1. She's free now. Its terrible it had to end this way, my thoughts are with you. Run free Hazel, you sweet little angel
2. Don't worry if she is young, younger dogs heal better and faster. Lily has a lump where she was desexed about a month ago, its already going. Don't worry, she'll be fine :)
3. GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!! Cauze the longer you stay the harder it is to leave! Then it starts to get in the way of your work, social life and other commitments... its a trap!!! Beleive me, I fell into it and now I can't get out! :o
4. Oh Shara, I don't know what to say! Its terrible things have worked out like that, never blame yourself though, I promise you ITS NOT YOUR FAULT! Lily is dog agressive, all the socialisation in the world hasn't changed that, its not my fault, and its not her fault either, its just the way it is and it breaks my heart every time I think of it. You are only doing what is best, she has lived a good life with you. I'm glad your parents have decided to take you to the vets with them, when my first dog was hit by a car she was paralized but the vet told us if we gave her excercises every day for a week it may get better. Then the day came when the week was up and the appointment had been made for her at the vets. Mum dropped me at school that morning and I spent the whole day in agony wondering whether I'd have a dog to come home to. I didn't, and I'm never going to forgive mum for that. Even when my cat was put to sleep this year and I went with him I didn't stay and hold him while he drifted into his long sleep, I was on the floor crying, unable to move, but just the fact that I was there and he knew his mummy still loved him no matter what was the only thing that mattered. Oh I'm crying now!!! I miss my cat  *sniff*... great, I've got a visiter, bad timing!!!!   Shara, I can't say I know how you must be feeling, but I can say I realise how bad it must be for you, and my heart goes out to you. I'll say a prayer for Hazel when I go to bed tonight. Stay strong and give Hazel an extra hug from me. Let me suggest that your next dog is a rescue dog, there are plenty of dogs at shelters who need loving homes and if you buy an older dog you already know what its temprement will be like. I hope you, or anyone else here (or anywhere), never has to go through anything this heart breaking ever again  :(
5. Yeah I'd feed them both BARF without the kibble too if I could, but being a poor uni student without much time to prepare meals I really can't. I feed the meat and veggies in the morning and the kibble at night so its got a long time to digest while she sleeps. I know the whole raw meat in the same meal as kibble thing, so I don't do that.
6.
You have to sign a declaration stating you do not own or have these breeds on your property. Queried the local ranger and he said there weren't any Fila or Tosa in Aussie. Just shows what they know!!! Some Q'land owners have had dogs PTS after the supposedly expert identification just because of breed, others have sent their dogs interstate to escape this ridiculous situation. I don't know how anyone can keep up with what's going on apart from attending every Gov. sitting and Council meeting to hear what is being done without consultation with people who know.
Or some people are just letting their dogs go so they don't have to deal with it. I ran into one of the girls from dog training while I was out the other night. I didn't regodnise her until she said "my dog and Lily are best friends!!!", then I remembered, her dog is the only dog at training that Lily doesn't try to fight. I asked her weather she got him from a breeder or something, he's the most gorgeous Pitt I've ever seen, she told me she found him running down the middle of the road in queensland. She said she thought he was a staffie cross with some am staff in him, I havn't seen many pitts in real life but I do know a pitt when I see it, I picked it from that pick the pitt site first go and I know her dog is a Pitt. I told her and she's like "oh really! I never would have guessed!". I told her about the BSL in Queensland and she agreed he'd probably been let go to escape having to be pts or something terrible like that. He's a gorgeous dog, I can't see any other reason why he would have been on the street! Good thing she didn't take him to the pound though because he wouldn't have been there more than a minute before getting the needle, not even half a chance to prove his worth :(
7. I've no doubt they will do something about it, but not until the numbers have declined that much that the gene pool is so small and they will probably loose the species anyway. Good old UNE!!!! Maybe I could team up with Gisela and get the word out? We've had a problem with pure dingo numbers for years, another case of people not desexing their dogs creating havok for our country :-?
8. Hey I can filter your water for you!!! Well at least I will be able to after tomorrow... I'm doing a prac in chem tomorrow where I have to filter water  Anyways, just thought I'd add my two cents... I've never seen Wellness in any of the stores here, but I've heard its a good food. I know alot of foods don't agree with all dogs tummys, I know this better than most because for the first 9 months of Lilys life I couldn't find the right food for her, her stools always came out like runny ice cream, then I put her in some kennels for a week while I was on holidays and you know what? The first thing I noticed was that she had solid poop!!!! They fed Eukanuba there, so even though my budget disagreed with my decision, I switched her to that. Now instead I buy her pedigree principal and feed her a good deal of fresh meat, bones and cooked pumpkin with kelp, yoghurt and an egg every day, she's thriving. If I had the time and the money to make her up a proper BARF diet though there's no doubt thats what I'd feed her, tried it before and both the dogs thrive on it. Of course if you wanted to switch to BARF its well worth buying some books and subcribing to one of the BARF mailing lists. Whatever you choose, good luck! :D
9. That just makes me sick. I wish I could just take one of those poor doggies and give them the loving home they deserve :(
10. Just a word of advice, I know you probably didn't mean it literally when you said "you wouldn't think twice about getting another dog... or two or three" but really think about if you even want just one other dog, let alone two or three. You see, I didn't really think twice when I got Lily, I NEVER regret it, but it is really tough sometimes. Every week theres the food bills, then theres worming and vet bills, training bills, birthday presents, just every day "i love you" presents... it all adds up, especially if you're thinking about something like a great dane!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying getting another dog is a BAD idea, but it can be very tough. Finding a place to rent with one dog is hard enough, but two is twice as hard. Have you ever thought of rescue work? Then you get to look after lots of different dogs and see them go from bad homes to good homes... stuff like that can also lead to jobs
11. LOL, she'd love that  Makes me think of the time at dog training when we had games and we had to race to a basket, put underwear on the dogs and run back and touch the fence, Lily and I won, but not before we were half way back and Lily realised she was wearing PINK UNDERWEAR!!! So she's running along, biting her bum with THE most embarressed look on her face, with a whole crowd of people just cracking up laughing at her. It was great! I'll keep the nappy thing in mind though, it might also help keep her bum warm in the cold winter months!
12. Yeah, Tessa's inside asleep on a pillow next to me at the moment. We havn't had one raised voice in this house for a week now, its so peacefull. Every night Lily will come in and watch TV in my bed with me.... no more having to sneak her in! Dad even lets her in when I'm not home :D I do have one question though, Tessa's incontinent so we're reluctant to let her in as she leaves wet patches on the carpet. At the moment she's in a ball on Puddles's pillow... does anyone have any ideas of something cheap I can make for her to sit on? Something thats easy to wash, soft and that wont drip through? It has to be a do it yourself job or something because I don't really have any spare money at the moment :-?
13. Yup, it sure is a releif!!!! No more worries about neighbours complaining, cars hitting her (although she is very road wary), her picking up diseases from other animals around the area or having to constantly worry about how much to feed her and her diet from her jumping the fence and eating cat food!!!
14. Great news everyone!!!! You know how I was always saying how Tess would jump the fence and so we had to keep her in the sunroom all day but even then we'd have to be careful because Lily would always let her out.... Well I always thought that one of the reasons Tessa jumped the fence is because she was scared because mums behavior was always so erratic etc. Anyways, mum moved out the other day, and guess what? Tessa will stay in the yard for A WHOLE DAY NOW!!!!! Before she'd jump the fence as soon as she got in the yard, now we can leave her there all day and go out the back at any time and she'll be right there waiting for us. Its great!!! :bday: :D
15. If I knew I wasn't going to get bored and that the rest of the world wouldn't end on me, then I might, possibly. But unless I knew that I'd have to say no, unless I was the only person who had the chance, cuz then it would just be cool to be the only person on earth who got to live forever.... all my friends dying around me every couple of decades would probably get a little depressing though
16. I think its time you found another vet :o When Lily had symtoms like them while I was living alone I'd had a shower and was out the door and at the vets within 20 minutes even though I was due at work. I was lucky, it was only a stomach bug and the vet gave her an injection and some paste to put on her food. My cousins dog who also had the same symptoms wasn't so lucky, it died, of parvo. Find a new vet and take your pup in. Fasting pups should be avoided and a vet that doesn't want to see a pup with such symptoms sounds a little dodgy to me
17. Excellent!!! You can never have too many best friends!!! :D I live in a town about half way between sydney and brisbane in NSW with a population of about 25, 000 people. Its a university town so most of the population is fairly young, which is good! Don't worry, there are no funnel webs where I live, you do get the occasional red back though :o

Boxers, and Maggie

I guess that depends on the particular dog you get. Choose a pup who's calm, when I got Lily there were only two left in her litter, she was the boisterous one who came running out to jump on everyone and chew on their shoes. Her brother on the other hand came out and sat quietly on the ground next to us, quite content to just snuggle up to us the whole time we were there... I was after a bitch, although they both had their qualitys I chose Lily (probably would have chosen Lily anyway because she was so beautiful  ) In general though, Boxers are very energetic, playful puppys, though I'm sure if Maggie had enough she would tell the pup and the pup would leave her alone, puppys soon learn what is inapropriate behavior around other dogs so I'm sure you'll have no problems. Any other questions about Boxers you have I'd be more than happy to answer!!! :D
19. Agh, Perthes Disease.... I've got that. As for how to reference, title, date, author, publisher, place of publication and also page number of the book if its only a few pages or whatever. I've got a link for you, its a university link but it'll probably answer all of your questions: http://www.une.edu.au/offsect/plagiarism_avoidance.htm good luck
20. Yeah I would have, only I forgot about it for the past 4 and a half years, then the other day it just came back to me! :thinkerg:
21. Yeah, this should work, its the link to Tessa's naughty storys - http://www.baddogs.com/bdc/searchback.cfm There's only 3, but I'm thinking that Lilys dying to get on the comp and enter some of her bad storys!!!! :drinking:
22. Hey, I just remembered this site I used to visit years ago, called the bad dog chronicles. Go to http://www.baddogs.com/index.cfm If you search for entrys written by Jeanne you'll see what Tessa used to get up to all those years ago
23. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Well, still couldn't get the dog, but you guys should check out the Karate Cats!!!! Funny stuff
24. Well snowpaws, mum moved out a few days ago and we are actually looking for a boarder now, so it could be something to think about  Thats the problem with getting a good job, nearly everyone has to start off with something they'd really prefer not to do and stick at it until they have enough experience to do what they want to do. But as I said before, good luck, you're still young and have plenty of time to work your way up to where you want to be 8)
25. Hello and welcome! :D Sounds like you've got the dreams but havn't had the chance to follow them.... well a few suggestions. Apply for jobs at maybe some dog groomers, or find out what you need to do to start your own dog training club. Help out at the local pound once a week, do some dog walking.... there's pretty much endless opportunitys for working with dogs, its just a matter of getting started, as they say, it's not what you know, its who you know. And about boarding, ever thought of australia? By the way, you've gotta be crazy... biology and chemistry are enough for me, but physics also!!!! :o No wonder it got too much for you!!!! Whatever you do, good luck cuz it sounds like you've got a good heart and deserve nothing but the best. :D
