Ok I mentioned before that Zebra is scared when I take him outside. Well thing have only gotten worse. He refuses to go out now. I can put his harness on him but the second I open the door and try to get him out he freaks. If I'm lucky I can get him out the door and onto the first step but after that forget it. His tail is between his legs and he tries to slam into the back door trying to get back in. So I tried to take him out the front door, well this time he nearly runs me down trying to get out the door then freaks out again when he relizes he is outside and tries to run back in. So I FINALLY got him outside and I say "Lets go for a walk!" in a very happy tone and he stands there and won't move. He use to LOVE walks now he hates them. :-? I tried to get him to walk by giving him treats and he refused treats. So I said forget this and just started to tug on his leash..eventually he walked a little but kept trying to run back home. About half way down the street he freaks out AGAIN and backs out of his harness and manages to actually come all the way out of it and starts to run down the sidewalk. This is were I had a heartattack and yelled "Zebra STOP!" Thank the lord that stopped when I yelled it but jesus this is rediculous. You can tell that he hates even being outside by the way he looks, his tail between his legs and his ears back. I feel bad for him but I'm also losing my patience with him (I know I shouldn't). I don't know what to do. I don't have all the time in the world to sit outside and coddle him because he is scared. I thought that just standing outside with him and letting him get use to "outside things" would make a difference but it hasn't. I mean how do you get a dog that hates being outside, outside? Also I forgot to mention that last weekend my uncle and two cousins came over and Zebra was scared of them the entire time they were here. He was scared of family members that he sees regularly and use to love! Also he was never hurt or scared by my uncle or cousins, I watch him like a hawk when people are over and this is the first time he has acted like that with thim. He was never afraid of people before but he seems to be digressing in every way possible. We start a new training class at the end of this month also but I'm starting to wonder how well he will do in that since these behaviour problems have arised. Uh..I'm just so damn frusterated.

I have to give Zeb three Glucosamine tablits every day. Usually he will take them with no problem but occasionally we have to trick him. I will hand them to my brother like it's some kind of treat i'm giving him. Then my brother will "accidently" drop them on the floor in front of Zeb and my brother will yell "No Zeb don't eat my food!". For some strange reason Zeb will eat them all up. What a weirdo.

Congrats!! I'm glad you decided to get him. :D

.....when he will only eat the expensive brand of hot dogs. Dog forbid I buy the cheap ones and put peices of them in his kong. Nope only the 3 dollar a pack hot dogs will do. Sheesh. .....when you relize that you have two full (large) boxes full of dog toys but buy more toys because "he dosn't have this one". .....when you relize that your dog has more collars then you do pairs of jeans. Does anyone else have anything to add about there spoiled dog(s)?

Same problem here. Zebra hates the rain and refused to go the bathroom outside. Since it's been raining so much here he goes the bathroom inside now (on paper). But it's been rather sunny lately and when I take him out he will just stand there and refuse to do his buisness. Arg...sometimes I wonder who trains who.

I have to agree with All American and Isailor. If I were to re-home my dog when it snapped or bit someone we would have had to get rid of him almost imidiatly when he had gotten him. From what you say it sounds like your dog was a stable well behaved dog before he had knee surgery. He is probably still in pain and you should definitly see a vet and have him checked out. I'm just wondering if maybe your child grabbed the dogs tail or touched his knee before and your dog thought that your daugter was going to do it again. I'd advise you to keep your dog and child apart at all times untill you can figure out if this is a medical or behaviour problem. Please don't kill your dog just because he was being a dog.

Does your dog like to imitate the things you do?

Everytime we get thoes 12 packs of sodas at the store my mom will open the box and put a few in the fridge. Well Zebra will go to the other soda boxes that we just bought and open them up too. He has done that since he was a puppy. -
 I was a day late!!!!! I went on saturday and he already had a huge adoption list so I didn't get him. :( Oh well I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Ok I don't remember how many of you remember the dog 'Shaker', that looked exactly like Zebra that I was going to get. Here is the other thread about him. http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=18542&highlight= Well he is back at the shelter! I don't know why or how but he is back! Is this fate? Should I get him? I actually screamed when I saw him on the web-page. It's just too weird that the ONLY dog that I felt I really needed showed up at the shelter again.

:o Wow that is really creepy looking. How does the dog stand up and not fall forward with that big head??? :o
-
He has a Dog house, why not use it???
StarFox replied to Sharpeigirl's topic in Everything about dogs
My friend leaves her dog out at night and when it rains she opens the heated laundry room for her and the dog also has a dog house. Well sometimes when it rains the dog will just sit in the rain and shiver like it's cold. My friend tries everything to get her into the warm laundry room but the dumb dog just refuses. ..So yeah I really have no advice just thought I would tell you that your dog isn't the only one. -
The only ones I feel sorry for are the dogs. I feel sorry for the Shar Pei that it got attacked at his owners were too busy taking pictures to even attemp to stop the attack. I feel sorry for the two "pitbulls" because now they will die because there owner was to stupid to take proper care of them. Also I call bullshit. The woman said that it was like "losing a child". First if they actually cared about the dog he wouldn't have been chained up outside unsupervised. Secondly they would have tried any way they could have to stop the attack, not go find a camera and watch their dog being attacked. My dog is like my child and if he were to ever be attacked I know I would try everything and anything to get the other dog off. I'd go threw hell and high water to keep my dog safe and it pisses me off that these people act like they cared about there dog when it is so obvious that they didn't.

Wee I got them both right on the first try. :D I had my mom and my brother try to pick them out and they both picked the Dogo Argentino. :o
-
I have nothing to add except to tell you mouse that that pic is the cutest ever! Such an adorable squishy face!!!!!! :D
Honestly, I think you were a whole lot more polite than I would have been, I can't even post what I would have said to the SOB :o :P . The "Hey lady" would have gotten him an earful for having crappy manners :bad-words: .
Yup same here. You were way nicer then I would have been. I probabaly would have kicked the crap out of him if he called my dog something rude. :evilbat:

 I don't know why but this part made me laugh out loud when I read it. Just thinking about people doing this is very odd.
In the kitchen, several guests have knocked over the garbage and are going through it. In the backyard, several people with little spades are digging holes.
-
I really don't think the dogs even barked. They pretty much welcomed him like he was one of there own! It was odd. Maybe they could sense it wasn't real. Dogs can sense the way people feel, and since it was a fake breakin then maybe they didn't see him as "bad." Does that make any sense? It does in my head, but often it doesn't to everyone around me. My husband is usually looking at me like "WHAT." I can just see all of you doing it too.
No it makes perfect sense. I've had friends come over and walk in and my dog hasn't even barked and he dosn't even know some of my friends. I think it would be toally different if someone came in with an evil intent. I get what your saying.

Oh I love that show! The two burglars are totally hot!.....but that's not what were talking about huh? I saw that episode and lauged how the homeowners were so shocked that the dogs didn't attack or anything. I also loved it when the theif gave the dogs the rawhide bones and the dogs were like "Food! Yum!"
you should not have hesatated (sp) :(
I know but the weird thing is for once I wasn't thinking about ME. I thought about the dog first and what the dog needed. I probabaly couldn't give him the attention he needed. I'm going to be so busy with school trying to get my certificate and i'm so career driven that I don't know how much time i'm going to have. Sometime being responsible sucks. :(

Sad to say that I didn't get him. I went to the shelter and he had already been adopted. While i'm a bit sad that I didn't get him I'm glad that he got a good home. I don't think it was ment to be and that's ok. In the near future i'm going to be doing allot of work with school and volunteering so it's probably better that I don't have another dog. Plus I dunno if I could deal with another dog that had Zebras personality...Zeb is a handfull as it is.
-
Yeah Zebra is shedding right now too and it's horrible. I was folding clothes and he was standing right under where I was folding them and I accidently dropped a black shirt on him. That shirt went right back into the wash it was covered with so much hair. And now I've started to use the sticky rollers to de-fur my clothes before I wash them.  I've never tried vacuuming him though because he is deathly afraid of it but I've found the best brush ever! I got it at a beauty supply store and it's this platic brush with small nubs on it. It isn't very big and you can hold it in the palm of your hand and it has a ring so that you can put it on your finger. The best part of it is that it gets all the undercoat out and pulls the loose hair out. I've brushed one side of Zeb for a couple of mins and came away with a bag of hair. The little comb only cost me 75cents too!! Cheap and usefull!

Oh Izzy that is just mean!!! :x I have played with him, I saw him at the shelter when I was volunteering there on wensday. He is very sweet, he is active but no too much. But after some consideration i've decided to go and put an application for him on friday but ONLY if there isn't a waiting list for him. If there is one other person that wants him I'll still put in the app but anymore than that I'm not going to bother. So I'll let you all know what happens on friday.

Uh oh..I'm in trouble and I don't know what to do!! We got this dog in at the shelter yesturday and I have to have him! My parents actually said ok so now it's up to me to decide. He is a little clone of Zebra so I'm totally in love with him. I already have the application filled out and it's sitting on the table. I have untill tomarrow(weds.) morning to put the application in..arg I don't know what to do!!!!!!! :-? He was an owner turn in because they couldn't take care of him anymore. He is about 4 months and super friendly. I think he is a GSD/golden/ chow mix. Do I get him? I want him because he is soo cute but realisticly it's not about me but about him. I don't know how well another dog would fit into the house since space whise it's kinda small. But Zebra is bored durring the day and he needs a playmate. Poor Zeb tried to play with our rabbit the other day and she would have none of it. I wish my parents would have just said no, it would have made things a million times easier!!!!! :(

ARG! I'm soo annoyed. This all started last week and has just been building. (sorry this is kinda long) Ok so at the shelter they train new volunteers every 6 months or so, well they just trained a new group of them. So last week i'm at the shelter and there is this girl there and she introduces herself to me and tells me that she is a new volunteer. I'm like ok that's nice, it's always good to have new people. Well she goes and tries to take a dog out of one of the kennels and was having some trouble. I asked her if she needed help but she said "No I can do it". Alrighty so I go and do my own thing and i'm about to get a dog out when I see this black blur run behind me. The girl accidently let the dog out with out a leash. No biggie it happens allot. So the kennel manager and I round up the dog and get him leashed. The kennel manager hands the leash to the girl who manages to let it go. ..Ok..maybe she didn't relize how strong the dog was. So the K.M hands the leash to her again and shows her how to hold it properly and he starts to walk away....when she lets the dog go AGAIN! The poor kennel manager and I were like what the heck is she doing?! So she gets the dog back again and takes it into the play yard. Ok here is the thing about the play yard, it has two gates, one closes automaticly behind you the other does not. Your ALWAYS suppose to check and make sure that the non-automatic gate is closed before you let the dog go. So she takes him in the play yard and I 'm close behind her because she forgot her kennel keys in the kennel! (all the kennels have locks on them). So lets re-cap so far ok? She has let a dog loose 3 times in the span of 3 mins or less and manages to leave her keys in the lock where any schmo can take them and take any dog they want. :-? So I get to the gate and she's already inside and of course she dosn't check the other gate and lets the dog go. The dog runs out the open gate, turns the corner and runs out the main gate into the freaking street! The street that the shelter is on is very busy and people go about 40 mph down it. So you can imagin the heart attack I had chasing after her and the dog and seeing the dog loose outside. Thank god that the kennel manager saw because he was able to get the dog back. About 10 mins later she gets a verbal lashing from our "boss" who then tells her to stick with me because I know what I'm doing and am a (and I quote!) "great volunteer and hard worker". I have to say that I was so happy when she said that because it means that she see's the work and dedication I put in every week. But back to the moron volunteer. She then decided to ask me every freakin' question about dogs possible..and I sooo kid you not about these "Why do dogs shead?", "Why is that dog peeing there?", "Do dogs always drool when they eat?" :o Ok that was all last week this is just today- So apparently she can not take dogs out anymore since her little incident with the dog running into the street. So she has decided to brush the dogs...threw the kennel bars. Here is the problem. Dog sees plastic brush...dog thinks "ohh toy!"....dog grabs brush and chews it....stupid vounteer is not allowes to go into the kennels...stupid volunteer can not get the brush back...dogs eating plastic...dog gets sick. :wallbash: Ok I saw the aftermath of this when the brush was in a million peices and of course she is brushing a dog that has not been behaviour testes so I can't get the brush out because I don't know if the dog is going to attack me or not. Ya know we have a very good system for knowing what kennels we can and can't go into so it pisses me off when this stupid girl sticks her hands into a kennel that she has no clue about! Me and another volunteer were like WTF is this girl doing here? I appreciate her wanting to volunteer but come on, you should at least know the bare minimum about dogs if you want to work there. I mean asking me why a dog is peeing is just stupid. Letting a dog eat plastic is stupid. Almost killing a dog by having it run into the street is just inexcusable. This girl has to be at least 17 or 18 so I don't know why she isn't learning the basics or using common sense. Common sense tells you that if there is a big red sticker on the kennel card that says "CAUTION:Will Bite"..you should not stick your hand in the kennel. If they don't get rid of this girl I can guarentee that she will get bitten very badly. (Omg..this is really long..I'm sorry I'm just annoyed with her that I needed to get it all out. )
there was a book written back in the 70's called "The Happy Hooker", where she devoted a whole chapter to her sexual exploits with dogs. My sister kept reading passages from it to me. (Gee, thanks sis...) Legally its called "Beastiality"...and it must happen fairly frequently for there to be a law written for it... I guess the dog is ok, as long as he wasnt hurt, but she really needs a psych eval....
OMG! I remember reading that book! I got up to that chapter and I couldn't read the rest of it because it grossed me out so much. Stupid book. :-? And I agree that woman soo needs an evaluation because, (as my freinds and I say ) she ain't right in the head.
