Australia's most dumped, aggressive & barkiest dog breed
Malamum replied to Aroura's topic in Aggression
:x :x :x That was the biggest load of crap I have ever read. Why can't that man stick to plants and leave talking about animals well alone as he obviously has no idea!!
The aim of the exercise was to ascertain a satisfaction rating for each breed. The presumption was that loved or good dogs are less likely to be surrendered to the RSPCA
Bull!! Most dogs are dumped due to their selfish, lazy and ignorant owners.
Without doubt the survey indicates that the Maltese is Australia -
I can't even look at that site - it makes me feel ill. :(

LOL, I was going to add, it's not like you're near the beach anyway.

Just keep an eye on him and wait for it to pass through. If you don't see it come out the other end in the next 24 hours or so then I would call the vet. That is all the vet would tell you. If you took him to the vet now there is nothing they can do anyway. They'll only X-ray and then operate if they are positive there is an obstruction. I remember the first time Indy ate a plastic sandwich bag - I totally freaked and called the vet. All they did was tell me to wait till it passed through..... and it did.
running in the sand to me sounds like it could do more harm than good. Any oppinions?
I would assume that running on sand regularly would build up a good deal of muscle tone in the legs. With lets that are quite muscular there would be less strain on the bones and joints.

:o :o :o That really is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard.

That was a reallty nice gesture. It really is the small things that can make somebody's day.

Poor little guy. Sending lots of positive thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Thanks Judy, I think I kind of understand now. I had heard the names before and like Kat I thought they were slightly different breeds under the umbrella name Belgian Shepherd. That

You know how they say that everyone has a “twin” somewhere in the word. I bet the person you saw was Kiwi’s.

This is probably a pretty obvious one but it only really dawned on me the other day so I thought I would share my observation with you all. The closer you watch your dogs the better behaved they are likely to be. I have been walking both Indy and Kira on my own a fair bit lately. When I’m out with them on my own we have great walks and they are really well behaved most of the time. When both Michael and I walk them together their good behaviour seems to go out the window. They veer of the path to sniff everything, don’t seem to listen as much and in general just don’t seem to walk as nice. After a few times of being stumped and saying I don’t know why they walk so much better when I’m on my own, I figured it out. When I am on my own I watch them so much more closely and for lack of anything else to do I talk to them while we are walking. When both Michael and I are there we get chatting and I don’t seem to focus on the dogs as much. When I’m own my own I pay close attention to their body language and I can tell what they are about to do before they actually do it. That way all I need is give them a bit of verbal encouragement like “lets keep going” and a gentle tug on the leash and we keep walking smoothly. However when I have someone else with me and I get distracted chatting I sometimes don’t notice that they are about to veer off and sniff something until my arm and been pulled out its socket. It seems really obvious now but I didn’t actually realise how closely I watch them until I wasn’t doing it.

*Update* Odd-Looking Stray (dobe people please?!)
Malamum replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
Over here in Oz we tend to get a few cattle dogs or kelpies with blue eyes, so if she was over here that would be my guess, but since you are in the US I’m really not sure. I don’t know how common those breeds are over there. She is adorable though. Keep us updated on how you go with finding her owners. -
Good god! Why can't people mind their own business?

Excellent site Kat! You should be really proud of it.

This may be a silly question with an obvious answer but can Hubby walk her till your ankle is healed or the lunging is resolved (whatever comes first)? Otherwise I think her going to stay with your friend is a good idea. Nothing to feel guilty about by doing that.
