1. Well, Guy goes in Monday to be prep'ed for surgery on Tuesday. He should be able to come home by Friday. We have lots of questions for the Orthopedic surgeon on Monday since it will be a fairly new procedure that he will be doing. Guy would be fitted with an apparatus that are three rings (looks like a halo) and screws into the bone. The treatment is to turn the screws 2 times a day to lenghten and straighten the leg that he broke. The screws are attached by piano wire. Sounds rather painful, but we were assured that it would not be (I don't believe that). If I didn't tell you, he broke the humerous and the radius. The growth plate on the ulna closed prematurally due to trauma. The surgery is not elective....it is a "have" to surgery. His type of break is having the ripple effect, it is effecting other parts of his leg --- like his elbow, shoulder, back, and the entire leg. Donations gratefully accepted!!
  2.

....and some people sign on with several different names just for the sake of starting arguments!
    BUT WITH SHERLOCK, WATSON AND OUR FAITHFUL BLOODHOUND IT BECOMES EASY TO CATCH THEM
barrrrew, barrrrew (if you couldn't tell, I'm baying).
  3. :o  To update: the pup is well, happy and ripping around like nothing is wrong. He is living with someone else and is being looked after medically. We are just waiting to see what happens.
  4.

please go to www.barkingbuddies.com because you would fit right in there.
 snicker  And, you are welcome here under your OWN name. We all disagree from time to time, and it's ok. RIGHT??????
Yep, agree. Like me and Corgilady disagree over that she should breed her Corgis to Mastiff's.
  5.
Please all send 10,000 word essay subject matter "my life" to Hobbit to be in by Friday...thank you
:o :o
  6. Not everyone has the same income, or the same living arrangements, or nice neighbors, or the perfect dog with the perfect temperment etc... There are sometimes circumstances that may call for a dog to be secured or tethered out, either by rope, chain, cable, etc.... it may not be perfect, it may not be something that some of us would do, but --- given the alternative of the dog being ran over or hurt; and there wasn't any other means to keep this dog safe --- then tethering it doesn't look so bad. Yes, you are probably shaking your head and saying, "if you don't have the means to begin with then you shouldn't have a dog". I'm not talking about this. I am speaking of --- life changes that occur sometimes beyond our control. I would not, normally, tie a dog out. BUT, if I had to because of circumstances beyond my control --- I would, I would have no choice. I'm not going to judge anyone else that does this, because I don't live in their shoes, nor do I live in their house or in their life. And I'm not talking about the people who tie their dog to a sofa in the yard, or the old junk car, or the camper shell, or the tree because they are not fit owners. Those type of people, I agree --- should not have any kind of pet.
  7. Darn, I missed it! Ebby --- just stop. You are not going to win at this. If you want to be civil and talk dogs, then lets do it. If not, please go to www.barkingbuddies.com because you would fit right in there. We might not always get along, but we try to be honest with each other and respectfull to each other and ALL share a passion and love for our dogs. Is that so hard to understand?
  8.
I dont know the people on here except by their posts. And some have posted right here under this topic that they actually chain their animals up instead of investing in a dog run or a fenced yard....THAT I have a problem with. Making an animal a target by chaining them up in a yard that obviously has accessability (or no need for the chain) is cruel and asking for trouble for the animal. And anyone who thinks that is acceptable shouldnt own a dog.
Ebby, Gonetothedogs, Guest and whatever else you want to call yourself: YOU have some nerve with your posts. At least none of these people DUMP their dogs because they get another one that they THINK they can make money off it ----- why? Because YOU think that this dog OWES YOU something in life. Now, who is the one being self-rightous? HINT: YOU. And, who is being abusive? HINT: YOU. Last, who is the cruelest of all? HINT: YOU. Sorry, Roo, that was nasty. Delete it if you need to, it won't hurt my feelings.
  9. ....and some people sign on with several different names just for the sake of starting arguments!
  10.
I am looking for link to find the pills sold for dogs... Vet was going to give me some...
Which pills are you referring to? Interceptor? I missed something.
  11. Dogwhisper, I wish I knew each and every person on this forum personally just like you do. Then, by knowing them, their everyday duties, their life style, their ins and outs, their schedules, their morals, their beliefs, etc ..... then I could sit back and judge them, also. How did you come to know every single person on this forum so well?
  12. ...and an all merle litter is possible even with the parents of your bitch. Also, a double merle bred to a black will produce all merles.
  13.
Hobbit sire was definately not another dog each time he breeds these two there are one or two solids .Here is a picture of the pups except for mine The one on the far right was the lightest one and he had one blue eye ,the black and white one has more white than my little bitch . The father had small white star covering chest , mother has white chest and thin blaze only , with two blue eyes .This guy is the only person on record having breed a full litter of blue merles (7 of them) and he is very anti white I have pictures of parents but Im having trouble posting them so Ill email them to you .
Koolie, I answered you by email before I looked at the pictures. My answer would have been the same, anyway. Personally, he is playing with fire (genetics hell) by breeding merle to merle. He has been lucky, I hope for the dogs sake that HIS luck holds out. At least the sire and dam aren't white factored. He could still achieve the same goal (I'm assuming he wants merles) by breeding merle to a solid and not have to contend with the possibility of incorporating deaf, blindness into his bloodlines. My opinion only --- because it's been my findings that people are going to do what they want to anyway regardless of what anyone else says. The lightest colored one on the end --- did he have his eyes checked? If not, he definately should before he's bred to anything and should definately NOT be bred to another merle. Again, my opinion. Not meant to offend just cringing at the fact that someone would actually throw caution to the wind with abviously no respect for genetics and breed this away. Maybe his luck is way better than the average person.
  14.

I think we all handled that rather well and adult like. Are we good, or what? 8) 8)
I think it was very grown up  Can we go and play on the swings now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!! I will bring cup-cakes, if you bring the ice cream. :D
  15. Hobbit

    Is it possible?

Hey, hate to be the bearer of bad news.....you still have to pick it up even in your own yard or pretty soon, the smell, flies and mountain of crap will be disgusting. AND it's not fair for the dog to have to live, play and walk in it's own crap. :-?
  16. Well said Roo. Well said Corgilady (sorry, I totally overlooked your post)! This Bud's for you also. :drinking: I think we all handled that rather well and adult like. Are we good, or what? 8) 8)
  17. Goo -- I've seen some dogs "not quite right" after their owner constantly used a laser light in play. It's the prey that can never be caught. The dog was a not normal after this. And the owner, just kept using the laser light. It's like the dog constantly looked for the red dot prey. Then, some dogs do just fine. Depends on the dog.
  18. Hey Jacsmom....tried appauding, but kept spilling!! :drinking: HF -- that was a very good post, by the way.
  19.
Better yet Hobbit, why don't you BREED them... sell them on the 'net..... wow I would like to have one too, think what you'd save on the dogfood bill....
I COULD use a break on my dog food bill. I could find suitable bitches at the dog park, vet clinic, or just driving down the road. Boy, that sounds like a plan! Of course, once you buy'em, they're yours, no guarantees, no vaccinations, no deworming, no papers.....okay, I'll registered them with Continential Kennel Club!  Disclaimer: Since some folks may not know that we are just kidding...I am just kidding.
  20.
BTW Hobbit, when are you planning on getting a teacup Aussie? I'm sure it would make an absolutely splendid herder... well if you can pull it's little teeth off your ankle before then, and if the goats don't step on it
I bet they would be fast little lightening rods!! There is a lady that has several unregistered, "whatevers", that look (sort of) like Heelers. She holds her male Chihuahua up so he can breed them .... what a site, I'm sure... then advertises them and sells them as "Miniature Blue Heelers, $300.00". Can you imagine!!? I just die every time I see her ad.
  21. Goo --- if a dog has *prey* instincts, genetically, it will always be there. Just because it wasn't nutured when she was young, now that she's free -- it's kicking in. Sometimes, their natural instinct (what they were bred for) takes a little to develope or for them to understand what that internal tug is all about. It sounds like she would be a great hunter. Hum....."Winner of the Dirt Dog Nationals" has a catchy ring to it!
  22. Let me clarify further (sorry, took for granted that everyone was familiar with this): it is specifically for pets. It 's not the livestock fence that will just about knock you down or so strong that you could restart someone's heart. Once the pet gets use to it, they WILL stay away from the fence and you can turn it off. Then when they figure it's off and start back to their old habits, turn it back on for a few days. It scares them, more than shocks.
  23. Deep --- gosh you are so right. Goo --- OMG, I saw an advertisement in the paper yesterday, "Giant Chihuahua's", I almost spit my tea out....couldn't get it swollowed fast enough because I was laughing so hard! I kept reading.... "We have mini and teacup Australian Shepherd's" ---- I finally had to stop drinking until I was finished reading the ad's!! TEACUP AUSSIES -- PALEEEEEEESE!
  24. It's all going to depend on her. Some females become easily distracted, some do not. Of course, a male can smell her a mile away and that is something you have to worry about --- the males (domestic and strays) coming to her while you are hunting.
  25. I guess I'd better clarify that: Electric fencing --- fence (wire or poly-tape) used on the inside and/or top of an existing fence.
