:D Wow Sanvean, I think I have to add that one to my list of possible dogs, that baby is gorgeous. Do they drool like a St., I have a phobia of excessive dog drool which limits the dogs I have to choose from in that style from the working class.

:D When I leave the dogs & cats alone, they watch Animal Planet, if it's just the cats, they get the radio, now considering the amount of shedding that goes on I think they will start watching Animal Planet too. It looks like they have wild party's when the dogs are also gone.
Is this a NEW thing because members on another board had actually called State Farm and asked them their policies. That's what the lady said. They stated that they DO insure Pit Bulls BUT they DO NOT insure ANY dog that has bitten. No she did say that if your dog is trained in protection or attack or has already bitten someone, regardless of breed they will not insure that dog. They better not have changed it all of a sudden...but that DOES NOT surprise me... That is SUCH BS! So let me get this straight, so a guy can break into your house, steal your things...RAPE you...but if your dog bites him he can SUE??? Yeah, we were joking that if you caught the guy after your dog bit him, to shoot him where the dog bit him and let him prove your dog bit him. Doesn't make any sense, you can shoot someone on your property if you feel that your life is threatened but your dog can't bite them. Can we all shout BULLSH!T together??? :motz: Let's say your boyfriend walks in on the guy...can he beat the guy up or can the person being raped kick the crap out of the guy?? YES!!! Would the guy be able to sue then??? Yes, and will probably win. What's the difference between a dog defending you or a person??? NOTHING! This just PEEVES me off!!!! The judicial system is SOOOO fudged up sometimes! It is suppose to PROTECT the innocent NOT screw them over!

:-? She said that if someone broke into your home, and your dog bite them then you would be liable and they could sue you and your homeowners liability insurance would cover the bill. She said that no matter what the circumstance a jury would award against the dog just because it bit someone. You of course would be able to sue someone who was breaking the law but that would not release you of any liability of what your dog did, even if someone else let it out of your back-yard. Unfortunately as good of a deal as it sounds it just means higher premiums and the possibility of your home-owners insurance being cancelled.

 Warning: Bully lovers, especially K will be pissed! I just got back from a Kennel Club meeting. The guest speaker was from State Farm Insurance, she was discussing home-owners liability insurance and it's relationship to dog-ownership. In a nut-shell she basically said that if your dog bites anyone for any reason you are responsible, she also stated that your home-owners insurance would protect you regardless of where you are; ie-dogshow in another state. Of course the normal disclaimer of you need to check with your individual agent and notify them of the presence of dogs in your household. Blah, blah, blah. Anyways this is what made me mad. State Farm does not insure PIT BULLS! Oh and yes you would be proud of me for educating this lady on what the Pit Bull was originally bred for and that they are not the breed that has the largest bite history. I also pointed out that it is irresponsible breeding and not the breed itselg that makes it an aggressive breed. She still didn't really believe me but I made it a point to let her know that the breed was being discriminated against and that the problem was in it's training. She did tell me that she was educated at our meeting but that she doesn't write the policies, just sells them. One more thing, she would not tell us what constitutes a Pit Bull Breed.

:D I say the tent.

:D Thanks for reminding me about the photos, I will definately keep an updated photo of the babies in the camper from now on. Collapsable bowls are great to just keep in your vehicles. I learned the bleach trick from Deb's mom, thanks for reminding me of that one.

:-? To visiting: If you would like to have a respectable conversation about breeding practices, puppy placement and breed related health issues please feel free to join us, tell us who you are and about your dogs (pics included). If you have come hear to bash the breeds of members who disagree with you then we are not interested in discussing this issue with you. With that said I have nothing more to say to a guest who is attacking my co-members breed. Sanvean - I wouldn't waste your energy getting upset over that post.

:D Was this where you met the Ridgeback, please pm me and tell me who it was you met.

  Boy I thought I was an overprotective dog mommy. What you want to do sounds possible but I really don't think it's necessary. I would only advise you do this if you have someone you would be able to call and say I need you to go help my puppy RIGHT now or else your co-workers WILL end up having you locked up.

:D Oh this is absolutely wonderful, Sally, Rocket & Sandy love going to the lake and camping, although I really wouldn't consider it camping since we stay in a triple slid fifth-wheel with a/c, kitchen, bathroom, livingroom, t.v/vcr/satelitte connection. I call it the summer home. Tips for camping from a voice of experience: If you are going for 2 days, take 4 days worth of food, just in case. Make sure you take some gallon jugs of water from your home, dogs can be very sensitive to a change in water and the pipes at a campground can be questionable, the water at the campground I go to makes Rocket stomach upset. Make sure you take a bed for the baby to lay on; one for outside and one for inside. The one outside will get filthy and you really don't want to put it where everyone will be sleeping. Make sure you take something like Adams Flea and Tick spray to spray on ticks and a pair of tweezers to remove the ticks even if your dog is on preventative. Preventative doesn't keep a tick from biting and possibly making your dog sick so you want to spray a repellant on them like Adams. A emergency kit for dogs is a must, it should include things like pain-relievers, turnikit, muzzle, disenfectant, tweezer, dog-nail clippers or dremel, something for poisoning, upset stomach, pedialite, an antihistamine for allergic reactions, (Sandy once stepped on a honey-bee and her leg swelled up.) I'm propably forgetting tons of things but these are the main things that I keep handy. Oh ace bandage if the cut their paw or twist it somehow. You need a short lead to walk your dog with and a very long tie-out. I use two 6 feet tie-outs to make a 12 foot one. Make sure your tags are on securely, Sally lost hers right off of her collar one trip. Will let you know if I think of anything else.

:-? At work it's fine, at home I have to wait for my pop-up blocker to finish before I can start reading posts.

:-? Boy do I feel lucky. I haven't been bitten by a dog, but Miss Kitty got me pretty good with her claws once.

:( Sanvean - I understand what you are getting at. Unfortunately cross-breeders ignore that part of breeding, they will just plain not acknowledge the point has been made, they are seeing toooooooo many $$$$$$$$ to see anything else. Now I would like to back-up mees point. Ridgebacks were not cross-breeds, the original Ridged dog already existed, the european settlers inter-breed their hunting stock to better the african dog, they needed the dog to be more loyal, more this and that. Somebody did not sit down and decide one day that they needed to create a new breed with a ridge down its back and call it a Rhodesian Ridgeback so that they could make a lot of money. Unfortunately, most of the cross-breeds bred today are purely comestic, no working functionality to them.
I am new here and might not make any friends with this post but I am going to pipe in on this one. I am a form over function guy when it comes to dogs. Its great that people rescue. Mixed breeds and shelter dogs are great pets. But its not for me. Its not that I feel that I am above owning a rescued dog. I won't apologize for prefering a dog from good working stock. I grew up in a family that used working dogs every day. We worked dogs on cattle and used them for hunting wild hogs and birds. (not all the same breed) I may never work another dog but I cannot or will not ( probably some of both) change the my feelings on my dog selection. I strongly feel that a dog should be able to perform the task for which it was bred.
Johnny as educated as you sound and make yourself out to be, one thing you need to learn is that form is the way the dog looks and function is what it's breed to do. If you are a form over function guy then you could care less about the function of the dog your only interested in what it looks like.
I love that legend! Me Too! I always imagined that man reached out first, probably merely for companionship, when he noticed wolves foraging in his cast off bones.
I would love to believe that it was man who reached out first. My rationalistic nature tells me that a starving injured pregnant wolf that had been scavaging garbage would reach out before man would, his compassion for the life of the pups would cause him to help the poor animal rather than kill it and eat it.
 Ch-Ching!!! :niewiem: What's a dog lover to do but pay the bill?
Get pet insurance. My bill for Sally's shots was 98.40 for shots & heartworm test (negative) & medicine. I got 95.00 back from the insurance company. :B-fly: Frontline is 48.50 and I will get another 15.00 back on it.
Healthy dogs = priceless :D
Don't get much better than this. Glad the babies are healthy.
Wah! :bigcry: :bigcry: Thanks for posting the links for me Kiger. But when I click on them I get the dreaded white "page cannot be displayed" screen. I do appreciate your thoughtfulness.... :( It might be on my end. We have a server here at the house and a wireless network connected to it for our laptops. Maybe it has to do with how this is all configured? I can't see pictures from Bahrain either, and they can't see mine. Can you see the ones I post? I'll try again later. Thankyou!
Keep on crying Behle, her hubby is a cutie, drool, drool. Your babies look like they're having a blast.

  Welcome Elsastarr. Why don't you go to the new members section, introduce yourself to the gang here and tell us about your babies. Oh! there is a little prerequisite on this site. PICTURES! Elsastarr, stay away from the angel; It's MINE!
She was basically on water only yesterday. Only had a littlem pumpkin and yogurt. She would not eat anything at all last evening. So, (before reading this) I gave her some rice, pumpkin and yogurt and she ate it right up. There has been a significant change in our household - JAKE :o She has eaten a sock again :o (but I didn't know about it until after I gave her) Rawhide to eat :o A triple wammy :o :o :o How about fish oil Cassie? Any good for this?
This may be the culprit, make sure that the Rawhide you give is made in the USA only, sometimes other countries use stricknine (sp) to sure the bones and rawhide and it can cause digestive problems if not death to our four-legged children. Also rawhide is very slow to digest so if she had a tummy full of it and she swallowed a sock then the sock could be causing the rawhide to scratch her intestines and make them bleed. I hate to hear that she's sick again, good luck. When Rocket ate the frog I made him a batch of yogurt, pepto-bismal, oatmeal and pedialite. Then I took him off all food and water for the night, let him have water in the morning, some yogurt for lunch and the yogurt, oatmeal, pepto, pedialite mixture for dinner, the next day I added oatmeal to his lunch, then on the third day I introduced kibble to the evening meal.
Wow! That workingpitbull.com site is awesome -- thanks for posting! I did disagree with some of her info on choosing a breeder, but perhaps she was only talking about pit breeders. (She said that no good breeder breeds more often than one litter every couple of years, and that she didn't have words bad enough to say about people who had more than one litter at once. I would say that definitely doesn't apply to breeds like Maltese, which only have one to four pups per litter!)
Actually Sanvean, That is true when referring to litters from the same bitch or line. A responsible breeder will not breed a bitch before s/he can evaluate how the litter turned out and that can take up to 2 years, once the litter has matured s/he can tell what true temperment is and what the hip results are. If the breeder is not pleased then s/he knows to end that line, if they are outstanding then a repeat breeding might be in order. Courtnek, That is true about the RR. They were not bred to fight the lion, only to hold it at bay until the hunter could get within range and get a shot out. The breed was used in packs, they would in essence taunt the lion, surrounding it and taking turns distracting it, however if the lion did attack the RR could actually survive if not win.

:D Sally sleeps right next to me. The picture of her & Rocket in my thread at the Picture topic was taken in the office. That's her bed she claimed it when she was 4 weeks old. -
:( Prayers coming from here and The Paw-Paw Gang (Sally, Rocket, Sandy, Pumpkin & Miss Kitty) have their paws paws crossed.

:D You have some great information on German Shepards, do you know anything about Alsatian Shepards, my mother had one and she was the greatest. My mom could ALWAYS trust her instinct, she was very dependable, trustworthy, great with children, loved to chase her ball for literally hours. The Shepard she has now is very shy and timid, Shelby was never shy or timid, she loved HER kitty's. She saw a stray cat trying to beat up her kitty and went to help him out.
