Psychiatric treatment for woman who breastfed puppy
StarFox replied to Seijun's topic in Everything about dogs
me too. Who was the star that had to go to the hospital because the guinea pigs got, ummm, "stuck"?
You mean Richard Gere? -
Ahhh...Hmmm well he certainly is very interesting looking. The first two pics were kinda cute but the last pic freaked me out! I do love his mohawk though!!!

I threaten Zebra all the time, not that he listens to them or anything. My threats are generally: -I swear I'll pinch your nose off! -Do you want a spanking? -Do we need to take this outside? -I swear I'll sell you to the neighbor who will eat you! The only one that works is "Lets go to bed now!", which means that he will be put in his crate.

Psychiatric treatment for woman who breastfed puppy
StarFox replied to Seijun's topic in Everything about dogs
I think she needs medical help
I concur. There is just something not right about it. I don't think it's a healthy persons train of thought to think "Hey I just had a baby and I have this new puppy, I'm going to breastfeed it just like I do my child!". Especally since she thinks that it is somehow going to bond her dog to the child. :-? There is just something..off about her. Plus I can't imagine that her milk is very nutricious for the puppy. At the very least she needs to be evaluated by a pshychiatrist.
My take on things: If it's ok to breastfeed a human baby, what's wrong with breastfeeding a puppy? ~Seij
Um a human baby comes from your own body. Also a dog is an entierly differnt species of animals. If a woman was breastfeeding a deer or an opposum would it still be ok? -
Ewww. :o :stupid:

Ohh how great! :D For what store/company is she modeling for?
-
My dog likes to chew/eat our rabbits hay. I think he just likes to chew on it, when I catch him chewing on it it's sticking out of his mouth like he is some hillbilly dog.

HEY CRESTED! Good to see you again! :D How have you been?

New Letter Grading Law- What do you think?
StarFox replied to StarFox's topic in Everything about dogs
In principal its a good idea but I don't think they should have a grading system. A simple pass/fail approval would suffice and wouldn't let pet shop owners have the notion that running an unhygienic business is accptable.
If this system is like the one we use for food places the busnesses will get warnings and fines depending on the infractions. The health department checks back with the resturaunts every month or so, so a "B" place has a chance to be an "A" place. Or an place might be an "A" one month but be a "C" the next month. So places that arn't clean arn't realy "accptable". -
Ohh great letter Court! I think I'm going to do the same right now. :)

New Letter Grading Law- What do you think?
StarFox replied to StarFox's topic in Everything about dogs
Well I'm not sure exactly how it's suppose to work or the specific things they are looking for. It's a new law so I suppose they are going to have to figure that stuff out as they go along. Honestly I haven't seen any letter grades in pet places yet. I personally think it's a great idea but as you said Court I can see where allot of problems could arise. I tried to find some specifics on the law but couldn't find any. -
The dog seat belt is probably the best thing we ever bought. I don't have to worry about Zebra jumping on me while I'm driving, or getting his big ol' head in my way. I don't worry that if we get into an accident that he will get thrown out of the car. It's a nice feeling of security to know that your protecting your dog the best you can. :) This is the one we have. It's easy to get on and will fit any seat belt. Los Angeles County just passed a new law stating that all pet shops, boarding kennels, and other animal facilities must be inspected and graded using an "A-B-C" system. For thoes who might not have a system like this it is used regularly in places that serve food. An A is 100%-90% and means that they might have minor infractions but fix them in a timely fashion and are clean. B is 90%-80% . When a place might have many infractions or takes to much time to fix them. Or might also not be a clean place. C is 80%-70%- Has many large problems, bugs and rodents. Is never clean etc. Here is the new law-"The director, or his or her duly authorized representative, shall inspect every animal facility annually as provided in Section 10.28.050, and shall report on the findings of said inspection in an Animal Facility Inspection Report. The letter grade issued by the department shall be based on the most recent Animal Facility Inspection Report of the facility. The director is authorized to recommend appropriate licensing or other legal action as set forth in Section 10.28.290. (Ord. 2004-0036

I know that us "dog people" and the dog community know how horrible WoC is but your average person has no clue about it. I wonder why Dateline or 20/20 hasn't done a show about places like this? Or gone undercover to expose how horrible and greedy these people are. Maybe if we send letters to Dateline or 20/20 they will do an expose' on it? Just a thought since it seems that no place can shut them down. Bad press would definitly hit where it would hurt them the most, there pocketbooks.

Come one, come all! Pet adoptions in Los Angeles this Sat/Su

Hey Jeff I checked with my "boss" and she told me that we wern't going to be there but the other branches of the SPCA might be. Too bad because if the Pasadena shelter was going to be there I'd probably go. -
Eh well Zebra has had diarrea all day. He woke me up at 6 this morning while he was trying to get out of his crate. He went the bathroom 6 times in a 10 hour period. I've checked everythiing but don't see any evidence of the ketsup pack. He is active and happy so I'm not too worried. I'm sure sick of picking threw poo though. :-?
-
Thanks..I feel a little less worried now. I tend to freak out when he gets into things. I'm gunna check his poo in the morning...that should be fun. :-?
-
Zebra just ate an entire Ketsup packet. The little ones that you get from the fast food places that are kind of a plastic covered foil. :o What do I do?! It's 10:00 pm here and all the vets are closed. Will he pass it? SOMEONE HELP! Kat, DO! Anyone. :-?

Glad that everything went well and she is acting like herself. :D

Anybody who works in a vet/shelter/rescue situation....
StarFox replied to gooeydog's topic in Dogs in need
I don't know about the shelter/humane society that you plan on working at but at the 3 hour Training Sessions that I had to go to we went over how to disinfect ourselves so our pets don't get anything. I also talked to my vet about brining something home that zebra could catch and he told me "It's highly unlikely that you would bring anything home and if your pet is current on all vaccinations then the possibility is miniscule. I'm more worried what YOU will catch like ringworm and mange." :o (my vet has gotten ring worm three times and mange twice in his 26 years working as a vet and his pets have never gotten anything) At the Humane society I work at they told us to wear a pair of shoes that you won't wear in the house. To always leave the shoes ouside or in the car. Don't wear any good clothes. Take off and wash your clothes as soon as possible. Wash your hands and any part of your body that came in direct contact with an animal. And use a special dissinfectant on our shoes called Lime-a-rix (I don't remember the exact name). So that's exactly what I do. I leave my shoes in the car, put them on when I get to the shelter. Wash my hands before I leave and spray my shoes. Take my shoes off before I get back in the car and put them in a bag. When I get home I put my clothes in the wash before I even touch Zebra, in fact I don't let him get anywhere near my while I have thoes clothes on. Then I take a shower. Honestly it is the biggest pain in the ass but I'd rather be safe then sorry. -
What an arse! See there is this thing called animal control..he should have called. But no instead he kills the dog. :x Uh I can't believe he was found not guilty...guess that just tells people that if a dog is on your property you can just kill it for whatever reason.

Sheesh I'm sure there are a million things that I do that make non-dog people think i'm nuts. -Zebra goes to the vet twice a year for check ups. Gets new hips that costs thousands. And I don't even have medical insurance,so I can't pay for any of my meds. -I make sure he eats the best foods....that happen to be the most expensive. But I only eat on the go and if it's cheap. -If Zeb takes the couch, I take the floor. -Zebra has an expensive orthopedic pillow for his hips that he rips up ever 3 months or so, so I always need to buy him a new one. My bed is broken and I can feel the springs in my back when I sleep sometimes.

First let me say-Uh what a day! Today was Zebs vet appointment to get his vaccinations. No biggie he LOVES the vet and I like taking him there because he gets to meet new people and dogs. So we get to the vet and all goes well, he is in good health, great teeth, eyes, etc. EXCEPT that he is overweight..allot more then I would have ever guessed. He is at 92 lbs!!!! :o   I almost started to cry when they weighed him. I feel so bad that he is that fat! I feel like such a bad mom, I should know better then to let him get like this. So he started on a diet today, he gets NO treats, food, scraps, and what ever else, unless I know about it or else heads will roll. See my dad tends to give Zeb his sandwiches that he dosn't eat for lunch. :x  Also since he is getting older his metabolisim is slowing down. And the worst part of it all is that I have been neglecting to take zebra out for his regular walks/play time since I've been so busy the last 2 weeks. Our vet had commented on how smart and well behaved Zebra was....HA! Zebra proved him wrong....... Tonight Zebra decided to jump up on the table and take something that looked good to eat....Chocolate. No and of course not ANY chocolate...but Dark chocolate that is 60% cocoa! :o Of course I can't blaim zebra for getting on the table since someone (my brother) had left the open bar of chocolate on the edge of the table. :nono: :wallbash: So I call the vet to ask if I should induce vomiting and they tell me to bring him down right away since he ate such a large amount. So off to the vets we go again! They take him and tell us to come back in a hour because they have to induce vomiting and they want to keep an eye on him. Well he walks off and a few mins later I hear this horrible cry and it sounded exactly like Zebra. I started to cry.  So I left and worried for the next hour. When I came back and they brought him out he looked so sick and sad. :( He was tired after all of that and slept allot but is now back to his old self. :D Oh by the way the "cry" that I heard wasn't Zebra after all, it was another dog..so I was upset over nothing. Sheesh this dog stresses me out!!!!!!!!!!!!

I leave Zeb in the house, there really is no other option. I don't have a fenced yard. I'm not going to leave him tied up outside. I don't want a dogsitter. I have him pee and poo before I leave. If he dosn't have to go before I leave I put newspaper on the floor for him just in case he does have to go. I'm never usually gone that long, and if I am long my parents and my brother take care of him for me. I leave him a couple of toys. I don't like leaving him his kong anymore because I'm afraid that he will choke on the food in there and no one will be home to help him. Although all he does is sleep in his crate while I'm gone. The longest I've ever left Zeb home alone is probably around 8-9 hours. I guess typical "work hours"...but sheesh thinking about it now that seems like a long time to be alone.. :(
