DogPaddle, there is no such thing as an over protective breeder, it only means they really care about what happens to their beloved pup, but wouldn't we all? Ferky1, welcome and congrats on your new pup! Firstly, I would be ringing the AKC and the American Shitzu Club and letting them know the situation so they don't refer this breeder to anyone else! I'd be sending the breeder the vet bills too!!! Lilys breeder was very concerned to hear of Lilys aggression problems to the point where she wont be breeding her mother again. She still calls and is planning a visit, she cares alot about what happens to her pups. I can't give you advice on the hernia because I don't know much about them, but do have it treated when he is desexed as then he will only have to go to anesthetic once. If the breeder wasn't concerned and even admits she has sold pups before that have had one their whole lives, then thats even more reason for you to be wary of her and let the AKC know about her bad practices. If she knows there is a history of it she should have the pups checked and if found positive sell them on a desexing contract for a reduced price and discontinue breeding from that line of dogs. About the yeast infection, what are you feeding him? A natural, raw diet often proves to help these sorts of problems just disapear. Same with the itchyness, if its an allergy a natural diet can fix that too. The itchyness could be due to fleas too, by the sounds of the breeder she isn't much good and so her dogs probably are infested with fleas. Hope this has helped and good luck with your new puppy, we need picks, and fast!!! :D

MWAHAHAHAHA, we hold the power!!! Hazel, more pics of Coal are needed. Rosebud, hurry, get the pup and post some pics... I'll hurry and get those photos of Donna developed - think of the power we will have when we combine it!!! :evilbat: *evil laugh...*

The first thing we did when we got Belladonna was go straight to the shops and buy her some chicken carcass'!!! She gets so excited at meal times and sits there and chews, and chews... and chews.... Its great for their teeth, especially as when they are teething most so called "chew toys" don't give their gums the excercise they need, rmb's do. She also gets some of the fatty bits from the other dogs lamb off cuts to help with her coat. At the moment she is getting two kibble meals a day, seeing as its really inconvenient to defrost bones for three meals a day, but when she's bigger she'll be getting all raw too :D Oh, by the way, I'm in the yahoo raw feeding group. I just posted about feeding puppys - they are pretty good though will tare you down about feeding veggies, which I disagree with because I do beleive that veggies have their place in a dogs diet. Its worth a look though!

Glad to hear your taking Zebra to training, this will be a big step towards you two 'understanding' each other better and hopefully getting over you unfortunate problems. It sounds like you love Zebra very much and are willing to do anything to help him, I think with the time and effort you are obviously willing to put in together with the new obedience classes Zebra will get over his aggression problems, maybe not completely, but enough that you wont have to think about finding him a new home. I hope everything works out for the best. Thanks for the update 8)

Yes ellie, it does :D . I woke up this morning with the greatest feeling, no more exams, no more stress, and a new puppy waiting for a cuddle! Lily is getting over her aggression problems, which I must admit I thought would never happen and she absolutly adores Donna, she even lets her sleep on my bed! Carol, thanks for you concern, you do have a good point, the pup is fine now though. The girl who brought her to training had taken her to the vets when she was sick and got some medication for her. She had the same stomach bug as Lily did at her age by the sounds of it. The girl had also wormed and vaccinated her, which was good of her. Our other dogs are up to date in their shots, Lily is due in a few weeks. Belladonna is just a little down in condition at the moment, not sick. Her coat is dry and she was skinny, but is putting on a bit of weight now. We took her to the vet yesterday to weigh her - she's 10kg :) . The vet fell in love with her and just kept on giving her treat after treat. She will be going back for micro chipping, desexing and her next lot of vaccinations + to get her dew claws removed shortly. Daisys mum, I wish you lived closer so our pups could meet!!! :D -
Ok, we all think our puppy is just the most adorable thing in the world, no? Well, I just thought it would be a great idea to post a topic where everyone could post photos of their babys, not a competition, just a place for us to go when we're feeling down or just need a quick 'puppy fix' I'll start with Tessa and Lily, Donna will be up as soon as we get some pics developed!!! Oh, I was planning on making this a sticky, but can't do it. Maybe one of the mods could make it a sticky???

Oh congrats Daisysmom!!! I know how you feel after our new addition two days ago  Ok, I own 1 beautiful boxer, Lily, and a kelpie/bull terrier/cattle dog mix named Tessa. Claire (my little sister) owns a poodle/chihuahua cross, Puddles, who also lives with us though my sister doesn't. And the day before yesterday dad brought home a brand new puppy of his own! Her name is Belladonna and she's half black lab, we think the other half may be a german shorthaired pointer, though its hard to pick!!! She has extremely long legs and a majorly long tail and her head is thinner than the usual labs, but her nose is long - any ideas? Like I've said before, I'll get pics up when I can!!!! Oh, and a siamese cat who thinks he's a dog! Meeko

Yeah, its great isn't it? Even though dad's always loved dogs he's never owned one of his own before - so technically this is his first dog! I'd forgotton the joys of puppyhood though and will probably have lots of questions!!! She's a ball of uncontrolled energy and has already peed on the carpet twice, so I've sworn to put her out every 20 minutes now! Then she was chewing on our mat and wouldn't stop, I kept on having to chop bits off and trying to distract her while also trying to study for tomorrows exam. She couldn't have come at a better time though because tomorrows my last exam and then I have three weeks off to help her settle in and to train and socialise her :D Can't wait till training starts up again! -

Thanks bk, she's only supposed to be on trial for the moments, but I know dad would never send her back and she's going to be absolutly spoilt rotton! We're already planning for her to start obedience on the 20th of July (When training starts back up). We just took them all to the park and it was so funny watching her play with Lily! She's so quick and just hangs off Lilys lip, its hilarious! I'm sure all of you know the excitement of bringing home a new puppy, so you'll all know how happy I am! -
Well it was competition day at dog training this morning. When I woke up it was grey and rainy - I was worried obedience would be called off, but we went anyway and when we got out there the clouds were clearing and within half an hour it was looking towards a sunny day. It was very windy and still a bit rainy when Lily was doing her examination so she wasn't completely on the ball. She got first place though! But no one passed the course, which is fine by me because that means Caz (the pit bull, Lily's friend) will be in our class because he just graduated from Level 1. So now I have a nice blue ribbon to hang underneath both of her previous 2 place ribbons! It was so great, she was so happy and was playing with all the dogs - on lead!!!! I bought her a longer lead the other day for training and I think its helping with her aggression as she can play further from me so doesn't get so possessive. Well then we played doggie games - Lily got special prizes for all of them because she was voted best dog in each! We played doggie 0's and X's where one teams dogs had to sit and stay while the others had to drop and stay. If the dog moved they were out of the game. Well, Lily stayed for nearly half an hour without moving while all the other dogs came and went and no one won because Lily was the only dog there who stayed longer than a couple of minutes!!!! I was so proud because in training I only ever leave her for a few minutes and today I had to walk right away from her with her lead loose and all these other dogs running around her being commanded to do things and I just stood in the distance watching her hoping for the best and she was a complete angel! Everyone was so amazed  The best part of the day is still to come though :D Well, we finnished up there and had a bbq lunch while the prizes and places were being calculated. All the doggies were happy and grinning because they all got big bags of treats etc except this little puppy in the corner. A girl had brought it there today in hope to find her a home. Apparently her neighbours dog had puppys and one day this puppy had escaped for a few days and when it came back her neighbours refused to take it back in. The poor darling apparently had a bleeding mouth and was looking extremely unhealthy and malnourished. Over the next few days it got very sick and lost ALOT of weight. This girl couldn't keep her so she was looking for a home for this gorgeous puppy. Well, I know dads a sucker and if he patted it he wouldn't be able to resist, so I made him pat her and now we have a new dog!!!! :D   :bday: I'M SO HAPPY!!!!! Hazel, you'll be happy to hear she looks a bit like Coal, actually I keep going to call her Coal accidently  We think she's a labradore crossed with maybe kelpie and Dalmation, Doberman of Pointer, not sure but she has that lean look and the floppy ears of one of those breeds. She's maybe 14 weeks old? Not sure, but she's so cute!!!! Tessa was happy to meet her and Lily is excited to have a new "toy", they've been running around the backyard like maniacs together  . Puddles will get used to her, as soon as Puddles is in a playfull mood she'll be fine too :D Like I said before I'M SO HAPPY!!! There's no words to describe just how happy I am, its like the worlds problems all seem to dissapear when you get a new dog. Well, she's dads dog, but I'm still over the moon!!! Dads always been the biggest sucker for labs, and thats how I knew he'd crumble just touching that sweetie. At first when I said "pat her" he said "don't be silly" because he knew as well as me, as soon as he touched her he'd have to take her home  We couldn't decide to call her either Donna or Bella, so guess what? We called her Belladonna!!!! She will go a long way, she's VERY smart, eager to please and extremely on the ball. I look forwards to a long and happy life with her!!!! :D Pics will be up asap!!!!

I was feeling around for it today and couldn't find it anywhere. Then I had a look for it later and found it, it is very small. I'll keep you posted but I was wondering, seeing as prices differ around the world, how much more/less would it cost to remove than desexing?
-
Tessa's fine, a whole lot of panick and loss of sleep all because she over ate!!! :-? I'm kinda embarressed for jumping to conclusions like that, but I guess it happens to all over bearing mothers! I'm just glad I didn't make an emergancy call to the vets to get them here at midnight only because my dog was a little fatter than I remembered her to be that morning!
-
Yeah you guys are probably right  After reading all these articles on it it was kind of on my mind and seeing Tessa's fat belly just tipped me over the edge!!! Sometimes she's sneaky and jumps the fence and eats the neighbours cat food - I bet thats the culprit!!! Its nearly two hours later and she is lying infront of the heater ("her" spot), now I think I'm the only one with the stomach ache, "false sympathy" I'll call it, but the pains that sharp its given me a headache!!! Well, guess I'd better get to bed, got a whole day of study ahead of me and I've got to be alive for it!!! I will get dad to keep a close eye on her though and wake me if there's any thing out of the ordinary that she does - I have a bloat site open that he can look at  Well, goodnight then! :D
-
I want to be sure she's not just fat because I fed her too much today and then got paranoid she has bloat because of all the reading I've done on it today. She's peacefully asleep at the moment, but beleive you me, I'm keeping a very close eye on her, she's right next to me. I'm so tired myself at the moment, I can hardly keep my eyes open. But i'll stay awake until I know she's ok. Dad seems to think she's fine though.
-
 I don't know what to do, I just posted that thing about bloat and the dogs just had a fight and now I think Tessa has bloat  I don't know what to do, I'm going to call the vet, thats what I'll do... its 11 pm but her tummy is like a balloon and I just looked at that sight and she is showing a few of the symptoms. Oh no, this is terrible
-
No, not recently. I remember when she got into some snail bait and I had to give her shots of vallium :o . She got a lump between her shoulder blades then, poor darlin. But nothin like that recently.

My dogs are fed on a raw diet, Tessa is completely raw while Lily gets a cup of dry food a day as well as her bones and pureed veggies... though that will change next shopping day when she goes completely raw like Tessa, I'm hoping it might help with some of her aggression issues. I usually give them chicken necks, chicken backs and lamb off cuts, but bought them a Turkey wing each yesterday and they loved it!!! I think I'll be feeding alot more of them in the future. I also feed liver with pureed veggies to which I add an egg 4 or 5 times a week, yoghurt, oil and whatever else I have on hand. They occasionally get a little honey. I used to give Tessa cod liver oil which she loved and it was really good for her, I'll get some of that for them both next shop also. After reading that stuff on safflower oil I'll definatly be getting some of that next shop too, and just rotate them. As it is high in vitamin E that is great because feezing destroys vitamin E, which is the only thing dogs would otherwise be missing out on with a raw diet. Kelp is another thing I add, full of goodies. For variety sometimes they get kidney, heart, tripe, brains or the like instead of liver. The dogs diet has been a bit all over the place lately, just trying to find whats best for them - every time I change it though they just keep getting healthier and healthier!!! Lily is probably about as healthy as a dog can get, but I still am going to take her off the little bit of dry food she does get each day because that is nasty stuff!!! Ick, I wouldn't eat it so I don't see why she should be expected to! :o
-
Damn, I hate having to take the dogs to the vet! :o Well its the weekend now so I can't do it right away, I'll take her on Wednesday (I'm not putting it off but I've got a REALLY important exam on Tuesday that I think I'm going to fail). I thought it would be benign, which is why I wasn't paniking too much, but still, I will take her to the vets. Maybe he'll give me a discount for having such a cute dog
-
I was just feeling Tessa over a minute ago for any scratches or anything she might have when I came across a little lump on her upper right shoulder blade on the muscle. Its a little smaller than a ping pong ball and its not an absess because there is no scab or anything on top. Its a little mobile and will move when you wobble it. Its got me kinda freaked out :o Could be some kind of cyst? Any ideas? If it doesn't go within the next few days I'll have to take her to the vet :o

If you can't get the food you want talk to your pet store and tell them the facts about these "bad" brands and why stocking something of higher quality would be better for the whole community, not just for you. Maybe they'll listen and realise that they'd be helping themselves as well if they stocked better foods. Yoghurts a great thing to add to a dogs meals, it has so many benefits. There was something posted here a while back.. oh, found the link - http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T045700.asp Also adding pureed pumpkin is great to regulate stools, it worked for Lily. A couple of raw bones a week is also always a good idea
-
Cool, its great to know maybe I did make a difference!!! I've been on there along with someone else I noticed and was constintly telling them all how cruel and heartless they were. That just made my day :D
You lecture people on responsible dog ownership every chance you get. Yes and this is why i'm now knows as "TheDog Nazi" to ALL my freinds!
Yeah, same here but the funny thing is that recently I've found when I'm not lecturing about dogs I'm talking about this wonderful forum - Dogo of course!!!
