic. Alot of people gave me a lot of good advice. I just thought I would put this up so they wouldn't have to post it all again. Good Luck. Good for you, to put the dogs needs over your wants! Way to go! I think you probably did the right thing!

:( So Sorry. Poor Meg, looks very sad. People are so selfish!

We have a staing problem. Toby is being paper trained and he doesn't like the cold. His cute little white paws are turning gray from the paper print. It's funny, but washes out in the bath. It sounds like the dog is in the crate to much. Puppies have to go potty ever hour or so. Toby was going in his crate anyway. He didn't want me to take him outside in the cold. So he is now confined to the laundry room. He sleeps in his crate and does his business on newspaper in one corner of the room. This works out alot better for us. Good Luck with those stains.

Good, maybe he won't be to big. McKenzie was a good 85 lbs and I don't think she was done growing yet. I was hoping he would be a bit smaller, but I didn't want to small. My kids are very outgoing, I wanted a dog that could keep up. I think I got what I wanted. Right now my daughter is laying in the floor screaming. Toby has a hold of her slipper and won't let go. The fun never stops here! Toby was a little thin when we got him. Also had a pretty bad case of worms. Now that we got passed that he is getting a little chubby. I know gotta watch that. I have been feeding him less, but he whines. If he could get the 4lb bag down, he would eat it all. PIG.

I found the coolest dog toys for my dogs!!!
Crystal replied to CincoandDahlilasgirl's topic in Everything about dogs
I myself and scared to death of all toys. I'm afraid if I am not around something might happen. Toby stold Brandi's slipper and stuck his face inside of it and got a tooth hung. It was a funny site though. When he killed the one slipper I was so afraid he might have eaten some of the stuffing before I noticed. I am very paranoid. When I lived at home, Magic, our female min-pin got real sick. She wouldn't eat anything. Bologna was her fav, when she tried she threw it back up. I knew what happened, she had eaten part of a blanket in her dog house. She had surgery to remove it, she did well and was fine when the vet left for the night. The next morning she was dead. Deuce missed her so bad. It was sad. She was just so sick from lack of food, she couldn't recover from surgery. So I am afraid of everything. I don't know about the little beans in the toys. I'm sure they can swallow them, but I wouldn't know what kind of damage it may do after. I know some of them can swell up when wet, which would be inside a tummy. I would worry that they could have some kind of reaction from swallowing them. I don't know. I just know when I ain't right on top of Toby, the only thing I feel a little ok about is the rope bone. He even eats his newspaper he is suppose to potty on. Geez, dogs eat silly things. -
Thank you very much. Actually alot of that appears very true. Extreme stubborness, but as long as there is treats...yeah you know where thats going. I've never seen so much energy. He has taken a real liking to my daughter. My son is slighty scared of him, he moves to fast I think. He is very happy too, tail never stops going, even when I am very upset with him for chewing the wire from the lamp. I yell and try to get him to quit, it's behind the couch and he just acts like, "me, no not me, I'm perfect." It's kinda funny. If I pick him up and give him a good lecture he just wraps his paws around my arm and lays there like when will she be done. Just waiting to go back to no good. Lucky, I have all hardwood floors, so no vacumming needed, just constant sweeping. Also I have a good brush and am trying to get him used to getting a good brushig a couple of times a day. So when he is bigger he will sit still for me. He hates cold wet weather right now. He refuse to go out in the snow. If I try to take him out he just pees on the porch. Maybe just because he's a baby. I'm sure hell get over it. Thanks, it's nice to know what to expect. I am trying to estimate just how big he may get. Any educated guesses. I know it can't be perfect, but I have been checking around and some places say labs will be medium, some say large. Some say large for huskies, some say extra large. So my best guess, he will be pretty big.

OMG, I've never heard that. That is so sad. My sister had a similar problem. She just had 4 teeth pulled. Her adult teeth came in and behind her baby teeth and she even had one come in in the roof of her mouth. So I am sure she would sympathize with the poor dogs! :(

Oh man...to bad. Well maybe it wasn't mean to be. Probably better if your going to be busy. Sorry it didn't happen though! :(

Tobys favorite toys are my house slippers. The ones I had were pretty worn out, so yesterday I got some new ones. I gave him one of the old ones and within 10 minutes it was turned inside out and all the stuffing was everywhere. He destroyed that one. The other one I keep in the living room. He drags it under the couch. He also has a rope bone, a stuffed toy with a rattle in its head, and a ball. He prefers slippers. -
Ok just wondering. I know a lot about boxers and pits. I know it takes forever for boxers to grow out of puppyhood, somewhere like 3 years. What about Toby? Will he get over that quicker. Is there anything I should look out for. Never had a Lab, had a husky mix around me before. Just trying to learn as much as possible. I already know he is stubborn. He is doing good at paper training. He also is very good at sit, although he expects a treat. I'm working on stay, not to good at that. He jumps at me.

Hamilton pit bulls have until friday to live
Excellent. My efforts to convince my housemates than another dog would be fine weren't going well.
 -
She is pretty. I think Toby will look a lot like that, but he is really like tan. I would say if she did bark when being tied, I would rather here a little barking than yelping in pain from getting hit by a car. She may bark at first. Toby whines like he is dying when I take him out and tie him out. I try to play with him, but for a few minutes he just pulls and whines and tries to get loose. They get over it!
