:D My sister got Sandy from a breeder, she has great lines, but I don't think she should of sold an IG to a girl in a wheel-chair, so my sister gave her to me and I have been so greatfull ever since. Sally & Rocket came from a friend who is just starting to breed RR's. They are from her first litter. Their half-uncle won the hound group at the Westminster show in 2002. They come from good lines and I got to help raise them from the day they were born.

Oh he's so cute!!! Now we can share puppy stories and make everyones puppy envy worse than ever!!! :evilbat:  Isn't it just the best feeling in the world to bring a new bundle of joy into the family???
Now I have someone to blame if I give in and get one of the puppys
Imposible to resist, aren't they? Especially when you've got a serious case of puppy envy!
And the breeder sent me pics of them at 2 days old. She is not helping this puppy fever either.
and yes, Aroura... just think of the power we have HA HA HA
Daisysmom, you are definately evil!

:D shorty your mom is a true  In case mom can't take a whole road trip - Let me know if the yellow lab needs transport from around the middle/west end of TN, I could take the pup from (preferably)Jackson, TN but I could do Nashville, TN to Cape Girardeau, MO or somewhere in that tri-state area with no problem.

:D Absolutely precious. Glad that the breeder is so concerned, sounds like a good one. Oh! and by the way, this is not helping my puppy envy situation.
The stairs and the bathroom seem to be our issue!! LOL Why do children, dogs and cats INSIST on being in the bathroom with you??? :D
It's an issue here too. Picture this- Sally is laying at the entrance to the bathroom, Rocket standing in the middle whining , Sandy in front of me trying to push Pumpkin out of my lap (yes, he insists on sitting in my lap while I pee) and Miss Kitty hiding behind the shower curtain batting at it trying to get me to play with her. I did not make this up, it actually happens, mostly when I first get home and don't say my hello's first.

From Neuticles site... NeuticlesID - A tiny microchip - about the size of a grain of rice- is implanted within the Neuticle to help identify your pet by authorities if he becomes lost.
How bizarre is that? :o
 Put the transmitter closest to the brain. Yup! Sounds about right to me!

 Sleeping with the Enemy? Now I lay me down to sleep, The king-size bed is soft and deep.. I sleep right in the center groove My human being can hardly move! I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight And here is where I pass the night No one disturbs me or dares intrude Till morning comes and "I want food!" I sneak up slowly to begin my nibbles on my human's chin. She wakes up quickly, I have sharp teeth- I'm a puppy, don't you see? For the morning's here and it's time to play I always seem to get my way. So thank you Lord for giving me This human person that I see. The one who hugs and holds me tight And shares her bed with me at night. Author Unknown
my family had a impulse buy once from a pet store and we ended up giving her away to a another family. What do they do with the ones they don't sell? You could have saved her from the pound (if thats what they dog).
Probably send back to the mill, to replace mom who died of dehydration because she was already whelping another litter.

 Hmmm! Capitalism at it's finest! Reputable breeders charge high prices for good-quality dogs so let's charge the same, the consumer will never know the difference and we can get rich. The mentality and insensitivity of mankind is absolutely embarrasing to say the least. People have become so dependent on being told what is acceptable they don't take the time to find out the truth for themselves, must less ask someone.

You'll never guess what happened while at the butchers :)

:D You really need to see the living conditions the pups are born in, if at all possible please so the whole way and see where he lives. And most reputable breeders guarantee hips for the life of the dog. -
I was looking at the website and what people had to say about Neuticles was pretty DARN funny. "Neuticles were the absolute least I could do." Glenda Nelson Spring, TX No, sorry to break it to you, but the absolute LEAST you could do would to NOT get your dog FAKE BALLS! I've got a question for anyone on the board who DOES have a neutered male WITHOUT Neuticles. Does the male REALLY know that he's missing part of his manhood? Does it REALLY affect their self esteem not to have their testicles?
The answer is yes, the irony is that they feel better about themselves after they are gone. Case in point: Sally's daddy would have to balance himself swinging his jewels in the air to make sure that they rested behind him and not under him when he sat down. After he was neutered and the stitches were removed he sat down and was and still is quite content to be free of his balls acrobats. You can actually tell that the boy is glad they are gone.

:D At the park last weekend I saw a yellow lab and boxer mix. I had to ask the lady are you positive it doesn't have ridgeback in it. she said she was positive, it was her friends full-blooded boxer and they are positive it was a neighbors full-blooded lab. The dog looked exactly like a ridgeless ridgeback, just a poor example of one.

she said that it would cost 500 dollars to neuter the dog because his testicles hadn't dropped. (that dosn't sound right to me! 500 dollars for a neuter?!?!!? can someone explain that one to me?)
Neutering a dog with retained testicles is much more complex than a standard neuter. They actually have to go into the abdomen and find the testicle(s) - it can apparenty be quite invasive, depening on where abouts the lost nugget is. So I guess that is why is costs more.
You are correct Malamum, another thing that makes it cost so much more is that because of the locality of where the testicle is dropping from there is a very high risk that the testicle has attached itself to if not through the intestines which would also mean that an intestinal bypass be done on the dog.

 Sanvean - IG's are not as fragile as they look. My sister gave me Sandy and I called the breeder about her pedigree, whether it was show quality or not, she was thrilled that I was planning on showing her but got very uneasy when she found out her IG was living with a German Shepard and a Australian Shepard mix. She told me I couldn't let them play or her legs would get broken; 7 years later, and the last two spent with the RR's and I haven't had not one broken bone with her. She even ran full force into Rocket when he was 4 months old, and knocked herself out running into a tree chasing a squirrel, needless to say she has never chased a squirrel since. IG's are very nervous/skittish dogs and children are hyper and unpredictable around animals. No matter how well your dog behaves or how well it's socialized an IG will snap at or bite a child that won't leave it alone.
-
:D   :o Neuticals! Now I have heard it all. What's next? breast lifts for sagging bitches? :o Are we a vain society or what?

 Well all I can say is that you get what you pay for, even in the dog world. Buy cheap get cheap. You might luck up and find a reputable breeder that breeds sounds dogs at reasonable prices, but generally the better the breeder the bigger the price. It also holds true that just because it costs the most doesn't mean it's the best quality. You should really check out the national breed club here in the states and research their breeders list. Good luck.
-
:D About the only thing I have going for me in saying NO, I can't is $$$$$$$$$$$. Good quality RR's are not cheap.
I understand Rosebud, and I agree that some breeds are guarded by their fanciers so that they do not gain acceptance by the AKC. AKC acceptance is sometimes accompanied by a sudden increase in popularity of the breed and a big demand for puppies. This often results in a lot of irresponsible breeding that can be detrimental to the integrity of the breed. I didn't know that the dogo site lists Labradooles and Cockapoos though. Whatever!
You wouldn't believe how many people I have met when I had my dogs with me that said "I saw one of them on T.V. on a dog show" with me knowing they are referring about when the RR made history by winning the hound group last year. They would then say, yeah I've been looking for one. They have no clue what it takes to be owned by an RR, dead give-a-away is when they don't call them by their breed name. I also have to explain to alot of people that IG's are not good dogs for people with small children, they're granny dogs.
-
:D
Third I just found out that an RR owner's dad I know bred his bitch to her male (oh, and I think he looks great, he's beat the #1 RR for 2002 before).
The puppies were born earlier this week, 8 Boys & 3 Girls. I am going to need a lot of support in the next 8-9 weeks. After they open their eyes I will be helping with socialization and it's going to be very, very hard. The last time I helped with a litter that I had no intention of getting a pup from I ended up with Sally & Rocket.

:D

. Wellness is good but is really pretty low in protein and high in carbs.
22% protein is NOT too low if the protein source is of good/high quality. If the dog is a performance dog, works hard, runs hard, does a lot of herding or police work or hunting or other such heavy activity, more protein could be needed. Otherwise, 22% is generally fine.
Actually if you are going to supplement your dog's diet with real meat you would want a kibble that is lower on protein count. Also, large breed dogs don't really need high protein, you run the risk of the bones growing faster than the muscle/tendons and that can lead to problems later in life. The byproducts that I would be concerned about are chicken by-products, personally I'm not to wild about feeding my babies chicken heads and feet.
Meat By-Products/Beef By-Products/Lamb By-Products The clean parts derived from mammals. It may include lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, blood, bones, stomach and intestines. It does not include hair, horns, teeth or hooves. If from a particular source it may state so (i.e. beef by-products, lamb by-products). A good source of protein, and fat.

Poultry By-Products/Chicken By-Products The clean parts of poultry including bone, heads, feet or entrails. Does not contain feathers. If from a particular source it may state so (i.e. chicken by-products, turkey by-products). A good source of protein, and fat.
If you are concerned about weight then I would suggest getting an all-natural yogurt made with whole milk (not non or low fat). This will help with digestion, coat and weight. I would say go with the Wellness, if you dog is too active for a low protein count of 22% supplement with real beef. I will say that I use Eagle Natural and I'm looking at switching to the Holistic, no complaints with the Natural just more impressed with the results I've seen on the Holistic.

:D Proud Mom of 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, 1 Italian Greyhound & 2 house lions (had to include them) Proud Aunt of of 5 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, 2 Jack Russell Terrorists. Proud Sister of 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Sally & Rockets mom & dad) and 1 German Shepard.

:D Meehs, I agree with you, that was a generalization made for the benefit of the guest. Most breeds that are not yet recognized by the AKC are pretty much guarded by their breeders. There are plenty of breeds AKC recognized or not) that are real breeds and not cross-breeds but I hardly think that anything called a Daisy Dog can be considered a breed, since it has a obviously $$$$ motivated name.

My favourites are Gundogs. Don't know what group that is over there.
Sporting group, although some of the gundogs might be listed in Hound group, I don't know what dogs are in the gundog group over there.
