Is it me or is something really, really wrong here?
Malamum replied to atghylin's topic in Everything about dogs
Just because someone pays $2,000.00 for a dog doesn't guarantee that they will take care of it. The cost is irrelevant because the price is relative depending on the individual person. $2,000.00 might seem like an astronomical sum to one person but it may be chicken feed to another. Also, all dogs have different needs when it comes to care. Some require lots of grooming, some require lots of exercise, some require extensive training etc.... if a breeder doesn't interview prospective owners, how will they know if the new owners even know what is involved in taking care of that particular breed. In this case we are talking about bull dogs, you may or may not have seen in other threads K's description of what is involved in caring for a bull dog -

I'm not very crafty so can't crochet or knit
I cannot crochet because I am left handed
Mouse - why does being left handed make a difference? I'm left handed too so am curious.
Q. Does DogValley put me through an "interview" process to buy an English Bulldog? A. No, we have a "live & let live policy", and a belief that buying a dog should be a fun and easy experience. At DogValley we trust that a person who makes a sizable investment in a dog is going to value it and take proper care of it.
In other words - we don't give a shit who takes our dogs and what they do with them as long as we get the cash.  -
I've never played with a laser with Indy (and now don't think I ever will) but I'm pretty sure he would think - this bloody thing is too hard to catch - why should I waste my time

Tommorrow, tommorow... it's only a day away!!!
Malamum replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Congratulations Crested!! I can just feel your excitement - it's radiating through the internet :D We'll be expecting lots of pics on Monday  -
LOL I only pointed it out cause I thought it was funny. I got a mental picture of the dog running around with a rubber mat attached cape like fashion
-
Excellent suggestion Courtnek!!! Though I think you meant to say put a rubber covering over the door - not over the dog
-
:o :o :o Wow Aroura - just read that thread - it really got out of hand didn't it.

If someone tried to rob our house Indy would probably lie on his back on the floor and say if you rub my tummy I'll help you carry the stuff to the car

Take care all of you on the east coast.

LOL I understand your frustration. Indy is the same. We always have to keep an eye on him as he is forever getting stuff off the benches. Though in his case I think he does it for attention most of the time  Since he can't be trusted inside on his own he is left outside when we go out. However I was pleasantly surprised a few days ago. I must have not shut the door properly and when we came home there he was inside. I quickly ran round the house to take stock of the damage and was quite surprised that there was none. Zoe is still quite young isn't she? I'm sure if you keep things out of her reach and keep letting her know that counter surfing is not acceptable, she will grow out of it.

My first reaction was that you can't give in to these people and give them what they want otherwise it never stops - same goes for kidnapping or terrorisim etc.... However having never been in that situation that's very easy for me to say that now. If it actually happended to me and there was no other option then I would be prepared to pay anything.

R&P I am at a loss for words... You and Snow White are in my thoughts and I am wishing so hard for her safe return. I wish there was something I could do to help

I know it's hard not to worry but he'll be fine. :D -
Contrags on the arrival of Pauly. Fingers crossed he hasn't done himself any serious damage.

When out in public Indy is always on a leash. Even if we are doing stuff in the front garden I bring him out with us and have him on a long rope. It's the law here to have dog's leashed at all times except in designated leash free areas.

As the others have said there is no such thing as one breed being "better" or "worse" than another. I think suitable is a much better word - depending on your lifestyle and what you want out of a canine companion you need to find the breed that is suitable for you. Yes, there are people that don't train their dogs. However there are also people who get a certain breed based on it's looks alone and are then surprised and disappointed when it does or doesn't act a certain way or if they can't "train" a specific characteristic out of it.
