Pit training

I second what Abker said on the treats and training the dog to focus on you rather than the other dog. I just wanted to add one extra thing..... you need to (well I have found this anyway) get your dogs attention before he sees the other dog. Once he is focused on the other dog and going ballastic it will be very hard to divert his attention - even with yummy treats. When we are out walking I am always looking ahead for approaching dogs to make sure I see them before my dog does. I then move off the path a bit and get him focused on me and the food rewards then the other dog can pass by with any reaction from my dog.
12. I'm with BK and the knuckledusters...... I think I really would have lost the plot if I had been in your situation. Izzy, once again you have gone that extra mile to help an animal in need. I really believe in what goes around comes around, so you have got lots of good stuff comming your way.
13.
I agree with Shenanigans version of Culling, that's what I understand it to mean as well. Dogs not up to scratch are crossed off the breeding program and placed in pet homes.
In most instances I think that is what breeders mean when they refer to culling. However from Anne's post I don't think that is the case with the specifc breeds she is talking about. It seems that since the breeds are not that popular, pet homes can not always be found.
14. Anne, I agree with everything you have said. It's quite disturbing that this is happening. I DO NOT think this is a case of the end justifying the means.
15. What a very sad situation.....once again I am floored by peoples lack of sensitivity. :(
16. Yes, must see more pics of cute little Kato :D :D
17. Congratulations. It really makes you feel good when an outing like that goes so well.

23. It's nice to see something positive said about Pit Bulls for a change.
24. I saw the Neo's at the Easter Show and they are absolutley gorgeous. I don't blame you for wanting one.
25. I think the question is not so much what dog is best for living in an apartment but more how willing are you to make the living arrangement work. All dogs need daily exercise and mental stimulation regardless of breed and regardless of whether they live in a house or an apartment; however I do believe that dogs that live in an apartment require that little bit more. If you are prepared to do whatever is necessary to make you dog happy and content then the breed doesn’t matter as much.
