1. Pit Bull Lover, welcome! :) First off, I really do not intend to be mean, or rude, but I just have to ask you some questions. Breeding is NOT for first time owners. Serious breeders only breed for the better of the breed, to improve their standards. BOTH dogs must be registerd with the AKC. (Although there are dogs that aren't recognized that are still bred, there is no problem with that.) BOTH parents, and grandparents should be health tested. Some breeders will breed for the fast buck. Believe me it is NOT fast! Here are some things that you need to pay for. -Vet checkup and health clearances for both parents. -Food, whelping box, and all nesecarry equipment. -When puppies are born, health checkups for all of them, toys, different colored collars or ribbons to recognize differences between them if needed, medicine, crates, etc. etc. -Cropping for all puppies if needed. Docking too. All these may add up to more then 2000$! :o And those are SOME! I cannot think of the rest as I am too tired... If you cannot afford a vet checkup, then how will you afford everything else? Also, a breeder does alot of research, so he/she would know about Labour and birth. Did you do your research? Maybe I am mistaken. Please correct me if I am. Good Luck! :D We would LOVE pictures! -Rowie-the-Pooh
2. Seeing as he is 10 weeks old, I'm thinking he was brought home two weeks ago? :-? It may be the sudden change, stress, or even the food. I would not recomend IAMS, maybe you could slowly, gradually, change the food for a better brand. Did you slowly introduce the food? The way to introduce new foods is: first day changing Old Brand 90% New Brand 10% then after maybe two days Old Brand 50% New Brand 50% and then two days after that Old Brand 10% New Brand 90% after about two days remove the old brand off the diet. If that is the way you did it, then I think it would be IAMS. I myself have a Golden! :) I would LOVE to see pictures! :iloveyou:
3. They even have a breed with a registerd trade mark... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/kyileo.htm Too bad, I used to like that site alot. Although from personal prefrence some of the breeds are just NOT at ALL for me... :-? It can give people the wrong ideas...
4.
Rowie: Hmm... I don't know about the bond thing between my dad and I... You made a pretty tough question. He's away so much and... hmm... Wow... That's hard. We aren't THAT close, but we do get along (sometimes). Dad likes to be "the man of the house". You know, the one that makes the last decition wich drives me mad. This has really pushed me away and I must say I'm jelous with people with good relationships with their dads. I've tried many times to get through to him in various topics, but I've never succeeded. He still is against the whole puppy thing and thinks one dog is enough, but I've told him that I AM going to get the puppy no matter what he says because: 1. I pay for her myself 2. I bathe her AND Ben and do everything myself 3. The only thing mom and dad have had to do with Ben is to go on a few walks and give him food. I've done everything else and I'm still going to do everything with this puppy too. I allso told him that saying no to this puppy will just drive me away faster. So unless he wants me to move much quicker then I normally would, then he should say yes. So he did. But he's not that... hmm... happy about it. But it's true. If he would have said no, I wouldn't have sayed at home for that long, because I can't in that case find any way to understand him. And another thing. He doesn't even remember when I was born (the date). So... I can't say I know if dad and I have a bond or not. I'm much closer to my mom, but it's sometimes hard to get through to her too. With her I KNOW I have a bond. /Crest
So sorry to hear that Crested! If you have a stronger bond with your mom (it seems most of us do) then maybe you should talk to her about it and tell her how it is bothering you. Go out for some quality time. My mom and I go out frequently to make sure we stay in touch with each other and are close. I tell her everything that bothers me, and she tells me problems she's facing too! And since your mom is bound to have a bond with your dad, then she can explain to him how some things are bothering you. I'm talking to my mother on MSN now!
5. Most welcome angel! Any updates? :D
6. Crest, I'd love to offer advice but sadly, there is no cure I guess. My mom never used to think like that, but some of my relatives do, and there is no cure I am afraid. This may seem like a personal question, but are you close to your dad? Are you always "bonding"? I find that people who are close to you, understand you and listen better. I have absolutely no relationships with some of my cousins, and most of them think big, black dogs are bad. I cannot do anything about it. We don't have a "bond" so I am unable to speak to them freely. If you and your dad are close, then I suggest telling him all about the media and how it vandalizes the "dangerous breeds". Show him stuff on the internet, and also let him meet, if possible, "dangerous breeds" of dogs and let him see the sweeties they are. Just a thought.
7. I'm a little late, but good luck Courtnek! :D He does seem perfect! The cutie! Hopefully Freebee will like him! :D
8. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/alltopic.html#Thlthvet Here's a website. I don't think it can help though... I'll try looking for another one... WONDERFUL website: http://www.uexplore.com/health/dogHealth.htm http://www.caninehealthonline.org/ That is all I can find right now. Another suggestion would be Leukaemia?? :-? I'm not sure...
9. Oh my! The poor dog! And poor owner! Ellie, would you or your friend happen to have the "Ultimate Dog Care, A Complete Veterniary Guide" book? It seems like a weird question, but I got if off the internet and it is great for situations like this. I found someting! Heaemophila?? Wait, it's also the Von Willbrand's disease that came out negative. Okay, I looked up inherited diseases in the Airedale. So far I have: nothing. :-? I will look up bleeding, and get back to you.
10.
About shows etc, I would love to attend shows all the time but its so hard for me!!! I live kind of in the middle of no where. Apparently there is an annual show here, but do you think they advertise it? I've never heard anything of it except by the of mouth that it actually exists!
I hear yah Aroura! I live in the middle of nowhere too! I mean, the middle of the middle of nowhere! So I'm not alone...
11. Thanks Aroura! :D I'm so nervous... I can't tomorow.... after tomorow there MIGHT be a SLIGHT chance... and on Thursday it's my lil bro's birthday! :-? Hopefully Friday or Saturday... *heart thumps* Gulp, hope everything goes well! Thanks guys! :D
12. What a @$sHole! :x He had no right at all to do what he did! I would have done some serious damage to him and his bike! You took the whole situation really well, hooray for you! Thank Goodness Free is safe and well, and you and your boyfriend too! Who knows what goes on in minds of people like that? I say you ban him from visiting your property ever again.... the prick! Reminds me of a time my mom had visitors. Me and Rowie where out back, and the front gate was open (Rowie couldn't see it, the house blocked it). Everything was fine, until Rowie heard one of the guests laugh loudly...uh oh! I grabbed her collar, and took her out front with a lead on to meet everybody, to quinch her curiosity. I knew it would do good traning too, getting her to meet a bunch of people at one time. Anyway, to the point. I told my mom, and she asked everyone if it was ok if I brought Rowie to see them. Everyone agreed it was okay. So I brought her in on a short leash, and she sniffed everyone, the whole routine. When she went to sniff an elderly aunt of mine, she screamed bloody murder and took a pillow and bashed Rowie's poor head with it! Rowie yelped, oh you cannot imagine that yelp! It's like hearing you child cry, but worse. Rowie tried to get out of her way but she kept bashing her head again, and again! I was screaming and crying for her to leave her alone! My mom came in, and almost dropped the tea she had been carrying! She quickly went and intervened, and Rowie and I made a full retreat to my bedroom, where I cried and massaged Rowie's head. Now my aunt had something against Rowie the first day she had ever seen her. I'm sure she lied when she said it was okay for Rowie to come in as an excuse to hit her! My mom hasn't invited her over since...and it won't be long before she invites her either! Now what kind of trianing did that do to Rowie? Thankfully, she still isn't afraid to meet people, or isn't afraid of pillows. And how could Rowie leave my aunt alone if she wouldn't stop hitting her? I was really, really mad. My aunt denied saying that she said it was okay for Rowie to come in, and said she had allergies and that was why she had hit Rowie! Yeah right, she thinks my mom wouldn't know her aunt after all these years?
13.

(Oh,btw, I would love to start her on BARF, but I can't find any here as usual! :( )
Rowie :D :D :D Thats the great thing about BARF!!! You can get it anywhere!!! Ok, you can buy prepackaged veggie rolls, a "just add meat" kind of thing that you can't get everywhere, but, like you I live in a place where the "best" food is Eukanuba!!!! I don't buy the rolls, all you really need is a super market and possibly a health food shop and you've got all you need for a BARF diet! Veggies, meat, bones, maybe some kelp, yoghurt, eggs, cod liver oil or flax seed oil etc and thats all you need! Ahh the convinience and availability of natural food  :D
ohmydog! YES! :D Something I can FIND here! That sounds great and I've heard SO much about BARF! :D But at the moment, Nadooshkinz has yet again saved the day! The International Sales person from Canidae said that the only way to get Canidea was if I find a "Pet Food Wholesaler". I asked Nadooshkinz if there was one nearby, and she said yes! we are going to go as soon as possible, and see if they will be able to carry Canidae! :D If that doesn't work out, I can go BARF or ask Nadooshkinz dad to bring me Canidae from the UK!!! :D Thanks everyone for your help! You are all GREAT! Ok, come on guys, who thinks Nadooshkinz is an  ?
14. Aww, poor Pittie! What a horrible "ladyfriend"! Dogs are not little dolls or playthings that can just be thrown away when bored with. A pet is for life! I really hopethe pit finds a home soon! Angel you are true to your name! You truly are an angel offering a temporary home for Brandy! You go girl! Maybe if your friend tells the motel that he will crate his "Staffie" or "Ridgeback" while out or unsupervised they will be able to accept the dog ino the motel? :-?
15. I agree with Shara in that as long as the dye is not harmful then it's okay. I have no problem what so ever with a person dying their dog's fur. Not at all. What bothered me was the model saying that that was what they where bred for. I disagree with that model deeply. With the dog being as "Nature Intended", I guess I will change what I said. I used the wrong chioce of words, I guess. What I meant was I am against people cropping/docking dogs tails, or changing them physically. (PLEASE no offence to people who do, that was just in my personal opinion!). And now that I have seen the way HF put it, I will change the part about the coat color. As long as it's not harmful, then okay. I just like Poodle natural coats color better, that's all. My personal opinion. HF, I hope I haven't offended you in any of my other posts or in this one! I really didn't intend to, that was just my personal opinion. I do not, or will not, EVER think you are cruel for dying your poodle's hair-ever! I was against the model's opinion of :"that's what they're bred for", that's all. I'm really sorry if I offended you in any way!
16.
And WHY, I have to ask, is it ok, even encouraged, for cats to be mousers and rodent killers, but if a dog does that suddenly it's vicious?
Exactly! There are loads of known terriers who where bred for ratting, so it is in their blood. When they kill a rat or mouse or any other animal (as their instincts tell them to) they are suddenly vicious... :-? But when cats bring in a dead bird or rat, it's quite okay! Nobody thinks anything of it! I had 4 rescued cats, and other stray cats that I fed. Making a total of 11! (I spayed and neutered the strays ) And as I fed the strays, provided shelter (in a shed or box), and even nuetered and spayed them, I counted them as mine. Loads of times the cats would bring in dead animals. Ranging from mice to birds and even the occasional hedgehog! :o Nobody thought it was vicious, but when my dog brought in a dead chick one day, all the nieghbors complained (I have no idea how they found out :-?) that Honey may be visious and that she had a "killer instinct" and that I should that I should keep the cats away from her. And that if they saw her bring in a dead animal of any kind they would call the police because they where worried for their children! :x We made sure that she didn't bring in anything dead from then on! How RUDE!
17.

Courtnek: In both my dog books, it says that through evaloution, dogs became omnivoures, but I will agree with you. Thanks...it was 11 at night and I just posted what my dog book said... Sorry for the confusion... I stand corrected....
Dont be silly - no need to apologize at all. I was just trying to explain the need for protein in a dogs diet. There are a lot of people out there who believe that dogs dont need meat, because look at all the commercial foods with little or no meat in it. But people created those foods. Like I said, if given the choice, the dog will choose meat. Wolves still have a functioning appendix, and it is now believed that the appendix in people was originally meant to kill off bacteria from raw meat....I dont know if the appendix stsill functions in dogs (have never heard that it didnt) but if that statement is correct about it's usage, it would show why nature prefers them to eat meat. It is believed that over time our appendix's stopped functioning when we started cooking our food. Grains are basically carbohydrates - "instant energy" as it were. They metabolize down quickly into sugars, which raises your blood sugar way high, like for a race, or a fight/flight situation. Meat metabolizes slowly, and stays in the body longer, which allows for the long haul instead of the short energy high. Wolves would need it to survive - the hunt isnt always successful and they can go days without a meal. If the kill is big enough, they will eat their own body weight in meat at one kill. This will hold them over till the next successful kill. Dogs generally get fed every day, so the huge intake of meat is not necessary, but because of the way they are designed, they do need meat protein to be healthy. I dont believe we have yet bred that need out of them. sorry for the lenght, and Rowie, no need to apologize! :D
Thanks Courtnek! :D :buzi: I learn something new everyday! Does anyone know of a good dog brand in the UK? :) Again, thanks Court!
18. Very good read indeed! Although I won't be an animal cruely investigator, it was still nice! I read all the Dog Fighting articles...
19. How weird! It is time for Rowie's annual vaccinations too! I'm afraid I'm forced to... :( Required by law...
20. Mouse, thanks, but I don't want a veggie diet anymore! It was just a thought...what do you feed your pooches? :D
21.
I think a dog should be as nature intended
Me too, although I believe it is the owners chioce wether or not to dye their dogs fur or not. I love natural ears, tails, and natural colored fur!
22. Thanks Mei-Mei and StarFox for handling that for me... Oh and BTW I didn't have a problem with them DYING the dog, I had a problem with them saying it was OK and torturing the poor dog. As StarFox pointed out. Their fur wasn't bred to be dyed, it was to protect them. You can dye your poodles fur, but what that lady did was wrong. Plain wrong. And just because everyone does it doesn't make it okay. Everyone smokes but that doesn't make it okay. And dying your dogs hair because people think it's "cool" or "cute" is just sad. Sorry, but that's how I feel about it.
23.
Hey, if mine looked like that, I would do it too. Yeah, the hubby and I could ride off on his big motorcycle to Sturgis (SP)!!  :o

24. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Took them long enough! Next up: THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
25. When are they due? :) She looks so cute with the belly! How many weeks pregnant is she?Or has she just become pregnant? DETAILS!
