1. :D Glad to see that you are concerned about your babies health. Those meaty treats that you are talking about are basically nothing but junk food or as I call them Candy. The Wellness treats should be fine, from what I understand that's a pretty good product. There are some threads with some links to home-made recipes.
2. :-?
It is very, very occasionally done by experienced breeders, but ONLY ones who know in great detail what they are doing and why. I would never, ever recommended it being tried by someone who hasn't been breeding dogs (and showing them and studying genetics) for decades.
From what I understand, experienced breeders will do it if they are trying to SET TYPE or if they are trying to find the culprit of a serious genetic fault in order to eliminate that line from the gene pool.
3. :( :o Sounds like Hewett is a little trigger happy. What a sad story. Welcome to the forum doglover34, are you in that part of TN. What breeds do you have? Please go to New Members and introduce yourself, we would love to see pics of your babies.
4. :D Sending you my respect and appreciation for such a noble deed. She's a sweety.
5.
Well I'm not sure, but make sure Elsa keeps Savannah well away from me... I might be forced to "borrow" lil miss red nose.
You do know that Savannah is her brood bitch and Zaire is her stud dog! Of course there will be no breeding of brother and sister.
6. :D Good for you Quentin.
7.
I have nothing to say to you Rosebud, except that you are evil. and now even though it is only 10 am where I am I now need to go :drinking: heavily. My liver is cursing your name.
 Me evil, how can you say that. I only want the best for my Ridgies. A very proud momma. I can't help it if you have a serious weakness for the breed. So what type of RR do you prefer substance or refinement?
8. Thanks guys. I have pondered over that Kennel name for several months and decided that that was the name. Rowie, That's Sally-Rose she was stalking a grasshopper in that picture.
9. :D Sally & Rocket finally have a home page at least. It has taken me forever to decide what the Kennel name will be. Let me know what everyone thinks. It's just a home page but it's a start. http://hometown.aol.com/preciousreflects/myhomepage/index.html
10. Well, Sally now has a homepage at least, not as spiffy as Kato's; but then again since he is now famous....
11. :D

I noticed that you didn't have the disclaimer "At stud to approved Bitches only."
Because he's not! He's not old enough to have his CERF and OFA done yet. I'm not sure if I ever want him to find out how much fun girls are. :D I'm not sure how to do a guestbook. Guess I'd better go find out.
That's why I don't have a site for Sally-Rose yet, as well as I can't decide on a GOOD kennel name for her.
12. :D Absolutely wonderful job. I noticed that you didn't have the disclaimer "At stud to approved Bitches only." Well, Sally wouldn't qualify anyways.  Yes, I would love to sign Kato's guestbook.
13. :D As of right now I am not a breeder. But I am working towards breeding RR's one day.
14. Sent my e-mail. His quotes are in orange.
Dear Mr. Travis, "I'M TOLD THAT PIT BULLS ARE THE MOST POPULAR BREED OF DOG FOR GANGS IN OMAHA... PIT BULLS ARE USED FOR ILLEGAL DOG FIGHTS HERE IN THE CITY...THERE'S BIG MONEY IN THIS SICK STUFF... THIS MEANS THESE DOGS ARE BEING BRED IN BIG NUMBERS TO BE AGGRESSIVE TO ATTACK TO KILL..." So am I to understand that you would like to see the product of illegal activity take away one of the freedoms that this country allows us to have, OUR OWN CHOICE OF .... I understand your concern with the Pit Bull breed, but as you stated yourself it is gangs breeding this breed for the purpose of illegal activities. So shall we take away our freedom to bear arms because gangs go out and kill each other and innocent by-standers, what about taking away our freedom of privacy because of the number of terrorists that "might" be living in our "LAND OF THE FREE" country. My point is that there comes a time when the solution to a problem is not to ban but to enforce existing laws. The Pit Bull has been an American Icon for a long time, why would you want to take this away rather than educate responsibility and accountability. "JUST LOOK AT THE DAMAGE THESE DOGS CAN DO... I THINK ALL DOGS ARE CAPABLE OF BITING... BUT PIT BULLS ARE CAPABLE OF KILLING... OR AT LEAST DOING SOME SERIOUS AND LIFE CHANGING DAMAGE..." You yourself have acknowledge that all dogs are capable of biting, you fail to realize that ALL dogs are also capable of being trained to attack and kill; although I doubt a small breed like an Italian Greyhound would be very successful at it, the capability IS there. Do you really think that banning a specific breed is going to stop "gangs" from breeding dogs to fight each other. Do you not realize that they will eventually turn to another breed, and if we ban that one what next, keep going down the line until we reach the beloved Lab or Golden Retreiver. Again the solution to the problem is to educate responsibility and accountability and to enforce the existing laws. "I DON'T WANT TO HERE THE ARGUMENT THAT IT'S NOT THE DOG... IT'S THE OWNER... TELL THAT TO THE PEOPLE THAT GET ATTACKED..." Ah! but it IS the owner and the breeder. It would be greatly beneficial for You to read the standard that the breed is supposed to exhibit. From the AKC breed standard: "Over the past 50 years, careful breeding has produced today's American Staffordshire Terrier who is affectionate, reliable, and an especially good dog for children. The American Staffordshire Terrier is a happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog who makes a wonderful family pet. The American Staffordshire Terrier is adaptable to country or city living, the only thing that will break his spirit and his heart is lack of his owner's fond attention." "The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has great affection for people. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are gentle, affectionate, trustworthy, and loyal. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier requires a rigorous exercise regime to maintain his muscle tone. He will live happily in the city or the country as long as he is given a good physical workout." "Bull Terriers are playful, fun-loving, sensitive, and affectionate dogs who make wonderful pets and companions, despite their tough appearance. They have tiny triangular eyes, and short erect ears. The Bull Terrier is happiest when they are with the people they love. The closer the better. They are miserable and unhappy if shut away in a basement or kept outside away from human companionship." "The Bulldog is revered for his loving disposition and ability to get along with other dogs. He loves the companionship....The disposition should be equable and kind, resolute and courageous (not vicious or aggressive), and demeanor should be pacific and dignified. These attributes should be countenanced by the expression and behavior." Do these really sound like dangerous breeds. I guess the children who played in the show Little Rascals had a guardian angel protecting them from there vicious Bull Dog. That the Spuds McKenzie dog was too dangerous to work with in the beer commercials, etc Bad breeder's equate to bad breeding's which in turn equate to bad temperment's, conformation and health, which in turn equate to a poor quality dog. Responsible breeding practices, breeding for health and temperment produce a product that is not only predictable but one that is true to the written standard. Again the solution is to educate responsibility and accountability and to enforce the existing laws. Bye the way, I do not own any of the Bully breeds mentioned, just someone who doesn't take to kindly to my FREEDOM'S being taken away because of ignorant, uneducated, irresponsible people and law enforcers who have decided that it's easier to take away the freedom than to actually enfore the law.
15. Well even though it is quite obvious that the breeder is not a responsible breeder, it's the previous owner that's really the true idiot. Why on earth would they want a 2 week old puppy.
16. :D :B-fly: What a beautiful star. What mag is that in.
17.
V - Vet. The chap whose phone number you learn by heart.
All 5 of them. I have 4 of the 5 numbers programmed in my cell phone. office number emergency office number (back-up vet's 5 numbers) home number cell phone number wife's cell phone number
18. :-? Same here, except my vet will judge the situation and what kind of surgery to decide whether or not to allow me to attend. I don't think I would be to wild about a vet saying I can't be in there to hold my babies head and calm them while they get examined, that would be like the doctor telling you to leave while they examine your human infant or toddler.
19. :D Welcome back! How's was the vacation and where are the pictures?
20. I'll be the devil's advocate for the Pitt. You said that the Pitt took off running with a small child, well let me throw a pitt defense theory out. Let's say the child was trying to be a responsible owner and the pitt owner opened their front door to see what the pitt was so interested in; not knowing stray spaniel mix was in their yard; pitt darts out after spaniel mix, child chases pitt, you happened to come out to check on mix at about the same time child is getting to dogs. I wouldn't report the pitt owner until you find out who they are and their side of the story. Report Spaniel mix owners regardless.
21. :D What a wonderful thing you did by adopting Duke. Lots of love, encouragement and treats will settle the baby in and make him comfortable.
22. :D Glad everything worked out fine.
23. :-? Courtnek & Marble are both correct. Large breed dogs do not actually mature until between 18-24 months, they need the extra energy that a puppy food can give them, however since their bones will have a tendency to grow faster than the muscles, tendons & ligaments can support, it is not advisable to feed an enriched puppy food, you want to slow down the bone growth in large breeds so that as they grow they maintain a healthy balance. The best thing to feed to a large breed dog is a formula that is for large breeds & puppies, the puppy part of the formula is for medium breed puppies, the large breed can be used from about 8-10 weeks of age until adulthood (2-3 years). You want to look for a "lower" protein number for large breed puppies, anything around 23/12 (protein/fat) should be fine. Puppy formulas are somewhere around 28/17 and the protein/fat ratio is too high for a large breed, more protein means faster growth.
24. :-?
Does anyone know of any in Canada? I think Colby would love to do agility.
Check with the CKC and do a event search in your area. Go to the show and talk to people and the Show Chairman.
25. :D Check out this link, it's an upcoming agility trial in your area. Get with the show chairman and they will be able to give you tons of info on clubs in your area and how to get involved. Good luck, I hear it's really, really addictive. One thing if your babies are not registered with the AKC you will have to get a special number for them (can't remember what it's called) before competing. This one is Aug 8th & 9th http://www.akc.org/dic/events/search/index.cfm?action=plan&event_number=2003514107# another link: http://www.akc.org/dic/events/search/index.cfm?action=plan&event_number=2003014302# http://www.akc.org/dic/events/search/
