Most of those breeds listed are very popular for a reason. They make good pets. But of course there are lots of other breeds not on the list that are awesome as well :-)
-
There must be more urgent matters that they can focus on. Who cares if butchers want to give away their bones? Maybe the EU wants them to sell the bones, than they get the taxes?

Yay! Remember we need pictures :D

not usually... It's normally peaceful.

I do think it's pretty underhanded to take someone's pictures that they posted to share with other dog lovers and then use them to pick apart their dogs. Sizzle, did you even ask SRC's permission to use her photos for this purpose? I always thought there was an implied copy right on all pictures that don't belong to you. Even if copyrights don't say so, basic ethics say you should have asked her first. Anyone of us can look at her dogs and see they aren't breeding or show quality. It's not educational when it's that obvious.
Would you be able to take Remington and keep him as your own dog?
This would be my first choice. But since I'm moving home I can't. My parents don't want another dog in the house. I think if it were possible Remington's owners would give him to me. I know they gave him away once before, but he was returned. My plan was to talk to Rem's owners about training him and letting them know what commands I had trained him on. My biggest fear though is if I train him but he won't listen to them when they give the command. If this were to happen I feel it would be worse for Remington because it would make his owners feel like they can't control him even after he's been trained. Do you know what I mean? I'm afraid they would feel like he's hopeless even though it may only be that they need to work with him a lot more to get him to understand. Only they won't do it. I hope that makes sense... It's a hard thing for me to explain. I think Remington is a great dog. His temperment has to be like a rock for him to be so good natured and outgoing even with all the shocking that has been going on. Would it be wrong of me to take his e-collar and throw it into the woods next time he comes over...? Dogs lose their collars all the time right?

Puppy Schedule I've done up in my spare time...
kendalyn replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
Looks good :-) But remember you shouldn't live and die by it. Schedules are good guidelines but you have to be flexible too :) -
but some of them (like my piglet) do it as if their life depended on getting out of the water
  That made me laugh out loud!

I'm going to be moving home Thursday (starting an internship, can't afford to work full time for free and pay rent and stuff) and I have a question about the neighbor dog. Our neighbors have this very large and very sweet great dane/lab mix (something like that I think) His name is Remington and he's Buck's best friend. Anyway, Remington's owners probably got in over their heads when they got this dog. They have no idea how to train it and the poor thing wears an e-collar constantly. I don't have a problem with these types of collars in some situations, but the way my neighbors use it is not right. Basically from what I've seen they let the dog run all over the place when they are outside and then when they want the dog back they call his name and shock him. It doesn't work. Remington is often over at our house which is fine with me :-) Last night I was walking Buck over there and we were about a half mile away from the neighborhood. All of a sudden here comes Remington running up to us. I couldn't keep him out of the busy road so I put Buck's leash on him because I knew I could control Buck without it. The babysitter had let him get out. She was standing in the front yard pushing the remote control shock button over and over again. Yeah, that's really going to get the dog to come back. So anyway, that was the rant, here's the question. I'm fairly certain that Remington's owners are not interested in learning how to train him. But, if I offer to bring Rem with us on our walks, and I do some training with him then, will it make a difference? I'm just talking about basic commands and especially his recall which is terrible. I know it won't work as well as if his owners were included in the training, but if I teach him a command, do you think he'll still obey it when someone else gives it? Has anyone else ever trained a dog for someone else?

Well, it's a no go on Cheyanne with Scott. :( He's decided to wait to get a dog. He's not sure what he's waiting for I don't think, but he said he's not ready right now. That's OK, I'd rather he wait until he's ready than get in over his head. I'm a little sad though!
-
Wow, I thought all dogs could instinctively swim! Poor thing! Are you going on trail soon!? I'm so jealous if you are. I don't think I'm going to be able to get out this summer. :(
I like the Scot variety better myself.
Me too :-)
That's what I get for posting shortly after waking up, when my brain isn't quite engaged
I'm not the best right after I wake up either!

noooooooo! Don't bait the troll!!! :scared:

Wow! Those dogs are the same breed!? Very interesting. I'm a little too tired to read the link right now, but tomorrow I'll try to get to it.

I declare us the victors!! Now, where are the spoils!?
it is only logical to try and make dogs that more people want and try to raise awareness of improper breeding practices and come down harder on heartless bastards that can't be bothered to care properly for their dogs.
I sort of agree with you here. The only problem is that people who don't know specific breed tendencies often want dogs they shouldn't have. How often does it happen that people bring home a cute boxer puppy only to find out it drools like crazy and is extremely active? Mei-Mei made a good point a while ago when she said she once wanted an Afghan Hound. But after doing some research she realized the Afghan isn't a dog that would fit into her lifestyle. Not everybody is going to do this research as Mei-Mei did. So reacting to supply and demand doesn't always work because if the dog isn't a good fit in a home, it has a higher chance of being dumped. But the long term results of that purchase don't factor into your high school economics course.
In addition, to those of you belly aching about how mixed or hybrid dogs are only going to have health problems and various weaknesses you can stick that right up your unaware backsides.
When the cross breedings make sense, you're absolutely right. As most of us know, it was the way our "purebreds" were develped. Not every cross breeding is a good one though, especially when people are breeding dogs who already have a lot of genetic problems. The people doing the cross breedings are quite often ill informed. It is doubly bad when they are specifically breeding for conditions that are inherently unhealthy such as dogs with severe pushed in faces or are extremely tiny. In a perfect world I would be very happy to see new breeds developed. But the reality is in today's world most dogs don't need to be developed to do jobs as they used to. So in effect all we're breeding for is pets. And that quite often translates into breeding for how a dog looks. As I said before those features which make a dog look distinctive are not always very healthy for the animal.

If you want to prevent it happening again, squeeze your dogs legs while he is laying there (if he really can't get up and walk around). We put special wraps on people's legs in the hospital that inflate and deflate periodically to help prevent blood clots. Squeezing his legs would do the same thing. Your arm will probably get tired though!

Are you sure it's an American Bulldog? The Welcome to Mooseport dog is pretty small and compact. I always thought American Bulldogs were taller, lankier dogs. Plunger only came up to mid calf on Ray. I found this on another website about the movie:
Two American Bulldogs named Gangster and Blitz played the part of Gunner
. Here's one of the Cheaper By The Dozen dogs: Here's the Welcome To Mooseport dog: It's not a great picture but it's the only one I can find. I don't think they're the same dog though. I can't find any mention of Plunger on the credits online though. :-? BTW, I love Ray Romano! I never miss his show :-) Except this week I did :-(
Primrose-thank you for understanding the question instead of throwing knifes at me. You truly are intelligent.
If Primrose is on your side, and you agree with her, I'd say you have real problems!
Rescue is great, you can get a young adult or adult dog that is house trained, leash trained and get it from a foster family who can tell you about the temperament of the dog. There are tons of breed rescues that only take purebred dogs!
I agree! Go for the rescue! :D
The website/ "kennel" belongs to friend of mine, as much as I hate the fact that he put my dogs on his site wthout asking.. he did it as a "thank you" to me, so I cant really be mad at him, I hooked him up with his site designer and this was his way of saying thank you. I dont know why he is telling people that they are for stud, we will have a talk about this. That is an oversight, on my and his part. I dont know what kind of responses you have been getting but i can imagine knowing him... I apologize for that. He is really a nice guy, just a little edgy.
This doesn't really make any sense. Why would he offer your dogs for stud if they're fixed? And how is this a "thank you"? Does it mean you get all the money from their "stud fees"?

Has anybody seen this movie? I watched it last night and there is the cutest little staffy bull (I think) in it! His name is Plunger and he is adorable :-) Everytime he came on I was like, "PLUNGER!" It's a good movie too so I suggest you guys rent it. Oh, I found some pictures. Here's Plunger:
So no answer from the irresponible shelter stocker?
That was completely uncalled for. She hasn't even posted anything since May 12th. Why try stirring this up again?
