1. Sorry, guess I should have said....McKenzie's little freaked out episode was not the only reason she was rehomed. We were moving and couldn't really find a place to take her. We could have placed her with family, but they are not as loving as we are. We also thought with a new born baby and her weird acting it was probably best she go somwhere without kids. This was not the only reason she was rehomed. I was just stating I knew the situation this person was in. I understand what a tough decision she has to make.
2. McKenzie loved c@ts. We had the c@t first, then when McKenzie was a puppy we would hold the c@t down and let McKenzie sniff him. Eventually he got used to it. Infact the c@t only liked me and McKenzie, didn't care much for anyone else. They were the best of friends and the c@t even slept in the dog house. Until that is the c@t crossed the line and gave McKenzie a wack on the nose. McKenzie picked the c@t up by the head and shook him. After that the c@t avoided McKenzie. Then there was my inlaws c@t. HA, this is hilarious, that c@t is scared to death of dogs. McKenzie loved to chase Katie(inlaws c@t) Katie ran in the gazeebo once trying to get away. McKenzie crouched down and watched her, barking the whole time. She was loving every minute. McKenzie thought it was plaly. One time she lunged forwarded and barked really big and poor Katie crapped herself. Honestly my dog scared the crap out of the c@t. My brother in law had to clean the poop out of the gazeebo. I've probably never laughed so hard in my life. It's all depending on the animal and there age. If they are pretty young they will adjust.
3. huh, hiding the paws. That is what Toby does. He tucks them under himself and lays there. I tried again over the weekend. I had him sitting on my lap and when he saw the clippers he jumped. His head busted my chin. I knew that dog was hard headed but not that hard. So my chin hurts now. I don't know why he hates it so bad. Hopefully this awful weather will go away soon and I can take him walking. The pavement will wear them down. It's not that they are so long, they are just sharp. Everytime you get near him he wraps his paws around your ankle and scratches the piss out of ya. He won't let my file them either. Stubborn mutt!
4. silly doggy! oh wait I just thought of something. Duece, mom and dads min-pin, will take anything food wise and dig a whole, put it in, cover it up, dig it up immediatley and go find another spot. Then he starts all over. He does this 3 or 4 times and then eats it. This drives my mom nuts, she can not figure out why he wants everything covered in dirt. He is the weirdest dog.
5. I almost always used baby shampoo on McKenzie. Even dog shampoo seemed to irritate her skin. Baby shampoo was all she could handle. I don't think mixing dog shampoos would hurt.
6. well, sorry but it must not have been meant be.
7. Toby is a loud sleeper, he whines and moans. There is the ocassional bark in his sleep. He almost never sleeps quietly. I laugh so hard.
8. oh great, so huskies always put up a struggle and cry. Poor me, I may never get Toby's nails clipped. Only half husky, but I'm sure he got the husky nail freak out gene. Geez, what great news to get on Monday
9. AAAAWWWWWWWW, so cute. I just can't take the cutesy pictures. I'm melting from the inside!
10. I must say I feel horrible for you. Once a dog breaks that trust it is always in the back of your mind. Once I was giving McKenzie a bath. I was like 8 months pregnant at the time. She always loved a bath and never acted funny, except for this time. It was about 3 weeks after all the pups were gone. She had her head down and looked very unhappy. I was scared to death. I loved that dog with all my heart, she was my baby. I was never scared of her once, until then. I was so scared by the way she was acting I actually had my husband come in and stand beside me until I was done with her bath. She was very freaked out that day and I have no idea why. My husband was even worried. She never did anything to me, but you could tell she was freaked out. I never gave her another bath after that. Then we rehomed her. She was to much dog for a baby. Maybe you have the same problem. It does sound like the dog may be having rank issues with the baby. You must make sure the dog knows the baby is above him in the pack. NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER LEAVE THAT DOG ALONE NEAR THAT BABY. Don't run out to check the mail box, don't just run to the bathroom, or grab yourself a snack while they are left alone. You may live to regret that. The dog doesn't have it out for the baby or anything, babies and small kids scare the crap out of dogs. This is why we got a puppy, to get him used to the kids from the start. I don't agree with automatically putting the dog down. I mean Geez, one day the baby is gonna bite you, are you gonna have the baby put down. NO, and you wouldn't rehome the baby either. Now, don't get me wrong I know there is a difference in babies and dogs, but when you get the dog it is like a child. I know sometimes dogs need to be where there isn't kids and you couldn't have forseen this. There are other ways. Don't kill that poor animal. The dog doesn't understand! Help him understand, teach him just like you would your child!
11. Toby also refuses to go outside in bad weather, so we use paper in the corner of the laundry room. Works pretty well.
12. I sure couldn't hold it that long. A guy my hubby works with brought his dog to work yesterday and swore his dog could hold it for 40 hours. sounds like BULL to me!
13. sounds like it's suppose to happen to me and if it's not something will happen and you won't get him. Just go for it, whatever is suppose to happen will happen!
14. I keep thinking about this and it just doesn't feel right. Something weird is going on here. I can't help but wonder if maybe the dogfight wasn't random. I mean by the descriptions you guys give of this guy and his lack of emotion. He took pictures and didn't do anything to save his dog, that proves what a jerk he is. I wonder if maye he didn't run his mouth to some stupid pit owner. Maybe some dumb idiot who owned a couple of pits, or whatever they really were, said his dogs were tougher than this guys pei. Maybe this guy said "my pei would rip your dogs apart." Maybe then the first guy dropped his dogs off in this guys yard to prove his stupid point. Who knows? Just what I thought. Something is very fishy about this!!!!
15. So I'm not the only one to take a long time off. I just recently got back after about a 4 year break. I guess I was little worse than you, I paid my internet bills just kinda didn't pay the computer finacing. Well Welcome back!!!!
16. http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?p=230918#230918 Before this topic got started I had one going in care about the same thing. Just incase anyone wants to see how the dremel works there is a terrific link in that thread. I was extremly impressed when I read it all. there is even pictures. WOW. It will blow ya away if you've never seen it. Defiently got me hooked!

Cutting Nails

Well, I told hubby he needed a dremel. He agreed, but asked why I cared. So I had to explain. So while at walmart he looked, and wouldn't ya know it. The one he wants is like $80. MEN!
18. Congrats and good luck!
19. Oh I'm not scared of ferrets, I actually want one. I just meant that I would be more scared of a loose ferret than a chained dog!
20. Oh Debbie I love you. I always hate it when people say it's a guard dog. yeah like someone is gonna be scared off by that nutty dog barking his head off at the end of a chain. I'd be more scared of a ferret running loose in the house. That actually is the exact reason I wanted Toby. Sometimes my husband has to go on trips for a night or two. I can't sleep when he is not here. Every little noise freaks me out. I begged him for a dog. I said that way when you are gone the dog can sleep in the crate beside the bed.(yeah, we all know he'd be in the bed  ) So if I get scared or think someone is outside I can let him out of the crate and he can scare em off!
21. I'm very lucky for my nieghbors! I wish everyone was as caring towards animals as my nieghbor. Wouldn't the world be a better place?

Cutting Nails

My goodness, why have I never heard of this before? That is the greatest thing in the world and that site really describes it well. Now all I gotta do is buy a dremel. My husband has been saying he want one, now I can agree that he needs it
23. hmmm I wonder if the filing would be easier with toby. I've accidently drew blood when cliping because he jerked and I cut to much. Maybe filing them would get him used to having them messed with and later on we can go back to cutting. Gotta try it!
24. Sorry I wouldn't give my neighbors up for anything in the world. They are all old and retired. Actually the man that gave Toby water doesn't live there. His mother does and she is totally paralized. Her kids take turns staying weeks with her. He just happened to be there this week. All my neighbors are little old ladies. My husband is the only man on the street and my kids are the only kids unless grandkids come around. It's nice to have atleast 6 people always watching out for ya!
25. McKenzie was always great about the nails. She would sit and hand me her paw and be all sweet. Toby is a disaster. The first few times he did ok. He has doubled in size and now he freaks out. I got clawed on the neck and bit in the face yesterday for trying to but his nails. I can't hold him still because he tries to bite me. I may have to get hubby to help me.
